Speaking of 3Ware/RAID/SATA/9550SX...
I just built up a server running CentOS 4.3, and trying to boot from a 3Ware 9550SX-16ML, 16 port card. This system has 9x500GB drives, AMD Opteron, Tyan K8SD mobo and 1 GB of ram. I downloaded the latest (9.3.0.4) driver from 3Ware, and after a couple of botched attempts, I got CentOS installed. In my two botched attempts, the problem was X hanging during the formatting of the drives, so I

development machine with xen on gentoo
Hi all. We just put a relative large server in operation (for our measures ;-) ), a 4x Dual Core / Intel with 16GB Ram and a 3ware 9550SX SATA-RAID with 4 drives. Operating system for the Dom0 is an up-to-date gentoo linux. Everything runs really fine, there are 4 Domu''s running, 1x gentoo and 2x debian and 1x Windows Server 2003. DomU''s are running blazing fast in normal

Hi, Is it possible to create one raid volume of 3.3 TB (9550SX-8lp X WD5000YS - 8nos) and create a file system with ext3? Write performance with 3ware 9550
I have two identical servers. The only difference is that the first one has Maxtor 250G drives and the second one has Seagate 320G drives. OS: CentOS-4.4 (fully patched) CPU: dual Opteron 280 Memory: 16GB Raid card: 3ware 9550Sx-8LP Raid volume: 4-disk Raid 5 with NCQ and Write Cache enabled On the first server I have decent performance. Nothing spectacular, but good enough. The second one

Virtualising legacy CentOS 4.x servers
Dear all, I look after a number of CentOS 4.x servers running legacy applications that depend on ancient versions of various things (such as MySQL 3.x) and which can't be upgraded without non-trivial development effort. I've been considering virtualising them and as a test have been trialling with a company that uses Parallels Cloud Server 6. However, I've run into a roadblock

page cache keeps growing untill system runs out of memory on a MIPS platform
Hi, I have samba-3.0.28a crosscompiled and running on a MIPS platform. The development system has about 150MB of free RAM after system bootup and no swap space. The system also has an USB interface, to which an external USB hard disk is connected. When I try to transfer huge files above (100MB) from a client on to the USB hard disk, I find that the page cache eats up almost about 100MB and

Help needed with NFS issue
I have four NFS servers running on Dell hardware (PE2900) under CentOS 5.7, x86_64. The number of NFS clients is about 170. A few days ago, one of the four, with no apparent changes, stopped responding to NFS requests for two minutes every half an hour (approx). Let's call this "the hang". It has been doing this for four days now. There are no log messages of any kind pertaining

Inquiry:How to compare two files but not in line-by-line basis?
Dear All Can you please do me favor and let me know how can I compare two files but not in line-by-line basis on my CentOS server ? I mean say row#1 in file1 has the same data as say row#5 in file2 , but the comm compares them in line-by-line basis that is not intended . It seems that the diff cannot do the job as well . Thank you in advance -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

Samba 3: bad read performance
??Hi all! We use Samba 3 server for some video stuff (editing, rendering, and so on) -- that's why performance is critical. We've tried a lot smb.conf options, but Samba can't satisfy our requirements. Our server configuration is as following: * Hard drive: RAID5 (8 x Seagate 7200.10), 3ware 9550SX-8LP controller * NICs (trunked): 2 x Broadcom NetXtreme BCM5704 * Processor: Opteron

reboot - is there a timeout on filesystem flush?
I've had a few systems with a lot of RAM and very busy filesystems come up with filesystem errors that took a manual 'fsck -y' after what should have been a clean reboot. This is particularly annoying on remote systems where I have to talk someone else through the recovery. Is there some time limit on the cache write with a 'reboot' (no options) command or is ext4 that

upgrade to kernel 2.6.9.42.02
Dear all, I have upgraded the kernel and it took my 3w-9550sx-8LP sata raid card out of the box. It also fixed the problem of getting obsolete channel (my posting last week). Thanks for all your help and your support. Thanks Rajeev -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

3ware 9550SX - Xen-3.0.0
Guys, I''m about to set up Xen on a dual Opteron server backed with SATA storage which is driven by a 3ware 9550SX controller. The problem is that as linux-2.6.12.6 has no support for this type of card by default, so I need to download & compile the driver the vendor provides. I did so (for the kernel 2.6.12.6-xen0) and generated an initrd image which gets loaded properly at bootime,

3ware 9550sx on CentOS 4.3 x64
3ware now provides driver disk for CentOS. A couple of months ago, I had to add support for the 3ware 9550sx. The driver disk provided for CentOS 4.1 work perfectly. I now need to add support for the 3ware 9550sx for CentOS 4.3 x64. Although the driver disk is available, it doesn't seem to work. Anaconda just can't find the 3w-9xxx module. This is the same seutp as CentOS 4.1 (which

3ware 9550SX and CentOS
I'm getting a couple of systems that are arriving with the new 3ware 9550sx controller. Does anyone know when this will be natively supported by CentOS? Has anyone built an RPM of the driver/module for this new controller?

More info on 3Ware 9550SX from the field (in case anyone else is interested)
From a buddy of mine that has spent a little time with the new cards. This was in response to my email asking about his impressions of them: It just came out in mid-September. There are a couple reasons I'm not thrilled with it: 1) no 8-port multilane version (only 12) 2) the 8-port non-multilane version is a kludge, connector-wise (a row of 3 double-stacked connectors along the

3Ware 9550SX-4LP Performance
I know there are a few 3Ware fans here and I was hoping to find some help. I just built a new server using a 3Ware 9550SX-4LP with four disks in raid 5. The array is fully initialized but I'm not getting the write performance I was hoping for -- only 40 to 45MB/Sec. 3Ware's site advertises 300MB/Sec writes using 8 disks on the PCI Express version of this card (the 9580 I think.)

writing/appending a text file
Hello I'm fairly new to R. I have a script which produces a 1-column vector (numeric). I can write it to a text file using the write command. What I want to do is to run the script a number of times on different input files, producing a different 1-column vector each time and save all the vectors to a text file so that each vector is one separate column in the text file. I had thought of
