Hi, <new_listmember_intro> Name: Melvyn Sopacua Occupation: WebMaster Age: 32 Location: Netherlands </new_listmember_intro> after quite some digging, the user experience mentioned in brackets above, turned out to be ipv6 resolving problems. They only occur with certain hosts, one of them being the adserver company my employer uses, 'DoubleClick'. What is frustrating about

Samba4 internal DNS - can't resolve extrenal hosts
Hello List, I am facing a probelm whereby my Samba4 internal DNS does not resolve external addresses: # host www.google.com Host www.google.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) The answer is immediate - so there's no timeout issue here. Internal resolution as described in the wiki to test the Samba AD DNS functions like host -t SRV _kerberos._udp.samba.mydomain.com host -t SRV

how do I find out which nameserver returns a DNS query?
Hi all If I do a "dig mydomain.co.za" from a Linux server, how do I know which DNS nameserver returns the queries? I seem to have a faulty DNS server, but can't see which one, so I want to find out which nameserver (if there's 4 - ns1.myserver, ns2.myserver, ns3.myserver & ns4.myserver) returns the queries? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers CEO, SoftDux Web:

IXFR regression in nsd 3.2.9?
We upgraded to NSD 3.2.9 (from 3.2.8) because we encountered the problem "Fix denial of existence response for empty non-terminal that looks like a NSEC3-only domain (but has data below it)." (a nasty problem with DNSSEC). But we now have IXFR issues. On one name server, NSD 3.2.9 works fine, zones are IXFRed and work. On another name server, with much more zones (and big ones), we

how to increase DNS reliability?
This brings up one of the caveats for (at least ISC) DNS, if the master goes down the slaves will take over for a time but eventually will stop serving for the domains of the master if it remains down too long. If my (sometimes faulty) memory serves me well it is in the three day range (but configurable) which is ample time unless the problem occurs early in a holiday weekend and and the

voip-info.org DNS seems broken
For the last few days I can not resolve voip-info.org from many DNS servers. It does resolve with some DNS servers but I suspect it may be related more to caching. Using the host command: host -a voip-info.org 130.179.16.23 Trying "voip-info.org" Using domain server: Name: 130.179.16.23 Address: 130.179.16.23#53 Aliases: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR,

Adding a new DC to an existing Windows domain.
My network is set up with bind 9 servers (all Linux) that are separate from my AD servers, ns-master, ns1, and ns2, with ns-master being the target of the SOA record for the zones. ns1 and ns2 are joined to my AD domain running Samba, ns-master is standalone. I have 2 existing DCs one running Windows 2k3R2 and the other running Windoes 2k8R2. I'm looking to add a Samba DC to the domain, and
