Linux SMB Mount utils patch
Hi, I'm sure that you are all aware that the mount utilities that ship with samba are designed to compile and run only with Linux 2.1 series development kernels. I'll _try_ keep this short and sweet while doing my best to explain what I have done, since I have a tendancy to ramble on. I have two boxes, one Linux with libc5, and another with Linux and Glibc2 (aka libc6). The Samba

Problem with cleaning utmp entry
Hello I have problem with OpenSSH 2.1.1p1 on libc5 system (Slackware 4). I'm not sure if I had those problems with 1.2.x version of OpenSSH (on the same system), but I don't think so. When someone ends ssh session (logout, or something) utmp entry for that user doesn't get erased from UTMP file. In 'finger' I can see a lot of multiplicied users that are not actually logged

Linux libc5.4.33 dumbness w/ mk[s]temp()
Linux libc5.4.33''s mk[s]temp() functions require 6 X''s at the end of a filename (the BSD versions I''ve seen are a bit more flexible). This alone is enough to break any claims to real BSD compatability, but wait, there''s more: Only 1 of those 6 X''s are really unique. The rest are simply pid. So you can create exactly 62 temp files using mk[s]temp()

Btmp and Wmtp log rotate
IN the /var/log/ folder there are two files WTMP and BTMP BTMP is getting huge after a year, about 800MB, WTMP is getting close to 1MB. In the /etc/logrotate.conf I see this -------------------- # no packages own wtmp -- we'll rotate them here /var/log/wtmp { monthly minsize 1M create 0664 root utmp rotate 1 } ------------------- I can see where WTMP will probably rotate

Slackware 4.0: wtmp and pty.c problems
Hello all, I use a Slackware 4.0 based system (libc5 based, with glibc2.07 runtime support). I've configured OpenSSH using: ./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh --without-pam --with-default-path=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbi n:/sbin NOTE: yes, --with-default-path DOES work, since pre24 (pre 22 did not) When I try to compile OpenSSH-1.2.1pre25 (or pre24 or pre22), I

IceCast 1.3.11: Segmentation Violation in Linux
*sigh* Yes, you're right... It _has_ been a few years. My drive is filling up and all, I probably have tons of old/vulnerable daemons, so it's probably time for a fresh install. Old (really old) programs under CentOS.
Ok, I have a small dilemma, and I'm hoping someone here has had to do this before. I have at a site (not PARI) a server running some mission critical software that was written in 1997 for libc5, under AOLserver 2.3.? No, source code is not available for that version of AOLserver (it wasn't open-sourced until version 3.0, and the API changed rather dramatically at that point), not that it

Odd issue with 7.7.1908 updated with qemu-kvm-ev
So, I have a client that has an internal use application that needs an ancient version of libc5.? That's not a typo; libc5.? Before the server that ran it died about a year and a half ago (said server was an AMD K6-2/450 with a 6GB Western Digital Caviar drive that had been spinning nearly continuously for almost 20 years!) it was running on Red Hat Linux 5.2.? The last version of CentOS

smbsh and smbwrapper - porting help needed
Someone asked today about smbfs on HPUX. The basic answer to that is that smbfs is _very_ operating system specific so it would take quite a lot of work to get it to run on another OS. There is hope though. Over the past few days I have been developing something called smbwrapper (and smbsh). This offers most of the capabilities of smbfs in a way that makes it somewhat portable. It also provides

MSG: sequence number gap
Hi, I have created a chained Ogg Vorbis file containing 26 files in 75304323 bytes using the Unix 'cat' utility. When I run the file through 'ogginfo' I get the message: Warning: sequence number gap in stream 26. Got page 0 when expecting page 9. Indicates missing data. This is what I have determined: * When I run each of the component files through

Need a bit of 'archeocomputing' help on CentOS 7.
I have an application with is binary-only, does its job well, and is only available for either libc5 (!) or early early glibc2.0 (!!). It has been running on a Red Hat Linux 5.2 (NOT RHEL; RHL) server for a really long time, and it honestly does its job and it's not easily replaced by an open-source solution at the moment. So, I need to do one of the following things: 1.) Run Red Hat
