odd 'digital' sound artifacts
Hi, I've got some weird sound artifacts happening during calls, they're very hard to describe, so I have a 122kb recording: http://openprojects.rarcoa.com/~miztic/artifact.wav normally the artifacts are just short blips, not quite as long as the one above, but they sound the same. When using the aggressive echo suppressor, it seems like those artifacts cause a really loud buzzing sound to

chown and chgrp on 4.5 vs 5.0
I just noticed that on centso 4.5 I have an executable with the +s (chmod +s myexe) doing a chmod root myexe and chown root myexe does NOT affect the +s setting. However, on centos 5 this is not the case. chmod +s myexe chown root myexe or chgrp root myexe will DROP the +s status. How can I get around this? I want to keep the owner, group, world settings. Thanks, Jerry

Inquiry:External USB modem and Remote PC Access?
Dear All Please be informed that I checked for the presence of internal modem on my CentOS server , as the followings : #dmesg |grep -i modem #lspci |grep -i modem #lshw |grep -i modem According to the output , it seems that my CentOS client does not contain internal modem . So I decided to add external USB modem and make use of an PCAnyWhere like application that enables for Remote PC Access .

USB modem on centos
I am playing with a USR (us robotics) USB modem model 5637. in the past I used internal modems and had no issues. One this unit I plugged it in, dmesg says its recogized. I did "ln -s /dev/ttyACM0 /dev/ttyS4" this works. I then did "cu -l /dev/ttyS4" type "AT" and I get OK... looking good. When I "ATDT my number" I get a connection at 1200 baud (which I

Running USB DSL Modem
Is it possible to use Wine to run USB DSL modems with Win9x only drivers? I had a choice of a free PCI or USB modem and heard I had a better shot with the USB. There are no Linux drivers, at least for now. Tom

Adding an MT9234ZBA-USB modem to CentOS6.3
How, exactly, does CentOS-6.3 with udev recognize an USB modem when it is plugged in. How is it indicated? What other configuration is required? I can find the modem in /sys/class/tty and I can get the attributes using udevadm but I do not see anything in ps that refers to the modem device. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. Hi all, When putting multiple centos 5.1 boxes on a network (DHCP for network) and 1 centos 5.1 server is there a way that these clients can automatically "seek" the server. Is there something in centso 5.1 that an inquiry can be sent out that says: Is there a "Product XYZ" on this network? And the server - and not all the clients - can respond to this quiry. Just

Problem connecting a USB modem.
Hi I'm trying to connect a USB CDMA modem (z010) to a CentOS 4.1 (kernel 2.6.9-11.EL) and I can't talk to the modem. I tried the same modem under Fedora Core 1 (2.4.22-1.2199.nptl) and it works like a charm. The only difference is /dev/ttyACM0 for CentOS and /dev/input/ttyACM0 for the Fedora. Any help would be appreciated. Tank's. Fernando Lan?a Some debug info: CentOS:

Frustrated with echo...
I've been using my Asterisk (At my house - 2 modem-type fxos, and an assortment of SIP endpoints for phones) for about 5 weeks now, and I've been really happy with it, but I'm still having an echo problem that I've exhausted google with, and can't get straight... I think I've determined that because I'm using $7 voice modem clones for my FXOs that bad echo is going to
