facter fails to recognize OEL/OVS in operatingsystemrelease.rb
For the benefit of those running OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) or OVS, be aware that under 2.6.0rc4 facter doesn''t properly recognize OEL in /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/facter/operatingsystemrelease.rb. A diff for a fix is below; probably not the best fix but if you need it work now, this''ll do it for you. I''ve already filed a bug:

Facter ''operatingsystemrelease'' fact.
From looking at the Facter code, it looks like the ''operatingsystemrelease'' fact is currently a mirror of the ''kernelrelease'' fact. I''d like to implement this fact so that it returns the major version of the operating system, eg: Debian Sarge: operatingsystemrelease => 3.1 Debian Etch: operatingsystemrelease => 4.0 RHEL3 update 8:

Facter operatingsystemrelease on Fedora
Currently, facter returns the kernel version as both the kernel and operatingsystemrelease facts. I would like to change that so that on Fedora, operatingsystemrelease is the release number (5,6,7 etc.) or ''Rawhide'' ... are there any objections to making that change ? David

ANNOUNCE: Facter 1.5
Hi all, I''ve finally gotten around to releasing Facter 1.5. As the version bump implies, this is a relatively significant release (for a 2.3k line program, anyway). Mostly, the biggest change is refactoring the code internally so that all of the functionality is split into separate classes in separate files. Also, the facts are all loaded on-demand, which provides dramatic

Puppet facter operatingsystemrelease
Hello, I am running puppet server version 0.25.4-2, and since Debian squeeze is the new stable release I would like to adapt some of my modules. I have a syslog-ng module, I would like to specify another template for my squeeze server. I changed my init.pp as follow : if ($operatingsystemrelease <= 5.0.8) { $syslog_template = "syslog/syslog-ng.conf.erb" } else {

Conditional with variable from facter
Hi. I have the following facts available: # facter | grep oper operatingsystem => CentOS operatingsystemrelease => 6.2 Now, if I wish to use conditionals on these facts, I have to do it like this: case $operatingsystem {} case $::operatingsystemrelease {} I''m puzzled as to why can''t I just use $operatingsystemrelease, and what do these two semicolons mean? Thank

Newbie stuck on facter not finding hostname
Hi all, I''m trying to get puppet working for the first time, and I''ve run into something that''s got me stumped. This is all on Solaris 10/x64. The initial startup of puppetmasterd wasn''t working, and it appeared to be related to the SSL certs not getting generated properly. I managed to trace that down to the fact that facter isn''t finding the

Conditional statement =,<,> etc.
Hello guys :), I''m kind of new to Puppet and stuck in defining a conditional statement. Here my problem: I want to provide different apt/source.list for different versions of Debian, 6.0.x and 7.0.x, which also run different versions of Puppet, 2.7.x and 3.2.x. My first idea was to use facters variable operatingsystemmajrelease and define like this: file {

Does Ruby 1.9.2 include ftools?
If I run irb, and do this: require ''ftools'' The response is: LoadError: no such file to load -- ftools I see around that 1.9.1 did not include ftools but no mention of 1.9.2. Looking at the Ruby docs (http://www.ruby-doc.org/stdlib/), ftools is still there. Any ideas? Thanks, David -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby on

win32-mmap problem
Hi all, Ruby 1.8.1 (hand built, not the installer) Windows 2000 I was just playing with win32-mmap. I tried running the test_server.rb and test_client.rb. I started the server, which seems to be fine, but when I run the client I get this: C:\eclipse\workspace\win32-mmap-0.1.0\test>ruby test_client.rb C:/ruby/lib/ruby/1.8/ftools.rb:23:in `initialize'': Permission denied -

problems with puppetd on some of my solaris machines
I am having troubles with getting puppetd running on some of my Solaris10 update 7 (05/2009) boxes. I use Jumpstart to build my servers, so the installation is repeatable, consistent, and automated, so it is especially confusing that some boxes work, and others don''t. I can ssh into both of these machines, so the host certs should be OK. As part of my installation, I download the

facter --yaml leaves some fields blank
Sometimes "facter --yaml" doesn''t list all the values specified on the command line. I can''t find rhyme nor reason why. Here''s a demo to show what I mean: # facter --version 1.5.7 # facter --yaml fqdn macaddress lsbdistcodename --- fqdn: my.host.name.example.com lsbdistcodename: squeeze macaddress: "00:00:00:00:00:00" We had been using the above

Mutliple custom facts not showing in facter
Hi, I''ve noticed that defining multiple facts in one file is possible, and puppet can make use of them correctly, but when trying to call with facter --puppet they are not shown, do I need something special to make them work as any other single custom fact? Master is running 2.6.7 This is a custom fact with two facts in it: [modules/foobar/lib/facter/foobar.rb ] require
