IMAPD fix for RH
You probably know this already, but the following notice appeared to bugtraq. As a side note the protocol on bugtraq seems to be designed to make a fix available before the announcement by providing one yourself or giving the maintainer a week's advance warning (M$ gets a lot longer warning and *still* fails to fix the bugs before bugtraq knows). Having said that M$ insists on allowing me

Re: RedHat 5.X Security Book
[mod: This discussion has been going on "offline" with an occasional CC to linux-security. By the time I got around to do another "moderation round" this one was the latest. Everyone is keeping good context, so I think you all will be able to follow the discussion. --REW] >>>>> <seifried@seifried.org> writes: >> The only thing I can see coming out

wildcard fields
Hey all, is there a way to wildcard field searches? As in: - a document like {:title => ''foo'', :description1 => ''bar'', :description2 => ''bar2''} I''d search: index.search("description*: search query") I understand the example above is silly, but it''s enough to make the question understandable :-)

LazyDoc over DRb
Hey all, I''m distributing requests to a small farm of Ferret servers across the network using DRb. In a specific part of my program, I''m trying to find an entry across servers, and for that, I''m using index[''example_doc_id''].load as the return value of the function in question. This returns a Ferret::Index::LazyDoc, which is all fine and dandy,

RJS referring to window.parent
Hi all, I''ve been doing some work on the Ajax Scaffold (http://www.ajaxscaffold.com/), to make it work with file uploads (more specifically, the file_upload plugin). The first logical step was to get rid of form_remote_tag, since it''s impossible to send files via XMLHTTPRequests (to my best knowledge). So I referred to the iframe hack, similar to the upload progress bar here

no sound. "Failed to write frame"
Hi all, Couldn't find a place to search the list archives... I'm having issues in getting any sound using a fresh asterisk install and a SJPhone to connect to it. I went by the instructions pointed at the "10 minute guide", located here: http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk+quickstart. I installed it on a Slackware 10.1, by using no more than "make

Rating application for Asterisk
Does anyone knows a working FOSS rating application for Asterisk? I tried CDRTool, but since it's free for non commercial use, it won't suit me. Also I gave a shot at Trabas (the one everybody says it sucks), but I couldn't understand how does it pull records from Asterisk's CDR table. The rate-engine addon (http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk+addon+rate-engine)

ferret using UTF-8
Hey all, I went through the docs in Ferret''s page, plus a quick search through the email list (thread titles), and I couldn''t find any info on how to have Ferret storing it''s data using UTF-8. In the scenario I would use it, nothing''s being stored outside (like external databases). So it''s just how Ferret would do it that I''m interesting in

--exclude-from and a directory name that contains a hyphen
I'm having a problem with an exclude list and I wanted to run it by the group before I cry "Bug!". Here's the scenario: I'm working on a script to selectively synchronize several directories with those on a server using rsync (version 3.0.5 protocol version 30). I am using the --exclude-from command option, and everything works, except when a directory I am specifying

Named update for RH 4.2 exploitable?
Someone I was speaking with this evening claimed they have installed the latest named rpms yet they are still getting exploited daily and being hacked. Do the latest rpm''s for the named 4.9.x stuff fix all the root exploits or is this person just an idiot who probably has holes elsewhere in the system?

Gale-Shapley Algorithm for R
Dear R-helpers, I'm not a speciallist in writing complex functions, and the function still very rusty (any kind of suggestions are very welcome). I want to implement Gale-Shapley algorithm for R Language. It is based on http://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/2312726 Gale and Shapley (1962) , and it has evolved to

searching with chinese chars
Hi all, maybe not a Ferret question, but I assume here might have came across that already. I wrote a simple CGI app that adds docs into a Ferret index. The idea is testing asian languages input and searching. The script that does the input seems to be OK. As David mentioned in a question I made a little while ago, Ferret''s index is agnostic, in the sense that you can store anything in

Network Card
I am having problems with a PC running Fedora Core 1, the speed of the network connection is very slow both SMB and NFS. I have tried two 'budget' LAN cards so far but the second one I tried was even worse! Fedora is recognising the cards correctly. So I am asking if anyone has a favourite NIC that they use with Fedora that produces something like 100Mbs? Thanks for your help! Nick Gale

sqlsave and mysql database with autoincremental column
Hello, I'm trying to modify my r-script to use RODBC instead of DBI/RMySQL (no more ready-to-use package for windows). I would like to copy a data.frame of 44 columns to a table of 45 columns (the 45th is an autoincremental column). With the following commands, colnames(df)<- a vector with the names of the 44 columns
