Hash iteration order in a template not consistent
Hi,
I did some basic googling, but didn''t find an answer yet. I am sorry if
this is a FAQ.
In a manifest for creating an Apache config file, I define a hash like this:
$aliases = {
''/foo/'' => ''/home/foo/www/'',
''/bar/'' => ''/home/bar/www/'',
''/baz/'' =>

Why is it so hard to make a sane nagios server config?
I''ve tried to achieve my overall goals with several different features
of Puppet, but I''ve hit a bit of a wall here. I think it''s time for me
to explain what I''m trying to accomplish:
I want the enabling of a service in my manifests to configure
the monitoring of that service by a nagios server, without
needless repetition.
Let me explain how my

using memorysize fact in manifests
Hi,
I want some config depending on memorysize.
What I tried was
if ($memorysize >= 256 * 1024*1024) {
...
}
But this fails because $memorysize is a string (and contains a "G") and can''t be
compared to an int.
Are all facts strings? How do I work with numbers?

Puppet + APT, I am lost...
Hi,
For the past week, I have been trying to figure out the best way to do
package management with Puppet on an Ubuntu system. I have studied many
solutons I found on the web, but none of them seem to do exactly what I want.
Among other things, I have tried everything that is discussed here:
http://groups.google.com/group/puppet-users/browse_thread/thread/af7349171a5821a4/db96b809c97f6006

CIDR-matching in puppet manifests?
I have a few settings that change based on the network that a system is
in, and I have a heterogeneous collection of networks (a few /24s, some
/25s, a /29 and a couple /27s, and hey look a /16 in rfc1918 space
and...). So I can''t do simple regex matches on dotted-quad IP notation
and expect to get a complete story.
What I''d like is something like, I dunno...
$nameserver =

looking for one-liner for strsplit and regex
Hi,
I have a line such as:
myline <- " 0.100000 1.5000 0.6000 538
0.369404"
and I would like to put the numbers into a vector. Some combination of
tabs and spaces occur between the numbers.
I tried:
try1 <- strsplit(myline,"[[:blank:]]+")
> try1
[[1]]
[1] "" "0.100000" "1.5000"

Hi all.

How to enable T.38 between SPA3102 PSTN Line port and ReceiveFAX app ?
Hello,
I've got an analog phone which is currently receiving unsollicited FAX
calls from PSTN.
For learning purpose, I'm preparing an Asterisk/SPA3102 setup that would
let voice calls come in and out and translate incoming FAX calls to TIF
files (forwarded through email)).
My target setup is :
PSTN <-- analog--> SPA3102 Line Port <-- SIP --> Asterisk <-- SIP -->

When the lint accumulates...
So some of you may be aware that Tim Sharpe from GitHub wrote a Puppet
linting tool:
$ gem install puppet-lint
$ puppet-lint mymanifest.pp
Source: https://github.com/rodjek/puppet-lint
The linting tool checks Puppet code for "best practice" based on the
Puppet Labs Style Guide:
http://docs.puppetlabs.com/guides/style_guide.html
A lot of us have been using puppet-lint (and puppet

Module Execution Order
So.. I''ve been fighting with trying to get puppet to include/execute
module in a certain order for several weeks now. I kind of have
something hacked together, but it scares me a bit since I don''t know
exactly what is happening.
I don''t suppose there''s still an easy way to do this....?

advisory file locks in linux - do they work?
Hi - I'm trying to verify if OpenSSH/SFTP will in fact lock files with
advisory file locking in Linux. I can test locking with the linux
"flock" command to verify that file locking does work - but when I
upload or download a file with SFTP it will not detect a lock. I'm
asking about Linux specifically because about a year ago I was doing a
similar process in Solaris 9 and

[semi-OT] C7 Possible bug but I can't determine what tool has the problem
Hi all,
I'm writing a script that uses rsync to sync 2 dirs on C7.
I noticed a strange behaviour.
I have 2 dir: src and dest. In src dir I generate a testfile with "dd
if=/dev/zero of=testfile bs=1M count=100" and when I run "du -h
testfile" I get the correct result.
Then I sync src/ to dest/ using "rsync -avS? src/ dest/", all ok but
when I run "du -h

Announcing Razor
Puppet Labs is really thrilled to announce, in conjunction with EMC, our
new open source bare metal provisioning tool: Razor.
Razor is next generation provisioning software that handles bare metal
hardware and virtual server provisioning with inventory discovery and
tagging, rule-based policy management, and extensible broker plugin
integration. It integrates closely with Puppet and Facter.
