Best practices for building a file from distributed data.
G''day. I am wondering what the current best practice for building a single file out of distributed fragments is with puppet. Specifically, my problem: 1. Install munin-node on arbitrary machines. 2. Install ''munin.conf'' as a single file on one machine, containing a configuration stanza for every machine that munin-node is installed on. The current best practice

Problem with puppet-concat
Hi I am developing a module to create a simple nas for my work and I am using the concat module to assemble /etc/exports and /etc/samba/smb.conf. I developed my module on my puppet development server and concat worked like a charm, however when I rolled it out to my live servers if kept on failing with the following error: err: Failed to apply catalog: Could not find dependent

Concat::Fragment collection broken in 2.7.5
I don''t if anybody is using the concat modules from ripienaar, but since an upgrade to 2.7.5 I keep getting an error on fragment collection. The code is like below: @@concat::fragment{ "${name}" : target => "/etc/bind/named.conf.keys", content => template("dns/named.conf.keys.erb"), order => 10, tag =>

Array being flattened
Hello All, I''ve run into an issue where an array that''s being passed into a defined type is being "flattened" when it''s inclosed in double quotes and I''m not sure how to get around this. This is happening a the pdxcat/amanda module and I''ve raised an github issues for this but wanted to query the community as a whole. The issue and my branch

puppet-module-apache
Hey all, I''ve open-sources Digg''s apache module: http://github.com/plathrop/puppet-module-apache I know this isn''t much more advanced than what I''ve seen a lot of people using. Here''s my proposition, though. Let''s get all the disparate "apache" modules out there merged together into One Awesome Module. What do you think? One module

Multiple definitions
Apparently I''m missing how information comes in from different places to one destination, or something. The current case is a simple one; I want to define everything about the firewall in one place, *except* the source of the /etc/sysconfig/ iptables file (which will be system-specific). Apparently I can''t just set that attribute of that file resource in the node statement,

New user - Issue using Generic::Mkuser in the ghoneycutt/generic module.
I''m trying to automatically create users as a requirement for ssh keys to work. Here is my issue. I am getting this error from the agent. The SSH part works fine, but it will not create the user due to a dependency issue. I do not know how to debug this. err: Could not run Puppet configuration client: Could not find dependency Generic::Mkuser[hadoop] for Ssh::Authorized_keys[hadoop] at

Why is it so hard to make a sane nagios server config?
I''ve tried to achieve my overall goals with several different features of Puppet, but I''ve hit a bit of a wall here. I think it''s time for me to explain what I''m trying to accomplish: I want the enabling of a service in my manifests to configure the monitoring of that service by a nagios server, without needless repetition. Let me explain how my

A few quick fragment cache questions
Doing some reading up on fragment cache before implmenting it and had a few questions: 1.) I read that page and action caching have issues or don''t work at all with query strings (more so with page caching). Does fragment caching work with query strings? i.e something like example.com/foo/bar?page=2 2.) If the above is true and I have an authentication system built into my app, if 2

Fragment Cache Wackiness
I can''t seem to get the fragment cache to use :file_store. I''d really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Rails 1.1 final, FreeBSD Observe: In environment.rb AND production.rb (for good measure, DRY be damned): ActionController::Base.fragment_cache_store = :file_store, "/www/apps/localfeeds/directory/tmp/fragmentcache/" At the console

File-based Distribution, Module Function Logic and Per Setting (Augeas); Which method do you think is best for the env i help to support and why?
I am having a difficult time understanding and determining which module method is best for the env I help to support. Overview of systems supported: -There are 17+ clients. -4+ envs (dev, stage, beta, prod ..) per client -Several flavors and versions of OS ( Mostly fedora and centos ) -All are apache, some mongrel and most passenger -code deployments are capistrano -configurations are done with

Cipher is not a module
Hi, I''m trying to install puppet as a client on a new machine. I received this weird error when trying to start up as /etc/init.d/ puppet start : /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/openssl/cipher.rb:22: Cipher is not a module (TypeError) from /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb: 36:in `gem_original_require'' from

Is anyone managing Glassfish configuration with puppet?
Has anyone found a clean way to manage Glassfish configuration with puppet? Glassfish was designed to be managed through a WebUI or a CLI tool known as asadmin. Making changes using these tools modifies a domain.xml file. Glassfish reads and writes this file every time it restarts, even if the contents are the same, which changes the timestamp. I believe this can be addressed by setting puppet

[PATCH net] xen-netback: fix fragment detection in checksum setup
The code to detect fragments in checksum_setup() was missing for IPv4 and too eager for IPv6. (It transpires that Windows seems to send IPv6 packets with a fragment header even if they are not a fragment - i.e. offset is zero, and M bit is not set). Accumulating values
Greetings I''m searching for an elegant way to contribute lines to an SNMP configuration file from resources scattered throughout a given system''s catalog, such that from anywhere, the SNMP configuration file can be arbitrarily extended like this: $snmp::lines += "proxy -m ${mib_file} -v 2c -c ${snmp_community} localhost:1161 .1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.145" Forgive me if

NGINX Puppet Module: Looking for Feedback/Use Cases
Hello everyone, I''m currently working on a module for NGINX that I''d love to get some input on. Code can be found here: http://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-nginx. This module is currently in development - it supports a few use cases: * Create a vhost * Create multiple location references for a vhost * Create Proxy Upstream references to be used by Nginx * Allow
