Greetings All- I'm about to embark on some remote management testing and need a way to login to a remote system running CentOS 4.x/5.x via SSH, su to root (using a password), then execute a command. I currently login to the boxes using key based SSH like this: ssh -i ~/remote_key admin@$REMOTEIP Then, I SU to root. However, if I try to do this automatically like this: ssh -i ~/remote_key

Dovecot proxy/director and mail pop3/imap backend service on same server
Hi all, I am interested in running a Dovecot Proxy(with Director) on the same server as the main Dovecot IMAP/POP3 service. I have a basic Proxy/Director configuration working, however I am struggling with getting the Proxy and IMAP/POP3 service to coexist on the same server. I plan to use three IMAP/POP3 servers with a NFS/maildir backend, and I am playing with Dovecot 2.1.5 at the moment. I

bug in su (Slackware 3.4)
If sulog file logging is enabled in /etc/login.defs (shadowing installed!) and su has never been used, a user can set his umask to 0 and then run su. /var/log/sulog will then be created mode 666, which means user can use su to try lots of passwords and then, when done, do something like cat /dev/null > /var/log/sulog and clear out the logfile. Same goes for sudo. Note: everything will still be

Samba with nss/winbind AD authentication breaks su and passwd update
I've built Samba 3.0.10 with Kerb ADS, NSS, Winbind and PAM support on Solaris 9 using gcc 3.3.2. I'm able to compile and install and authentication works fine - I can query and authenticate with AD, but when I su, passwd or some other local auth Solaris command I get the command core dumps or just fails. nsswitch.conf: passwd: files winbind ldap group: files winbind ldap

Local Management via su or ssh ?
ssh could give us: 1/ Centrally managed keys and access 2/ No more user accounts in wheel groups lying around various systems 3/ Standard tracking with logging to a server via syslogd. 4/ Passwords managed centrally via pass phrases instead of passwords on every machine. As far as not using root is concerned, all for it, but I am just trying to get some sort of control over root now. sudo etc
