root fs upgraded to ext3 on rh 6.2 based machine problem when not cleanly unmounted
Hello, I search through but I didn't find a clear answer about it. I have a rh 6.2 based box where I made many steps of upgrades. Some of them, not being available the binary rpm glibc 2.1 based, I obtained using src.rpm from rh 7.2 and then runnig #rpm --rebuild package.src.rpm and then installing the generated binary: great sw rpm!!! My rpm version is 4.0.2-6x for both rpm, rpm-devel,

2.6 kernel on CentOS-3.3
Hi I am happy to share a "proof of concept" for a centos-3.3 (not yet 3.4 ready) x86 and x86_64 distributions running either 2.4 and 2.6 linux kernels. This is not an official statement of the CentOS team! <include std disclaimer> don't complain if this howto eats your machine ;) It works for me and the src.rpm are provided. </include> <blurb> In order to have a

converted ext2->ext3 root won't mount on boot as ext3
Kernel 2.4.8 on an Athlon 500. e2fsprogs-1.23 ext3 compiled as a module. I used "tune2fs" to make /boot and /home into ext3, and remounted them OK. (I am so amazed to see the system come right back without an lengthy fsck on these two file systems after a power off! Well done!) I also used "tune2fs -j" on /, it created a /.journal file. The debugfs features command shows

Successful Inplace migration from 4.4 to 5.0
I was able to successfully migrate from 4.4 to 5.0 in place. I created a guide for our webhost and thought to share it with the community in general. I registered as JasonPotkanski on the wiki. As a side note, if spam on the CentOS wiki is terrible, perhaps use of Bad Behavior may be used. -Jason Potkanski Citizendium ---- All right, Here is an unholy guide for Migrating Centos 4.4 to 5.0

Update e2fsprog-1.25 in linux/Documentation/Changes
Hey Stephen or Ted, Since ext3 is incorporated in linux-2.4.15-pre3 do you think we should update the Documentation/Changes since so many people had troubles with e2fsprog-2.1.19 and ext3 ? I couldn't see any RPM's after 2.1.19 so I removed RPM from the Changes file. Albert --- linux/Documentation/Changes.orig Sun Nov 11 22:17:34 2001 +++ linux/Documentation/Changes Sun Nov 11 22:21:07

e2fsprogs 1.23 problem handling 2.2 version 1 format journals
Just fired up a test machine on its first 2.4 kernel - specifically 2.4.9-ac16 (includes ext3 0.9.6). Had also upgraded e2fs tool set to 1.23. This box has previously had 2.2 kernels with Stephen's ext3 patches, and looks like it was last rebuilt from scratch in early March. I suspect it may have an old version 1 format journal on the filesystems. [Unfortunately I managed to destroy the

4.4 kickstart issues
Greetings all, I'm trying to create a CentOS 4.4 kickstart CD (not a network install), duplicating what I've done for Fedora Core 3. I am having a cirular dependency for initscripts, which causes initscripts not to be installed (no /etc/inittab when the boot gets to INIT) The cascade is: initscripts-7.39.25.EL-1.centos4 requires /sbin/nash /sbin/nash is in mkinitrd-4.2.1.8-1

CentOS bootstrapper for chroot(2) environment
Hi, just some script built along: Unattended install & run CentOS-4.1 just using chroot(1). Mostly a surprise for me it was so easy to reach that goal. It requires rpm(1) based host OS and it was tested only on Fedora Core 4. I needed it to do only a bit customized CentOS kernel package rebuild. CentOS 4.4 LILO Raid (also e2fsprogs in general)
i noticed that the 4.4 upgrade broke LILO on Raid... it gave errors on partitions not on the primary disk along the lines of "/dev/dis: no such device"... even explicitly installing the boot sector on each device in the array, while it allowed the system to boot, gave errors at boot time and did not display the CentOS boot screen anymore... i solved the problem by creating a

Broken upgrade to 5.2
Hello all, I was upgrading a CentOS 5.1 box to 5.2 remotely, and I lost my ssh connection to the server. Now when I rerun the "yum upgrade" it fails due to conflicts in the transaction check stage. Before I dig myself a deeper hole, I think I need advice. The original error I received was a conflict between python-devel and python, so I erased python-devel with the plan to

centos 3.3 and updates for 3.1
Hi Everyone, Centos 3.3 is available for general use - you can find it at: http://mirror.caosity.org/centos-3/3.3/ This should be a complete rebuild of all the nice things Red Hat has included in the srpms of their Enterprise Linux 3 update 3. This is a rebuild of all the changed packages from update 3 overlaid onto 3.1. It includes a rebuilt anaconda and new boot kernels for the installer.
