fstype=auto breaks updatedb
It turns out that if you specify filesystem type `auto' in
/etc/fstab, updatedb (the thing which updates your `locate'
database) ceases to work.
Here's the contents of my /etc/updatedb.conf:
PRUNEFS="devpts NFS nfs afs proc smbfs autofs auto iso9660"
PRUNEPATHS="/tmp /usr/tmp /var/tmp /afs /net"
export PRUNEFS
export PRUNEPATHS
deleting the `auto' entry

GlusterFS slowness due to updatedb cron job
We have seen at a number of deployments, users experiencing slowness of
GlusterFS over a period of time (as the volume usage grows). Some times it
happens once in a day. This is due to updatedb cron job script that wakes up
once in a day to index all the files it can find. It is configured by default
to ignore network file systems such as NFS and lustre. Please add fuse.glusterfs
to the list.

mlocate/updatedb and btrfs subvolume mounts
I've just noticed that I'm having issues with finding files using
"locate" when those files are on btrfs subvolume mounts.
The issue is that updatedb cannot discern the difference between a
btrfs bind mount and btrfs subvolume [1]. This generally means that if
you're using btrfs subvolume mounts and updatedb at the same time, and
you want to index those subvolumes,

updatedb taking too long
Hi list
For some reason mlocate is taking a long time when I run the updatedb
command. Have a look!
[root at beta:~] #time updatedb
real 19m48.729s
user 0m0.400s
sys 0m2.728s
It's not a big volume by any means
[root at beta:~] #df -h

So I'm wondering what could be causing

Just to follow this up, the mlocate database update started working automatically

mlocate-updatedb.timer not working?
I set this computer up with Centos 8 a few days ago.
"systemctl status mlocate-updatedb.timer" says "Active (waiting)".
But the mlocate database hasn't been updated since the last time I ran updatedb manually.
# ls -l /var/lib/mlocate/*
-rw-r-----. 1 root slocate 22944208 Feb 29 10:30 /var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db
What have I missed?

* as pri_net?
If you have used * to support a pri as pri_net (as opposed to pri_cpe),
either to talk to another * system or a PBX of some sort, I would be very
interested in hearing about your experiences. Imparticular, I would like
to know that it works before I invest in the extra hardware.

Feature request: Samba4 acts as multi domain master browsers or multi local master browsers for multi groups !
Can somebody takes part in adding the following functionality to Samba4:
It is necassary to do Samba4 computer as multi DMB or I think more likely
as multi LMB for multigroups additionally to default main domain / group.
That is necasary to add to Samba4 such functionality in Samba4 code and add
to smb.conf at least 3 parameters:
- multi browser support = yes/no - switch on / off this feature

Compiling asterisk-addons-1.6.0 under Debian 2.6.18?
Is there some magic to compiling asterisk-addons-1.6.0 under Debian 2.6.18
and mysql 5.0? I am unable to get configure to recognize the existance of
mysqlclient. Imparticular, when it gets to:
checking for mysql_init in -lmysqlclient... it returns "no".
For the past several releases, I've had to hack or otherwise coerce this
to work, but this time, no amount of fiddling with

Comprehensive re-write of the classicupgrade HowTo and other changes
Hello,
I'm talking about re-writing the classicupgrade HowTo since over a year
now. :-) Now, after three rainy vacation days, it's finaly done:
A complete and comprehensive re-write of the classicupgrade HowTo:

Some other mentionable documentation changes, I had
done during the last week:

get /full/path/filename.ext from filename.ext
I don't know if this is of interest as an alternative.
I did find a cool functionality called locate and updatedb
Updatedb creates the database of your files, locate does superfast searches.
It essentially does a superfast "find" on your root filesystem, giving
you the fully qualified path of all hits.
You can create db's on your other filessytems.
The problem is that it can

killing "uninterruptible sleep" process
Hi
I logged in to one of my servers today and noticed that the load average is
very high. After investigating the problem I found two processes in "D" stat
("uninterruptible sleep"):

/usr/bin/updatedb -f NFS,SMBFS,NCPFS,PROC,DEVPTS -e

Strange occurrence
You mentioned that your systems are running Fedora Core.
At 4:00 every morning cron runs the updatedb script to
update the locate database. That script looks for files on
all local files systems on the machine. When it does this
it causes starvation of memory so the kswap process activates,
while that process is looking for candidates to move to swap
space your regular user processes will

Ransomware?
There is malware that names the files .crypt
A novel solution here
https://isc.sans.edu/diary/Novel+method+for+slowing+down+Locky+on+Samba+server+using+fail2ban/20805
though it seems locky specific
I use this non-samba solution in cron.hourly. Pretty awful, but it works for malware that I know
about. I have fast drives, so updatedb only takes a few seconds.

Updating a Data Frame
Hi,
I have a global data-frame in my R script.
At some point in my script, I want to update certain columns of this
data-frame by calling in an update function.
The function looks like this:
# get events data. This populates a global event data frame in the R-script
events <- getEvents(con, eventsFilePath)
# events has columns eventid, timeStamp, isSynchronized, timeDiff; with
