Rsync run on TCP/IP?
Dear All, I have searched the email archive but i didn't find a clear answer(maybe I miss it) ^^ 1. Does rsync run on TCP/IP? 2. Without ssh, then rsync will be transferred in plain text? 3. Does rsync support Samba? Am I true to say that rsync, which is mainly on user authetication, is transparent to the storage like ftp? Any help to any questions will be appreciated! Thank You!

Services not required?
I''m in the process of locking down as much of my systems here as possible as to available ports. I am down to only a handful but am not sure how much of a security risk they pose and was wondering if anyone here might be able to comment, or suggest secure versions to run: 21/FTP (WU-ftpd v2.4.2 BETA 14) 22/SSH (1.22) 23/TELNET (Netkit 0.09) 25/SMTP (Sendmail

"cipher none" alternatives ?
We are trying to upgrade from SSH1 to OpenSSH/SSH2. I see that configuration support for "cipher NONE" was removed in OpenSSH. Is there an alternative for this ? We need to move big files (>100Mb) between machines on the Internet. In the past we had used NFS or ftp but want to block those services at one or both ends. Moving them with SSH 1 scp takes quite a bit of CPU effort for

Centos 5 & tls v1.2, v1.1
Yep, maybe using ssl offloading devices like (BigIP) that receives tls1.2 and tlsv1.2 and then re-encrypts traffic with tls1.0 might be "cheapest" solution. -- Eero 2015-04-17 14:15 GMT+03:00 Johnny Hughes <johnny at centos.org>: > On 04/16/2015 05:00 PM, Eero Volotinen wrote: > > in fact: modgnutls provides easy way to get tlsv1.2 to rhel 5 > > > > -- >

Winbind problems
Hi, I'd appreciate any help getting winbind to work on Solaris 8 (Sparc). I've followed the HOWTOs and other documents on the web but can't seem to get even the basic functionality going. Some platform info: $ uname -a SunOS epiuse-sun 5.8 Generic_108528-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-i2 $ smbd -V Version 2.2.3a On the NT side it is win2k with an ADS tree. My samba config: $ more

Samba, Winbind, and netatalk on Solaris 8
I am having difficulty getting Netatalk to authenticate using NT Domain via Winbind. I have Samba successfully installed, and winbindd is working and running. (Tested via wbinfo) I have placed pam_winbind.so in the /usr/lib/security directory, and have installed netatalk with the --with-pam option, but I still cannot seem to get it working. Any help would be appreciated. John Helt Systems

SASL und APOP
Hi, all! I configured Dovecot to use many protocols. To do this, I wrote: mechanisms = plain digest-md5 cram-md5 apop ntlm Very strange, if I ask the capability, I get: CAPA TOP UIDL RESP-CODES PIPELINING STLS USER SASL PLAIN DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 NTLM . I can't understand why APOP is not written (but I can use it!) and why I can see SASL, that I didn't configure... How can I change

New User: POP3 issues
Fellow dovecot'ers, I'm just getting started with Dovecot, and I'm not a programmer, so please be gentle. ;-) THE PLATFORM: NetBSD 3.0/SPARC, Postfix 2.3-RC8, current Dovecot RC (I forgot the number). Maildir-type directories. THE GOAL: To accommodate authenticated (remote) POP3 users with APOP or SSL/TLS, and allow users on the internal network (192.168.x.x) to just use basic

APOP and AuthDatabase/SQL
Hi, We're running dovecot 1.2.15 and use SQL authentication. We'd like to be able to support APOP, but can't see how this would fit in with SQL auth. Currently we have: password_query = SELECT email as user, password FROM virtual_users WHERE email='%u' or (email LIKE '%n@%%' AND unhashed='%w') It seems that in order to auth APOP logins, we'd need to

APOP
I want to turn off POP3 and use POP3S in its place. So far, it's working well for Outlook and Thunderbird. But I'm running into problems with Agent: It supports APOP but not POP3S. Is there a way to have Dovecot support APOP authentication on a normal POP3 connection? I'm running 0.99.13 on Fedora Core 3. -- Steve

random pool depletion
I'm facing a problem with dovecot 1.0 test-59; ever since I installed it and use it my random pool is always depleted whenever someone opens an imap connection. This wouldn't be too bad if the machine was used interactively, but since it is not and other services read directly from /dev/random those are sometimes blocked due to dovecot depleting the pool by reading /dev/urandom. Thus

Virtual User Home Directory, and APOP Clear Text Passwords
Dear all, Hi. This is imacat from Taiwan. I'm new to this list. I was migrating from Qpopper to Dovecot. (Qpopper copies the mailbox when POP3 logged in, which causes quota problem.) Generally Dovecot is nice. However, I have a few questions: 1. I have a few virtual users, and I'm not using IMAP. Do I still have to give them a writable home directory? I mean, they

A Couple Of Issues (APOP Causes Auth SIGSEGV, Umask Setting Ineffective)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm very happy with Dovecot and wish the best for its continued development. It's a true testament to brilliant componentised design and Unix philosophy. Configuration made easy because of the way the file is parsed and a single point of startup make it ridiculously straightforward (and lovely) to administer. But of course, we all
