Puppet Windows: msi packages removal
I noticed that is if I uninstall an MSI that was installed by Puppet,
Puppet does not notice.
Looking at the source I see it might be checking for a state file to
know whether a package is installed or not:
C:\ProgramData\PuppetLabs\puppet\var\db\package\msi\SplunkForwarder.yml
So one has to rememebr to delete that too.... Is this design not a problem?
Thanks,
Mohamed.

puppetlabs-firewall: source param as array
Hi,

Puppet 2.7.12 on Windows
Hi,
I posted an other problem with puppet and windows weeks ago.
With the new Version 2.7.12 those problems were fixed.
But now I don''t get puppet to work.
I installed puppet as explained here:
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/1/wiki/Puppet_Windows
It worked so far.
But when I start
puppet agent --test --waitforcert 10
I get the following error message:

Using regex to ensure package version
I''m trying to use something like this...
package { "blah": ensure => "1.2.3*" }
...and I know that doesn''t work because it looks for a package
literally with that value "1.2.3*". What I want is to say, install
the latest package in the 1.2.3 branch but don''t automatically upgrade
to anything later than that.
e.g. 1.2.3-01, 1.2.3-05

could not retrieve information from environment
Greetings. I am trying to set up a test puppet server in my
environment to evaluate windows clients. On the server side, I am
using puppet 2.7.14 (from the repos). I''m using the 2.7.14 windows 64
bit on the client (windows 2008 R2). I have another puppetmaster
already using "puppet" hostname in DNS (running a very old version of
puppet - can''t upgrade yet for various

Starting out with puppet and capistrano
Hey guys.
I am starting out with puppet and am in the process of writing a
bootstrap script for the clients and a capistrano recipe for the
server. I have the client bootstrap done which installs ruby, puppet,
sets a host name, and then points the client at the puppet server and
now I am in the process of setting up the puppet server.
My first attempt was to set up a git project for puppet, an

Errors when running 'puppet agent --test' command
Hello,
First of all I am new to the Puppet technology. I am trying to get my
puppet agent (windows) to reach my puppet master (Linux) server.
In this tutorial:
http://docs.puppetlabs.com/learning/agent_master_basic.html
It claims to test your puppet agent you need to use the ''puppet agent
--test'' command. My result when I tried this is:

Windows Puppet testing
Hi all,
I have a requirement and decided to test puppet on the win32 platform to see
if it would work for me.
I have facter running great ( gives all the system information / platform
etc etc ). Now the problem I see is if I use the github clone and try to
run anything I get
puppet/bin/puppet:3:in `require'': no such file to load --
puppet/util/command_line (LoadError) | and then

Inventory service and dashboard 1.1.0 rc1
I just set up the latest dashboard release candidate in hopes of
trying out the new inventory service. After modifying the puppet-

auth.conf I gave it a whirl but ran into some issues..
I initially tried using fact_terminus = yaml and was able to do some
queries via curl. I''m currently using storeconfigs so setting up

Puppet Agent on Windows - High CPU Usage
I recently noticed that the Windows host where I installed the Puppet agent
for testing was thrashing the CPU.
The culprit ended up being Ruby.exe *32 - "Ruby interpreter (CUI) 1.8.7.334
[i386-mingw32]". This is actually being launched by the puppet-agent
service in Windows. The CPU on the host was pegged around 50% all day
long. When I shut down the puppet-agent it went down to a

Puppet on Windows
Hi,
I want to run Puppet on a Windows 2003 Server. I already have a
working Puppetmaster (Scientific Linux).
I installed Puppet on Windows like shown here:
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/1/wiki/Puppet_Windows
This worked very well.
But when I want to run puppet.
puppet agent --test --debug
I get the following output: (I already tried different ruby and puppet

Possible bug? Can't remove and then put back a file?
This happens to Puppet 2.7.1 (both master and client). I have a file
resource that I set to ensure => absent, Puppet removed it correctly
with info line that it has a duplicate entry in the filebucket. I then
changed the ensure => present, the agent run gave me following error:
/usr/bin/puppet:19
err: /Stage[main]/Emb/File[/opt/jetty-distribution-7.4.2.v20110526.tar.gz]/ensure:

How to know the generated certname used by a puppet client, for reuse within erb (because of cloud provisioner) ?
Hi,
I am using the cloud provisioner to bootstrap some ec2 nodes, and these
clients are signed using a randomly generated certname, which is put in
/etc/puppet.conf at the bootstrap time (eg certname =
d7bcd693-73fd-495f-0876-ff91ea11111e).
But my puppet code repo also manages the puppet.conf file, so the file will
be overwritten on the client at the first puppet run. Nevertheless, i should

Puppet Masterless on Windows
Hi all,
I have been working on a configuration of a Masterless configuration on
Windows. I am able to get individual jobs to run like:
puppet apply <path to my puppet .pp file>
However, I would like to spin up the Vagrant box off a base VM, and have a
puppet manifest file in a location where puppet knows to look and provision
based off that file. The obvious place seems to be

Dependency Ordering Confusion
I have a module for windows nodes that is defined like:
class ast_win {
Class[''ast_win::env''] ~> Class[''ast_win::restart''] -> Class[''ast_win'']
ast_win::env contains a bunch of scripts that modify the environment on the
host machine. Mostly the PATH variable, but also other variables (e.g.
http_proxy) that are required for
