Printing from W2K clients
Hi,
I have Slackware 8 Linux Box with Samba-2.2.5 and HP LJ 1200 printer shared by
samba (with LPRng).
The problemm is: when printing from W2K clients users cannot change
print options (like portrait/landscape page orientation, number of
copies etc). When printing from Win98 clients all is ok.
Could someone help vt with this problemm?

/etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem erased by OpenSuse's update mechanism
Hi,
this is not a genuine Dovecot bug, more a nuisance.
It applies to OpenSuse 13.2 but maybe also to other Linux's.
The standard installation of Dovecot (especially 10-ssl.conf) places the
certificate dovecot.pem in /etc/ssl/certs.
Sometimes during updates does OpenSuse renew all certificates in /etc/ssl/certs
and erases dovecot.pem. This blocks further access to the mailbox.

I am using CentOS 5.3 and after installing the OS i scrolled to the
/etc/yum.repos.d directory and i could not find any repositories being

then when i try to install the net-snmp package that i require to

/etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem erased by OpenSuse's update mechanism
This directory in later times is where more and more distros are
putting system wide server CA type certs, most distros are moving to
this path, so the package maintainer should fix their script, maybe to
/etc/ssl/private or such.

ocfs issues with 9.2.0.3
I am starting to see a few issues with OCFS and 9.2.0.3 RAC on
redHat Linux AS 2.1. Wondering if there is anyone out there
experiencing similar issues...
a few pointers to the issues..
1. OCFS read/write performance is way lower than a read/write to a raw
device.. i can give you some comparison numbers..
2. Writes to shared disk with ocfs would get locked up by one server..

/etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem erased by OpenSuse's update mechanism
Why not /etc/dovecot/private? That's where I put my dovecot certs. Dovecot's needs are a bit different from other software, and so it is unclear whether the files won't be unique to it. For example, I haven't seen the following before I read it on the Dovecot wiki:
"The CA file should contain the certificate(s) followed by the matching CRL(s). Note that the CRLs are required

Programming ....
Hi,
I am building my own TCP daemon for easing some routine admin stuff... I am
no expert on security,. I would really appreciate it if someone sent me some
pointers to writing TCP daemons that are hacker-proof( i know there is
nothing like that...but I do not want to be making mistakes in coding that
are well known.. ;)
The daemon runs as root....so that is why I am woried....
Thx,
Arni

hardware sizing and configuration
Understanding that a samba 4.x ADDC should be run on a an os separate
than a samba 4. file server, I was thinking of virtualizing both. Is it
common to have a single physcial server with two VM's running samba?
If some is there a recommendation on how much hardware to start with and
how much virtual hardware to give each VM. I'm wondering about virtual
nics and if there may be a

Auto-restart/auto-shutdown feature idea
Here are some thoughts about a possible enhancement to samba. Let me
know what yuou think.
Whenever I want to re-start samba, for example to upgrade it, there
always seem to be people logged in with files open. It occured to me
therefore that an auto-restart feature may be useful.
To implement this though we need to know when it is safe to re-start
samba:
1. When there are no locked

Yum update erased jdk, jre, and fuse-davfs2
I just did a yum update. It pulled in a number of updates including the
latest firefox and davfs2.i386.
Then I watch the following show up during the cleanup phase of yum
(/var/log/messages):
Mar 28 15:42:18 nc2400 Erased: jdk
Mar 28 15:42:25 nc2400 Erased: jre
Mar 28 15:42:31 nc2400 Erased: fuse-davfs2
Are the first jsut removal of the alternatives? How do I tell and how

session info is getting erased
i finally got web services to work between two apps that i am currently
working on. the application that serves the API stores the user id in a
session when the user logs in. but when i use the client application and
then go back to the server app, my session is erased and i have a
message something like "Couldn''t find User without an ID "
any ideas why this is happening?

WARNING: rsync mirror is erased when remote HD-dies
Hello,
I faced a problem with rsync-ing like this

rsync decided to remove the mirrored directories from green (the

This process resulted in a partial
