sshd doesn't log hostname into utmp correctly [resend]
Hi,
Though I sent this message before, I didn't get any response. So, I
send this message, again.
This problem is occur when the connection is form IPv6, and IPv4 is
not affected.
openssh-3.4p1 doesn't handle actual size of struct sockaddr correctly,
and does copy it as long as just size of struct sockaddr. So, sshd

pam and sasl2-sample-server failure
I'm setting up a postfix server using "The Book of Postfix". In ch 15
there is a section on testing saslauthd which I can't get to work. I
can get it to work using shadow password authentication, but it fails
on pam. I don't kow squat about troubleshooting pam. Any PAM wizzes
out there that can help? I saw a unrelated post talking about
something needing to be in the pam

but no IP adress is assigned to tun0 interface. Anyone succesful in
IPv6 over dial-up PPP connection? When I manually assign IPv6 address,
connection works. My system is

[OT] Postfix sasl authentication help
Dear all,
Would need some of your advise.
As I was the trying to get postfix sasl working with samba AD.
I've try to search online for a few examples some use ldap, kerberos or pam.
I'm using winbind on that system and I wonder if we can use winbind with sasl.
Or anyone have a more correct on how it should be done.
My existing setup was working with ldap before moving to samba4.

Sendmail not presenting AUTH option after EHLO
Hello folks,
I have a CentOS 6.4 installation running Sendmail, and after some serious hair tear stare and compare I'm a bit stumped. When I connect to the server either with telnet or SSL, sendmail is not presenting the AUTH capability after an EHLO. Everything looks like it should be working, but no amount of tweaking is getting the AUTH capability advertised (and it doesn't work if

Postfix+sasl Outlook problem.
I have mail server on CentOS 4.1. Sasl authorization for SMTP is
enabled. Thunderbird sends mail, but Outlook get an error 554, Relay
access denied, error number 0x800CCC79
Outlook has a login and password for SMTP enabled.
It is strange, because there is no any sign of authorize in maillog when
Outlook try to send mail.

Why is dovecot involved in my smtp process
I've been trying to get smtp auth set up for days. All my sendmail and
sasl2 stuff seems to be proper, but the user can't use the system on
port 587, which is where I require authorization.
Now I see where messages are in my maillog of the type:
auth: pam_unix(dovecot:auth) : authentication failure ........
Why is dovecot involved in my smtp processes and how do I fix this. I've

FreeBSD-Update + Sendmail
I have been updating my FreeBSD systems for many years by updating and
building from source. For the FreeBSD 9.2 cycle, I decided to use
freebsd-update for binary update instead. I use Sendmail + Cyrus-SASL and
the freebsd-update process only installed a 'bare bones' binary. How do I
compile just Sendmail from source so that it uses my /etc/make.conf for the
smtp_auth components?

SMTP auth with Sendmail
Dear All,
I have two machines, a Centos 3.4 machine and a Centos 4.1 machine.
I have used the same sendmail.mc file on each, and 3.4 machine does
plain SMTP auth with no problems, compiling the same mc file on the 4.1
machine gives this error:

Using dovecot sasl for authenticating in openldap
Hi,
I am using dovecot imaps and exim, both authenticating using dovecot-sasl. To keep passwords in one place I would like
to authenticate openldap users over dovecot-sasl.
So looking at this page:
http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/security.html
I figure it could be done using Pass-Through authentication.
For this, I need to create
/usr/lib/sasl2/slapd.conf
And adding a few config

acceptable SASL mechanisms/can libvirt authenticate against PAM
I was playing with SASL authentication a bit today and I wasn't able
to get libvirt to authenticate against PAM (or anything else except
the sasldb, although I didn't try Kerberos). Does anybody know off
the top of their head what mechanisms/password check options work?
I'm trying to figure out if I'm attempting the impossible.

Samba and Heimdal Kerberos V Authentication
Hello,
I maintain a network of numerous Linux workstations, several Apples,
and a few Windows machines. The Apples and Windows XP machines already
grab shared data via Samba and the remaining data is exported to the
Linux machines via NFS.
I am in the process of migrating the existing authentication system
from XYZ123 to Kerberos and going to place user data---with the
exception of passwords
