A VPN is switched mode
Hi all,
I have been using tinc successfully for a while now.
However, I need to do something different from my normal setup, and i am
getting the feeling I am doing something obvious wrong.
What I want to do is hookup 5 distant linux routers into one bigger
network, Since I need to transmit both unicast and multicast traffic,
the VPN network has to be in "Mode = switch" [Assumption

Serious BIND resolver problems.
[Mod: I am approving this message even though it is just a rehash of known
vulnerabilities of DNS. Please in future lets avoid rehashing what was
alreadt discussed in probably every single mailing list that deals with UNIX
security several years ago? -- alex ]

About DNS again
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I have got a couple of messages stating that I am wrong and that the
resolver vulnerability sent to list by Oliver Friedrichs (oliver@secnet.com)
is a new one. Our discussion with Oliver outlined that even though it is
possible that this vulnerability was discussed during BOFs at conferences
such as LISA, SANS and NETSEC,

New package: hbim - Hill/Bliss Independence Model for Multicomponent Vaccines
Hi all,
I have just uploaded the hbim package. This package does calculations related to the Hill/Bliss independence model as applied to mulitcomponent vaccines. Specifically, the package caculates expected relative risk and proportion protected assuming normally distributed log10 transformed antibody dose for a several component vaccine. It uses Hill models for each component which are combined

bliss version 0.4.0
[mod: Forwarded by Jeff Uphoff. I tried to mangle the headers that
it appears as the original post: with an invalid return address. -- REW]
A few months back, a very alpha version of bliss got posted. That shouldn''t
have happened, but, it was pretty much ignored so I didn''t worry about it.
But now it seems there''s a bit of a fuss about this. I''ll post the

Ignorant lack of bliss : summarise table by column attribute
Having read the list posting guidelines I fear my first post is about to
break the rules. Apologies in advance.
We have been asked to produce some graphs of relative performance of 3
groups of people in relation to the trend of their previous performance.
I am neither a mathematician or a statistician, but wondered if R (which
I have been using as a desktop calculator!) and some knowledge from

RCurl and postForm()
Hi everybody,
I think that I am missing something fundamental in how strings are passed from a postForm() call in R to the curl or libcurl functions underneath. For example, I can do the following using curl from the command line:
$ curl -d "Archbishop Huxley" "http://www.datasciencetoolkit.org/text2people"

Unable to add machine accounts
I have the exact same problem as this guy:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-September/125699.html
He describes it much better and in much more detail than I could, so
I'll let him speak for me.
Unfortunately, I don't have the same solution. nss_ldap is configured
properly, and things like 'getent passwd' and 'id machine-acct$' show
the machine accounts as

fully qualified usernames ??
Hi there
Just a couple of questions to help me understand.
When I upgrade from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23c the access restrictions on my
shares on the member server no longer work. I read in the Changes file
"Since Samba 3.0.8, it has been recommended that all domain accounts
listed in smb.conf on a member server be fully qualified with the...."
So far so good I know what I have to do still I
