Workstations and Certs
I am trying to come up with a workable solution in managing numerous
Mac workstations allowing a high degree of flexibility with regards to
certs.
My puppet environment is setup to application installation on machines
that have been ''imaged'' with a base OS and the puppet and facter apps.
So, when a Mac is ''imaged'' and subsequently re-booted, puppet is run

WWDC Puppeteer lunch
Reminder for Mac Puppeteers going to WWDC
How about we meet for lunch at noon on Tuesday. Let''s try to get the
table closet to the Odwalla refrigerator, just for reference. We can
get more specific on this list on the 8th after we verify the set up.
I might even get there a little earlier and put down "reserved" tags.

facter question
int he example below I run facter looking for the fact "sp_serial_number". as you can see, the command facter sp_serial_number returns nothing, but the fact is there and is returned when just running facter and grepping for the fact.
Some fact seem to work and others do not. any ideas?

How best to monitor puppet?
We want to use Nagios to monitor out puppet server so we can be notified
if it goes down. We are using Fusion Passenger and Apache on Red Hat.
Any suggestion for what and how to monitor?

Puppet deployment and upgrading itself?
I just got approval to deploy puppet to about 1500 Macs! Now I have to
actually do it.
I''m considering two options. We have a security tool we use that is a
Mac application and is already installed on all our Macs. Since it''s a
Mac app, it''s basically a folder (a .app folder). I''m wondering if I
can just install puppet into the .app directory, that way

plist file?
Hi all,
I am running R.app on Mac OS X 10.4. I am trying to figure
out if there is a .plist file of some sort, or a similar
parameter file, that will let me turn on and off e.g.
line-wrapping in the R.app GUI console.
The only hint I could find online is this:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-sig-mac/2010-April/007264.html
...but it doesn't seem to specify where to find the file in

custom package provider troubles
I have written a custom package provider for the pkgutil utility on
Solaris 10. Pkgutil replaces pkg-get which is not deprecated. All I
did was modify the Blastwave provider to use pkgutil instead of pkg-
get. I''ve tried two approaches to get the provider on to the client.
First, I created a plugin. I created a module called package to
contain the plugin. The only file in

Extending the storeconfigs database
I''m adding tables to the storeconfigs database, to support my
storereports plugin, and would like some guidance on handling the
schema version.
First prize would see my database extensions applied as migrations.
But then ActiveRecord would want to bump the schema version.
Any ideas on how to handle this gracefully so that I don''t confuse the
hell out of puppet itself, on

AuthorizedKeysCommand question
Hi,
is there a particular reason why this feature is "user" based and not
"user-pubkey" based?
What I mean is that it works for installation with small number of pubkeys
per user.
But imagine i.e. a GitHub scale - all users logging in as user "git". On
each auth request all the keys from database would be fetched and feeded to
OpenSSH.
Now I am only asking this out

Compile catalog time: 2.6 vs 2.7.X
Hi all,
I''m in the procedure of migrating my old puppet server
(puppet-2.6.14-1.el5) with mongrel to a new one
(puppet-2.7.14-1.el6.noarch) with passenger.
I''m facing a really strange behaviour with the catalog compilation
time. I''ve 3 servers:

Refresh not working with launchd service provider?
Hi,
Refresh doesn''t seem to be working with the launched service provider on OS X Lion (10.7.4).
I''ve come up with a simple "service" script, plist file and puppet script to apply to demonstrate. The problem.
Here''s the shell script which logs an initial starting message and then just loops logging a "Still running…" message.

BH correction with p.adjust
Dear List,
I have been trying to use p.adjust() to do BH multiple test correction and have gotten some unexpected results. I thought that the equation for this was:
pBH = p*n/i
where p is the original p value, n is the number of tests and i is the rank of the p value. However when I try and recreate the corrected p from my most significant value it does not match up to the one computed by the
