WG: Re: AW: nagios_service does not replace target file
This module does basically what I have done in the very beginning. Create an empty directory as a preparation step for the configuration files. But this configuration also did not regenerate the files. Seems, I will stick with my workaround and delete the files manually and the restart the Puppet agent. If anyone is interested in details, see: http://wp.me/p1RukY-1n. Thanks for helping, Gabriel!

Exported variable foo...(fu?)
Hi folks, For the first time since I started playing with puppet I started down the road of using exported resources This was inspired by my reading all of the nagios related recipes that went something along the lines of class nagios { package {nagios: ensure=> latest } service {nagios : ensure => running , enable => true} Nagios_host <<! !>>

Exported Resources with keyword undef
Hello ! I''m using a lot of nagios_ commands in my puppet manifests and I saw a problem when using ''undef'' in exported resources : Here is a simple example : define nagios::service::distributed ($ensure=present, $service_description, $host_name=false, $contact_groups=false) { nagios_service {$name: ensure => $ensure, use =>

Nagios purge deleted items and notify nagios service problem
I am using stored configs to manage my nagios host and services checks and I have run into a problem that I have been unable to solve. When the stored configs are purged from puppet the nagios server correctly removes them from the services and hosts file but does not notify the nagios service and instead throws an error. So the entries are still there and nagios still reports on them until

Puppet/Nagios/PuppetDB slow performance
Hi all, For months now I''ve been using Puppet with PuppetDB backend to manage my Nagios configs. We now have 1200+ services being checked and including servicedependency, host, hostdependency, command and other Nagios resources being managed, that''s about 3000 resources in total. Unfortunately this means the monitoring server takes about 8 minutes to perform a Puppet run.

Storeconfigs and nagios and foreman
All- Poking around in the bug database it looks like storeconfigs is being actively worked on. I am using 2.7.6 on my master as well as all the clients. I have clients boot , start puppet and get a signed cert via auto signing. The nagios module (and currently the only thing puppet does) complains a lot during compile time about not having storeconfigs enabled, which is not the case in my

unmanaging config data
Hi, I''m happily aware of the way that there is no concept of unmanaging something and when this is in the context of a file ownership or whatever, then that makes sense. But when this is applied to things like nagios configuration data the principle seems to come unstuck. Or at least, it seems so to me. Say I have a nagios_service which uses another template nagios_service. I am about

Puppet nagios integration problem
Hi all, I''m working on setting up Puppet to write out my Nagios configs. A few weeks back I inserted a few dummy Nagios checks into my Puppet config, and the Nagios configs were written out properly. I''ve now added loads of Nagios host and service checks like this: @@nagios_service { "check_smtp_${hostname}": check_command =>

Setting nagios hostgroups based on included classes
I''m trying to generate (and manage) nagios configuration based on what classes have been included by nodes. I''ve seen the example at http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/exported_resources.html, and I''m doing that now. However, it has some problems: - puppet runs are very slow on the nagios node - when I want to change the service configuration in nagios, I have to wait

escape regex code
hello, i wondered if it would not be interesting to have some filters function in puppet like filter_integer(), filter_prelregex, filter_text, filter_email or such so we can validate and make our defines a little more foolproof :) i particulary see filter_regex as usefull in quite a lot of exec that manipulates text files. What do you think about this ? -- Cordialement, Ghislain

Workgroup compared to Domain
Are there any good articles comparing features/functions of a Workgroup compared to a Domain? I am trying to put something together for the Amahi project and so far my searches have been rather slim pickins.

Why is it so hard to make a sane nagios server config?
I''ve tried to achieve my overall goals with several different features of Puppet, but I''ve hit a bit of a wall here. I think it''s time for me to explain what I''m trying to accomplish: I want the enabling of a service in my manifests to configure the monitoring of that service by a nagios server, without needless repetition. Let me explain how my

features and form filling - going declarative?
I''m working on writing features for a wizard. The wizard collects information from a number of different forms, and you can navigate through it in a number of ways. Anyhow one of these forms is a customer form collecting name, and email. In the context of the wizard I feel that the following scenarios Scenario: Given I step to customer And I fill in my customer details

Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98
When I SSH using protocol 1 from a Debian box running OpenSSH 2.9p2-4 to a sparc.sunos5 box running vanilla OpenSSH 2.9.1, after a little while (of inactivity?) I get the following message on the client terminal: Disconnecting: protocol error: rcvd type 98 Looking further, this message is actually caused by the SSH daemon. However, I'm at a loss to determine why sshd is doing this. I attach

[PATCH RFC v13 00/20] Introduce PVH domU support
This patch series is a reworking of a series developed by Mukesh Rathor at Oracle. The entirety of the design and development was done by him; I have only reworked, reorganized, and simplified things in a way that I think makes more sense. The vast majority of the credit for this effort therefore goes to him. This version is labelled v13 because it is based on his most recent series, v11.

Administrator cannot connect to samba on 2008 R2 ADS members
I have an odd situation where Samba 3.x domain members in an Active Directory 2008 R2 domain cannot authenticate the Administrator. All other users work, but if I try to connect to the samba services as the domain Administrator, authentication fails. The Windows domain controllers are happy to accept connections from the Administrator (e.g. using smbclient) but the Linux (Centos 5.5 and 5.6)
