dos-attack on inetd.
Hi. I don''t know if this one is known, but I can''t recall seeing anything about it. If it is old news I apologize. I discovered a bug in the inetd that comes with NetKit-B-0-08 and older. If a single SYN is sent to port 13 of the server, inetd will die of Broken Pipe: write(3, "Sun Jan 12 21:50:35 1997\r\n", 26) = -1 EPIPE (Broken pipe) --- SIGPIPE (Broken pipe) ---

freenode #asterisk IRC channel identd problem
Sorry to ask this question here since it's related to IRC and not Asterisk, but I am having trouble logging into the #asterisk IRC channel on freenode and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and solved it. So here's the situation: Whenever I try to login to the #asterisk channel I get a message like "you must be identified to login to this channel." So after doing

tftp-hpa 0.28, 0.29 interoperability problem
Hi, I have a tftp client which loads quite happily from a tftpd built from netkit-tftp-0.16 but which fails to load from from a tftpd built from tftp-hpa 0.29. In both cases, tftpd was built from pristine sources and run from xinetd under Redhat 7.3. [netkit-tftp-0.16 is the ancestor of tftp-hpa, predating HPA's maintenance of same] [the tftp client also.. .. fails with the prebuilt tftpd

IRC channel #asterisk on irc.freenode.net
Hi all! It's great to start with "for dummies" question, but hey, we all have been human infants also =) Problem is, that I can not log on to this channel and I haven't found anything helpful during the past few days either. 1. The irc.freenode.net server gives me "Couldn't look up your hostname" and "No identd (auth) response" followed with

identd on "clients"
Hi, I use shorewall on my router (internal ip: 192.168.1.4). The router is used as a gateway for my lan. If I try to access an IRC server from any "client" (for exaples 192.168.1.1) I get the message "no identd". I tried the following in my shorewall rules config (etc/shorewall/rules), but i doesn''t work: ACCEPT net loc tcp 113

tcp wrappers Question..
hey folks, I keep seeing this on the internet "The user name lookup feature of TCP Wrappers uses identd to identify the username of the remote host. By default, this feature is disabled, as identd may appear hung when there are a large number of TCP connections." but I cant seem to find out how/where to enable said feature. Jason

SoxMix - Fails to Execute
I have Asterisk configured to record calls. Both in and out record ok but SoxMix fails to join the two files. The error from the CLI is as follows: Execute of ( nice -n 19 soxmix /var/spool/asterisk/monitor/Support-in.wav /var/spool/asterisk/monitor/Support-out.wav /var/spool/asterisk/monitor/Support.wav && rm -f /var/spool/asterisk/monitor/Support-* ) & failed. Cisco 7970, CTLSEP<mac>.tlv
I just wanted to post this so that it was out there and Googleable. Hopefully it will save other people a bit of time. If you have a Cisco phone (I was testing with a 7970, though presumably it would affect 7960 and others as well) that is looping trying to fetch the CTL tlv file - it may be because you are using Debians 'tftpd' (should be netkit-tftpd...*cough*hey, Debian

Some experiences
Heyas ... I'm trying to use dovecot to set up a 'closed server' (actually, mixed) sort of environment, for a box to be deployed co-located. I wanted to talk about some of that, and see if some of my experience qualifies as 'bug'. Note that I'm notoriously verbose, so if that bothers you, read no further .... Since it's a more-or-less closed server, I didn't want

RHL OpenSSH upgrade: _new_ sshd is not started
Hello all, A few days ago I noticed that the following seems to happen when upgradign OpenSSH on Linux-based (/etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd) based systems: - sshd is restarted with 'sshd restart'; however sshd serving in port 22 is not replaced. - you have to kill the old one (netstat -ltp | grep :ssh ; kill ...) first, then restart sshd. - This might happen only when performing the upgrade

Backing Up Files I Don't Own
Hi, I need to back up all of /home on a remote server for which I have root access but cannot (and will not) do root logins via ssh. Of course if I attempt to rsync files that I don't own, rsync skips over them. My account is allowed to sudo, if that helps. How can I use rsync to do the following: rsync -av --compress --progress --delete -e me@SomeRemoteServer:/home

Problem with mysql...
Hello, I am trying to run dovecot on my Linux. I am using an exim 3.30 as the MTA with vmail-sql virtual users. I have installed latest dovecot release and ran through the config file. Some options seemed unclear to me, but generally I think it is OK. The problem is, that MySQL authentication does not work. It even does not try to authenticate! Dovecot connects correctly with MySQL database,

Re(2): Mime Type and Ogg (More)
Hi, I don't really know the details of the discussion, but I'd like to present this issue from a user-oriented perspective, and from the perspective of how Nautilus wants to use data files. In brief, Nautilus makes the assumption that the mime type is sufficient to pick the right applicatiob or pluggable component to view/edit a particular content type. This is quickly coming to be the

reconsider SRP, it's way cool
I just joined the list, and I see in the archives that about a month ago there was a brief discussion of SRP, but it was dismissed. I urge people to take a look at this site: http://srp.stanford.edu/srp/ It's very cool. Let's say I'm on vacation visiting a friend, and I want to log in to my account back home. I trust my friend's machine, but I don't have my home
