trouble w/ Foreman as ENC, agents and environments
Hi, I have a Puppet Enterprise (2.0) puppetmaster running with Foreman, and having trouble getting it working as an External Node Classifier. In short, if I manually add a test client into site.pp, it will retrieve the proper catalog / classes, but I would like to avoid having to do that. I''m also using environments (production/testing/ development) as well, but think I have most of

Foreman / External Nodes -- Node Not found
Hello All, So I finally got around to start to cut over node definitions from standard flat files to external nodes (foreman), and getting error message: "Error 400 on SERVER: Could not find node ''nodename''; cannot compile" - So basically it can''t pick up the node from the external node config. When I test the fetching of the yaml file it seems to work

puppet-foreman
Hi, I created a centOS6 EC2 instance last night and ran the foreman puppet module but it came back with a few years. Was hoping somebody could help me understand these errors. Right now I have 4 defined environments: production, cat, development, beta They are defined as follows on my puppetmaster: cat /etc/puppet/puppet.conf [main] pluginsync = true vardir = /var/lib/puppet manifest = /etc/puppet/environments/production/site.pp modulepath = /etc/puppet/environments/production/modules [master] reports =

Unable to import a manifest file from a different directory to the one where site.pp is located using environments
Hi List, Puppet Version: v2.7.13 Question - If I correctly setup multiple manifestdir''s in the puppet.conf file how can I import a node pp file located in a different directory tree to site.pp? My configuration information is below. In my puppet.conf file I have setup an environment called "stable", within this environment I have setup the manifestdir, modulepath and

Foreman and default configs for all nodes
I''m having some issues applying a default set of modules to all of my nodes managed by Foreman. I have around 20 nodes split among 4 environments. I have a node {default...} stanza in site.pp, but due to the way puppet handles ENCs, nothing from this is applied to my nodes. I have looked at host groups in Foreman, but they don''t seem to do what I want, since they are applied

Trouble with ENC and static.pp : enabling ENC fails to find node even with default node in site.pp
I''m having some trouble with getting an ENC to work alongside site.pp: Even with a ''default'' node definition, and an ENC that only returns 0, regardless of input, consistently results in a ''cannot find node'' error. I''m wondering what I''ve missed here. I''ve tried to reduce everything to a ''base case'': and

Multiple environments
So I''m trying to get multiple environments to work with puppet 0.25.1 on ubuntu 8.04 and no matter what I do, puppet just completely ignores any environment setting. There''s really next to no information in terms of configuration on the multiple environments documentation page (http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/UsingMultipleEnvironments) other than saying that the

Class parameter flexibility with ENC, hiera or both
Dear puppetteers, I am having a philosophical question about parametrized classes. When building modules, one wants to be as flexible as possible, to try to target as many puppet flavors as possible. This is our target: - Foreman users, using foreman as an ENC with smart variables (or potentially any other ENC, but I would say this is the most widespread one). - Pure Puppet''s site.pp

Foreman and Puppet managing templates question
Hi, I have just started to use Foreman 1.1. I have been using Puppet for a while and have some custom modules and ones that have been dragged down from git etc. I am using nodes.pp in Puppet to assign classes and template entries to hosts. So is Foreman meant to eliminate my need for a nodes.pp? How do I manage my erb templates in Puppet without a nodes.pp? Thanks, -- You received

preferred directory structure for multiple environments
Hello All, Moving from 2.5 to 2.6.2 and I was wondering if there is a preferred directory structure for using multiple environments? Does it work much different in 2.6 than in 2.5? When I made the move I assumed (I know) that my current structure and configurations would just roll over but that isn''t the case. Thanks, Jim -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the

Catalog compile times > 40s - Puppet 2.7.18
I am finding that the puppetlabs-apache module is somehow adding 30-60 seconds onto a host''s catalog compile time when the puppetmaster has no other hosts contacting or generating catalogs. The Puppetmaster is setup to use Puppet-2.7.18 - Apache & Passenger. RIght now only 2 hosts are even configured to use this new PM, the PM itself and a Foreman host. With neither hosts

rspec-puppet and puppet doc conflicts
I recently started trying to use rspec-puppet and puppetlabs-rspec-helper. When I ran ''rspec-puppet-init'' in one o fmy modules, it created a series of symlinks. Now, when I run puppet doc (via a rake task supplied by The Foreman, but also when I call it directly) I get the following error: Could not generate documentation: Definition ''mongodb::addmongouser''

Running ENC alongside site.pp (node defn)
Hello, Is it possible to configure an ENC to provide class definition to a number of nodes at the same time where a few other nodes are controlled in the site.pp by node ''FQDN'' {blah} for the same puppetmaster ? I am wondering once parameters are set for the master to look for an ENC based definitions, will it conflict with the site.pp node definitions ? For example these

Run Puppet Against Master with Local node.pp Manifest?
Does anyone know if it''s possible to run Puppet as if it''s running with a Master, but using a locally created node.pp manifest? I''m looking into doing some unit tests on applications that are installed by Puppet. To do this, I''m trying to use a test VM server which I''ll deploy applications onto. I figure that the easiest way is probably to

Weird "cannot reassign variable name on node" error when I try to use standalone
Hi -- I''m trying call apply in standalone mode on a configuration I''ve written. The way I call the command is like this: $ puppet apply manifests/site.pp -v --modulepath modules The directory structure is simple: . manifests/site.pp manifests/nodes.pp modules/ ... site.pp just includes nodes.pp, and nodes.pp looks like this: https://gist.github.com/3181007 When I
