win2ksp2 "cannot load profile" from a --with-ldapsam domain controller
Apologies if this is well hashed-over, but I searched pretty dilligently
on the web and mailing list archive and couldn't find the answer. I even
stumped my resident samba guru (hi Sean).
Server is Red Hat 7.3. Tried with both the Red Hat 7.3 rpm just recompiled
--with-ldapsam as well as the samba.org src.rpm also recompiled with
--with-ldapsam. Things work for the most part, people are

Improved Nelder-Mead algorithm - a potential replacement for optim's Nelder-Mead
Hi,
I have written an R translation of C.T. Kelley's Matlab version of the Nelder-Mead algorithm. This algorithm is discussed in detail in his book "Iterative methods for optimization" (SIAM 1999, Chapter 8). I have tested this relatively extensively on a number of smooth and non-smooth problems. It performs well, in general, and it almost always outperforms optim's

Win XP Profiles
Please, please help me.
I am running RH6.2, Samba 2.2.4 and Windows XP (with sign seal patch). Samba
is my PDC.
I want to use roaming profiles and it nearly works except for something
really strange.
When I logon to the Domain as a user and make changes to files etc and then
log out it updates my roaming profile
perfectly on the server. As the same user if I logon to another machine it

Astricon Meetup
Everyone,
I will be attending Astricon in Phoenix and would like to have a
little get together to discuss Open Source Telephony and the
challenges we as developers and system integrators face. Exchange
ideas and go over some use cases and see how we can all work together
to improve our understanding of the dynamics of how everything works
together.
* Scaleability
* Reusability of code

Thank you Lars for the reply. Your instructions were dead on.
Yes I have considered the security risks; however, I think scaleability and rapid deployment out weigh the security risks for me.

Identifying US holidays
Hello!
I am trying to identify which ones of a vector of dates are US
holidays. And, ideally, which is which. And I do not know (a-priori)
which dates those should be.
I have, for example:
x<-seq(as.Date("2011-01-01"),as.Date("2011-12-31"),by="day")
(x)
I think chron should help me here - but maybe I am not using it properly:
library(chron)

Network IP address
Hello all,
Quick question.
Our network has NO connection to the internet (the way we want it) but we
are using 66.2.x.x as our IP addresses. However, I am now reading that
192.168.x.x is the preferred naming convention. If I leave as 66.2.x.x will
I have problems with Samba?
Because I dont connect to the Internet do I need to change?
Thanks in advance and hope

"Fastest" way to merge 300+ .5MB dataframes?
Good afternoon,
Today I was working on a practice problem. It was simple, and perhaps
even realistic. It looked like this:
? Get a list of all the data files in a directory
? Load each file into a dataframe
? Merge them into a single data frame
Because all of the columns were the same, the simplest solution in my
mind was to `Reduce' the vector of dataframes with a call to
`merge'. That

R: determinants and inverses
hello all
sorry for the following "none" R related question.
does anyone know of a reference to calculate the following identity:
|I + ABC|
where I is an identity matrix and A, B,C may not have to be square matrices?
you help will be greatly appreciated.

Force User -
Hello,
I am using Samba shares as a way for my users to publish files from their
Windows XP PC's to my Apache Web Server on Red Hat Linux.
The username I use for Apache is apache and it has full read, write and
execute access on all the files within my webserver root directory. In the
Samba Shares I use force user = apache so this means that any files created
using the share actually get

Large Asterisk installations
Hi,
Could anyone elaborate on using * on medium/large sized installations
(more than 50 channels)?
I'm interested in learning more about performance, stability,
scaleability, fault tolerance, and what hardware are you using.
Thanks!

Is it a good idea or even possible to redefine attach?
Hi,
Today I got curious about whether or not I /could/ remove `attach' from
my system so:
- Backed it up
- Implemented a new one
- Like this
,----
| attach.old <<- attach
| attach <<- function(...) {stop("NEVER USE ATTACH")}
`----
I got the error:
,----
| Error: cannot change value of locked binding for 'attach'

If I unlock `attach' I assume that I

clustering methods in R
Dear R people,
I need to do some work with clustering, but know next to nothing about it
at present. R has (at least) three clustering packages, cluster, mclust,
cclust.
I was wondering if someone can direct me to some good books where I could
find documentation and background on the functions in these packages. The
html help in these packages lists the following as references. Can people
