Manifest organization
Hello
I am new to Puppet and am having a hard time relating modules and
classes in configuration files to actual operating system files. For
instance I saw the following example on this list:
node ''somenode'' {
include puppetmaster
}
class puppetmaster {
include common
include puppet
include ldap_auth
include iptables::disabled
include httpd::ssl

Default ownership for static files
Hi,
I try to serve a file
file { "/root/test3.txt":
ensure => file,
source => "puppet:///yum/test.txt",
}
On the puppetmaster this files look like this
#$ ls -n test.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 502 301 4 8 Nov 16:25 test.txt
Finally, here is my question: What ownership may I expect on the
resulting file ?
Actually this is the result for me:
#$ ls -l

WEBrick, Passenger or Mongrel
Hi,
My organization is going to set up puppet soon. We have thousands
servers and desktops. Would WEBrick work well for this? Or should we
use Passenger?
Thanks,
Haiyan

Puppetmaster with apache/passenger on SL6
Dear experts,
Since I''ve moved my *puppetmaster* form SL5 (Scientific Linux) to SL6 with
SELinux on, I''m facing loads of trouble. I also move away from WEBrick to
apache/passenger, following the instruction here:
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/1/wiki/Using_Passenger

and I can''t start httpd any more. It fails with this:

puppet 3 and standalone passenger?
I''ve been looking around for instructions on installing puppetmaster with a
standalone passenger, without apache.
I''m a personal believer in, "the fewer layers, the better" :)
Unfortunately, I cant find any instructions for this configuration.
Everything seems to be written for "puppet AND httpd and passenger".
Could anyone point me to instructions sans

Simultaneous Client updates
Hi all,
I''m currently getting a lot of update failures showing up with no logs in
the dashboard. This happens for about half of our 28 nodes, about once an
hour. When re-run half an hour later, everything seems fine.
Through a combination of server restarts and our Puppet master locking up
entirely yesterday, almost all of our nodes are now trying to do their half
hourly update at

When do modules get auto-imported
My understanding was that at the beginning of each run the
puppetmaster imports all modules so that any includes at the top level
are applied directly. However, I am not so sure anymore.
I''ve been tracing how this works and it seems like modules are
included more lazily. In other words, when able_to_import is called
seems like when the magic happens, rather than up front when the run

puppetlabs/puppetdb module when using passenger for master
I''m working on configuring a master in a lab environment, using Puppet Open
Source. My master is running RHEL 6.
I want to use modules to manage the master itself as much as possible, so I
can use puppet to bootstrap itself as I go forward and move into production.
Using puppetlabs/puppetdb to configure puppetdb, I''ve overcome most of my
issues but I have two questions.

Puppet Master System Requirements
I''ve been messing around with Puppet on a VM on my personal desktop.
It looks descent. I was wondering what kind of load this thing would
have managing about 400 nodes.
Does this thing require a beefy server?

Change the location of puppet.conf
Hey guys,
Does anyone know how to change the location of puppet.conf? In my
situation, I don''t want to store it under /etc/puppet/puppet.conf or
~/.puppet/puppet.conf -- I''d like to store it under /opt/puppet/puppet.conf
in this example. Is there a method without having to symlink, perhaps with
an environment variable like PUPPET_CONF=.... ?
Thanks for your time,
Jason

Puppet/Passenger :: Could not retrieve catalog from remote server:Error 403 on server
Greetings,
I have a tested, working setup of Puppet and Webrick. I can add nodes,
classes, etc.
Then I switched to Puppet/Passenger and get the error below.
Puppet, Apache and Passenger are all up.
I have installed using *YUM *repos and *GEMs*. So, I have the most updated
packages they have.
Puppet version: 2.7.19
Ruby version: 1.8.7 (2011-06-30 patchlevel 352 i386)

trouble with passenger and 0.25.0beta2
Hi,
I''m currently trying to get my puppetmaster work in passenger, but have not
succeeded so far.
Passenger itself seems to work (a small "hello world" app runs fine), but
when I point a puppet client (0.24.8) to it, I get:

Debugging Puppetmaster with Apache/Rack/Passenger
Hi,
I''m currently trying to debug a performance issue I''m having. Therefore I
would need "DEBUG" output. When using one puppetmaster process, this is
fairly easy by starting it like this:
> puppet master --no-daemonize --debug
Now I need to see this debug output when running puppetmaster the way I
ususally do - using Apache/Rack/Passenger. After looking

problem using apache & passenger to run dashboard
Hi,
My puppetmaster is running through apache, and now I am setting up
dashboard to be run by apache too.
I followed docs in
http://docs.puppetlabs.com/dashboard/manual/1.2/bootstrapping.html#starting-and-managing-delayed-job-workers,
but after I restarted httpd, I see a apache welcome page.
I set documentroot to be:

Puppet / Passenger SSL Problems with DRBD
I am working on setting up a Puppet configuration where some of the
data is stored on a DRBD volume. The modules and vardir are stored on
the drbd volume. The puppet.conf files point to the drbd volume for
vardir. I created a cert for a VIP puppet-master using the puppetca --
create command
I had everything working on the primary drbd node, but when I fail

Puppetmaster child processes hang
After an unexpected and unreasonably long hiatus, I''ve finally returned to
implementing Puppet in my environment.
My puppetmaster: Puppet 0.25.4, Facter 1.5.7, Ruby 1.8.7, and FreeBSD 8.0.
I''ve got five clients using the puppetmaster so far. After about 24 hours,
I''ve got three puppetmaster processes running. This number continues to grow
over time. If stored configs

centos 6.2 - puppet 2.7.13 - SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server session ticket A: tlsv1 alert protocol version
Hi!
I''ve installed puppetmaster 2.7.13 on a server with CentOS 6.2 with a rpm
supplied by yum.puppetlabs.com.
I''ve setup a apache2 vhost with mod_ssl and passenger. The server is
configured to autosign the cert requests.
The agent installed on the puppetmaster''s server works fine. I''ve a second
agent on a server which can sync with the server too. This
