Variable interpolation challenge
I''m having a problem with variable interpolation that I haven''t found a good
solution to. I want to use a variable as part of the name of a fact, but
the interpolation doesn''t work as expected. I''ve allowed for passing the
mac address into my define() but if it''s not provided I want to look it up
via facter.

Is it possible to evaluate a string as a parameter name?
Hi,
I''m looking to combine a couple of fact names with the value of a class
parameter to create and lookup the resulting fact''s value. Is that
possible? For example, my class will take the parameter "my_default_nic"
from beyond. So I know that as long as $my_default_nic exists on the
client, then so will facts like macaddress_<NIC>, netmask_<NIC>,

template issue: nested variables?
I need to do something like this
node foo {
$iface = pcn0
...
}
# the template
<%= network_<%= iface %> %>/<% netmask_<%= iface %> %>
The idea being that a file would be built on the client holding the
value of pcn0''s network/netmask
Of course, I''m trying to avoid hard coding the interface name in order
to keep my code portable.
Thanks in advance

facter --yaml leaves some fields blank
Sometimes "facter --yaml" doesn''t list all the values specified on the
command line. I can''t find rhyme nor reason why. Here''s a demo to
show what I mean:
# facter --version
1.5.7
# facter --yaml fqdn macaddress lsbdistcodename
---
fqdn: my.host.name.example.com
lsbdistcodename: squeeze
macaddress: "00:00:00:00:00:00"
We had been using the above

I''m running Puppet 2.7.1 on the master as well as the agent and just
received a new error which doesn''t actually reference a module or a file, so
I''m somewhat stuck as to how to debug this. Any pointers?

[NQ] How to set an initial FK for a new item of something?
Hi all,
running into a little problem here. I''ve a list of things
with a "New thing" link beneath it. When you click that link,
obviously, a new thing shall be created. Now, that works pretty
fine for things that don''t have foreign keys, but for things that
do it crashes, since there is not yet a thing.other_thing.name
available.
I suspect you can somewhere in

Arrays from templates
Hi,
I am having an issue trying to use the inline_template function to
return an array. This is what I do:
$array = inline_template ("<%= a=[''a1'',''b2'',''c3'']; a %>")
notify {"array: ${array}":}
And that works, showing the typical comma-less string:
notice: /Stage[main]//Notify[array: a1b2c3]/message: defined

Using register_template_handler to serve CSS files (Making ActionView handle .css as .rhtml)
Hi,
I wanted to be able to use some Rails code inside CSS files, so I set up
a controller (StylesController) to serve CSS files that reside inside
the controller''s view folder when the browser requests /stylesheets/:action
So in the controller I just define empty actions with the names I want
my style sheets in (ie: def cooleffects end - that would respond to

manipulating facter variable
I''m trying to manipulate the following facter variable:

What I need is the second group of digits. If it''s 84 then location is

In puppet I couldn''t grab this second set of digits, but maybe there
is a way?
I''ve already tried to make a custom fact, but my ruby knowledge is

hash to_yaml in erb template not giving valid yaml

Variable named "memory" in templates

a template, like this:

content => inline_template("memory = <%= memory %>\n");
}
One would think that my file would contain "memory = 4711" after that,
but instead the memory variable seems to hold a

How to include the Scope(...) in a generated string?
I''d like to include similar information that notice() spits out in a
file I am generating -- basically so that anyone looking at the
generated file (actually a file fragment) could trace it back to the
class that is generating the entry.
Using $name within the file fragment is the closest I am getting to
what I want -- is there anything better?
