Multiple environments
So I''m trying to get multiple environments to work with puppet 0.25.1
on ubuntu 8.04 and no matter what I do, puppet just completely ignores
any environment setting. There''s really next to no information in
terms of configuration on the multiple environments documentation page
(http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/UsingMultipleEnvironments)

multiple puppetmasters (w/ Passenger) behind load balancer
Hello Gang,
I''m working on scaling my puppet solution, and I''m deploying multiple
masters w/ passenger that are going sit behind a load balancer. If anyone
is using these type of setup, would you share how you deal with the SSL

and it''s not working to good for me.

Schedule puppet runs
Hi All,
I would like to pick your brains as to the best way to configure the
below senario within puppet.
I am currently configuring puppet for our environment and have
seperated development/back office from production through configuring
roles for each server to identify them as such.
What i need to be able todo is have the production servers only update
outside of office hours, but have the

Puppetmaster be client of another puppetmaster?
Is is possible to have a puppetmaster that is a client of a different
puppetmaster? We manage our customers'' server via puppet, but one customer
has a puppetmaster server which looks after their internal systems. We''ve
tried the following in /etc/puppet/puppet.conf ("customer" and "us"
replacing the domain names) on their puppetmaster:

Problem adding facts ...
I have created my first ''fact'', first attempt at Ruby too, and
configured the fileserver to server it but when a Fedora (5 or 6)
client sync''s puppetd appears to hang. CentOS clients sync and use the
new fact fine.
Find attached the fact file and the output from ''puppetd --debug
--factsync'' on a FC5 client is below. This is a 0.20.1 client and

Workstations and Certs
I am trying to come up with a workable solution in managing numerous
Mac workstations allowing a high degree of flexibility with regards to
certs.
My puppet environment is setup to application installation on machines
that have been ''imaged'' with a base OS and the puppet and facter apps.
So, when a Mac is ''imaged'' and subsequently re-booted, puppet is run

Certificate validation failing
I am trying to use puppet to configure Amazon EC2 instances. The
server is my own box at home. Both server and clients are Ubuntu 8.04
running puppet 0.24.5.
On the client when I run:
puppetd --server myserver.com --waitforcert 60 --test
I get a cert to sign on the server. I sign it and run the command
above again on the client. But then I get 3 errors similar to this:

"Could not find server puppet" - installation/configuration error
Started the discussion in puppet users mailing list based on
recommendation from luke. This discussion is to a follow up regarding
bug#1955 "Could not find server puppet" - installation/configuration

jamtur01''s last recommendation:
Rather than renaming things try the certname option (see

bringing puppet into production
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on getting puppet set up for our systems for the
past week, and all has gone well in learning about writing manifests,
but now that I’m ready to set it into production, I realize that it’s
still unclear to me exactly how that’s supposed to go.
For instance, during testing it has always been that I manually
started and stopped puppetd and puppetmasterd on their

problem with puppetmasterd log
Hello,
puppetmasterd is running as shown here:
puppet 10209 1.1 1.5 138124 62532 ? Ssl 13:37 0:06
/usr/bin/ruby /usr/sbin/puppetmasterd
--manifest=/etc/puppet.production/manifests/site.pp
--logdest=/var/log/puppet.production/puppetmasterd.log
however, the log file is not being updated with information when a
client runs puppetd --test
Am I missing something obvious?

alternate hostnames, keys, and certs
I''d like to extend my use of puppet to manage my desktop/notebook macs.
As others have noted, the hostname of the mobile machines tends to change frequently, so basing the node name (in my site.pp) and the corresponding cert and private key names seems to be an issue.
I seem to recall somewhat talking about this at Puppet Camp last week…..
Generally my signing strategy is always to

First boot with Puppet
Hi guys,
I''m installing Puppet on RHEL5 systems using KickStart but struggle with
the first boot.
Here''s my situation:
1) kickstart installs the system, including puppet from our local repo
2) after reboot I have to login and set the hostname and IP
3) then run puppet, register it with the server and bring in the config
4) configure puppet for automatic start

Puppet-Dashboard nodes showing up as unreported
Hello,
I have followed the documentation at
http://docs.puppetlabs.com/dashboard/manual/1.2/bootstrapping.html to try
to setup dashboard but after I manually add a node it shows up as
unreported. The agent has successfully completed a very basic catalog run
just adding a file to the file-system.

Problem syncing custom fact
I am trying to get a custom fact to sync. The fact is in a module. It
will sync if I run puppet with "--pluginsync" but not otherwise. I
have "pluginsync=true" in my puppet.conf. Shouldn''t the command line
option and puppet.conf option have the same results?

EC2 with puppet bootstrap notes and scripts
Hello...
I wanted to be able to startup an EC2 instance with one command and
have a fully functioning server without having to shell into each new
instance and configure the bits to allow puppet to finish the
configuration. Here are some notes I came up with for bootstrapping an
ec2 instance with puppet using Ubuntu 10.04. I left out a lot of things
about creating and running custom AIM

About autosigning and the FAQ entry
Hello!
The FAQ contains an entry about autosigning:
http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#why-shouldn-t-i-use-autosign-for-all-my-clients
It says:
> The certificate itself is stored, so two nodes could not connect with
the same CN
I tried this (using 0.25.4), and actually, that doesn''t seem to be
correct. I was able to run puppetd on two different
