Puppet on Windows 2003 Server > wrong IP via facter?
Hello! I''m just getting started working with Puppet and testing on a Windows 2003 server. When I run facter on this server it returns a wrong value for the ipaddress (should be 10.10.0.203, but facter sets ipaddress=10.0.0.203). As you can see from the following ipconfig output, facter is looking at the TELECOM Ethernet adapter instead of the adapter used for the local domain

facter --puppet does not report "environment"
Is it normal that "facter --puppet" does not show the environment variable? is there a way to have it include it? Facter ''operatingsystemrelease'' fact.
From looking at the Facter code, it looks like the ''operatingsystemrelease'' fact is currently a mirror of the ''kernelrelease'' fact. I''d like to implement this fact so that it returns the major version of the operating system, eg: Debian Sarge: operatingsystemrelease => 3.1 Debian Etch: operatingsystemrelease => 4.0 RHEL3 update 8:

Puppet Windows: Spaces in file paths a problem?
I thought I read somewhere in Puppet docs/wiki... that it is "recommended" to avoid spaces in file paths, or some similar verbiage, but now I cant find it. Does Puppet have any known issues with spaces in file paths? It would of course scare Windows admins away... So I hope I am wrong in thinking I read that. puppetlabs-firewall: source param as array
Hi, am trying this rule: firewall { ''100 allow ssh from GUNET'': proto => ''tcp'', dport => ''22'', source => [''10.0.0.0/8'',''192.168.0.0/16'',], action => accept, } and it only seems to add a rule for the first subnet. The second is silently

Deploy puppet via NFS?
In our environ, there are several services that are deployed via an NFS mount, so that the executables and configs are consistent across the board. Is there any reason why this couldn''t be done with Puppet? For example, each individual system would contain its own /etc/puppet and rc.d and pid files -- but the primary deployment would come from NFS. For that matter, as Enterprise

How do you ensure safety from errors/bugs in large deployments?
Hello all, This is not a puppet proper issue of course.. but I was wondering if any of you could share some thoughts... When you deploy a system like Puppet at a large park of systems, you instantly increase the efficacy of mistakes and bugs in destroying the environment.... How do you deal with that? I would be interested in any experience or input, especially puppet proper best practices...

ANNOUNCE: Facter 1.5
Hi all, I''ve finally gotten around to releasing Facter 1.5. As the version bump implies, this is a relatively significant release (for a 2.3k line program, anyway). Mostly, the biggest change is refactoring the code internally so that all of the functionality is split into separate classes in separate files. Also, the facts are all loaded on-demand, which provides dramatic

How do you distribute ruby-augeas for ruby-entreprise?

I was trying to deploy the needed gem using: /opt/ruby-enterprise/bin/gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri /tmp/ruby-augeas-0.3.0.gem But found out this would require gcc to be installed! Puppet Windows: msi packages removal
I noticed that is if I uninstall an MSI that was installed by Puppet, Puppet does not notice. Looking at the source I see it might be checking for a state file to know whether a package is installed or not: C:\ProgramData\PuppetLabs\puppet\var\db\package\msi\SplunkForwarder.yml So one has to rememebr to delete that too.... Is this design not a problem? Thanks, Mohamed. -- You received this

Tracing puppet processing for HP-UX user passwords
I have finally gotten Ruby 1.8.7 to compile properly with SSL libraries on HPUX so now I am fighting how to get puppet to manage passwords. First I modified the hpux.rb under the providers/user directory to have it use /usr/sam/lbin/useradd.sam to add users and that worked great right off the bat. The problem I am having now is that each time puppet runs it does not seem to be getting the

puppet push mode

What else needs to be set? Thanks, Jim -- “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines.
