FTP specific port forwarding
Hi
I've been looking at a both openssh and couple of commercial SSH
implementations(F-Secure and ssh comm.).
The one thing I see as missing is the "nice-to-have" feature of FTP
specific port forwarding.
The commercial implementations allows a syntax of "-L
ftp/<someport>:..." which does some "automagical" forwarding of the
data channel "under the

Missing bugfixes in redhat4.1
After installing redhat4.1 I found that a few serious bug fixes
announced in Jan 97 was not included in the distribution.
First of them -- a SERIOUS SECURITY BUG in wu-ftpd allowing
any user gain a root acces to files. Patch was posted in redhat-announce
list and included in wu-ftpd-2.4.2b11-9.
Second: a bug in wu-ftpd -- ftpd doesn''t perform any log for real user

Warning regarding new kernel RPMs
The instructions in RHSA-2000:037-01 (2.2.16 kernel update) tell you:

For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filename]
where filename is the name of the RPM.
These instructions are incomplete and may result in a system that

After updating the RPM files, you should also:

sftp / scp extension
We have a need to allow for encrypted file transfers around the
internet, but do not wish to expose our systems completely.
What
we would like to see is either an extension to the scp / sftp code to use an
sftp_config or scp_config type file that places restrictions on
directory movement, upload locations, download locations,
etc...
Essentially run the sftp-server or scp code within a

which ftpd for public ftp server?
Greetings all,
I'm needing to set up a new ftp server which will primarily be a public
server (i.e. "anonymous" logins). I'll also need to set up some "group"
logins for controlled "incoming" access (doesn't _have_ to be on the same
sever).
Aside: I can't see a (mini-)HOWTO on public ftp server setup - is there
really not one?

Tiny Typo in R Data Import/Export Manual
Dear all,
in the first paragraph in Section 4.3.2 of the "R Data Import/Export
Manual", it is written 'We havew tested...'. Most likely it should be
'We have tested...'
It is just such a minor thing that I was unsure whether to submit a bug
report.
I use now R 2.2.1 on Win32 but I guess this is independent of the
platform and version.
Best,
Roland
P.S. Thanks for

make check-recommended hanging on up-to-date Rdevel from SVN
Hi all,
I'm getting an issue with Rdevel where make check-recommended hangs
consistently for me on Mac El Capitan when checking the Matrix package. I
did svn update and tools/rsync_recommended earlier today and it didn't fix
the issue.
Specifically, it is hanging on the

stage (while checking Matrix, it passes fine for MASS and lattice).

profiles. When a user logs out the profile isn't written because it says
that "The specified network name is no longer available" Whatever that
is supposed to mean. Following is my smb.conf. Please CC me in replies

Awesome. Gabe, since you already have a workshopped version, would you like
to proceed? Feel free to ping me to review the patch once it's posted.

setgid binaries
Hi,
I''ve been thinking about group membership and the corresponding (weak)
restrictions to system resources. Consider the following:
% cat > gsh.c
main()
{
system("/bin/sh");
}
% cc -o gsh gsh.c
% id
uid=100(joe) gid=500(users) groups=14(floppy),15(sound)
% chgrp sound gsh
% chmod g+s gsh
% mail abuser
