Best Practice: how to organize puppetmaster directories?
Hi, While puppet creates its own directories for internal stuff (puppetca, state, etc.), there''s a fair bit of latitude given to where things like manifests and uploaded files live. I didn''t get much guidance from the docs when I first set things up so I mostly poked at things until the worked. Take a look at the following and let me know if this looks reasonable; if so, it

config question for proxyarp hosts?
I''ve got a serious mess of NAT on our firewall/router systems at the corporate office which seems to do nothing other than confuse the heck out of people. What I''d like to do is gradually migrate the hosts on the various DMZ networks away from private IP addresses and NAT over to public IP addresses and proxyarp. What I''m wondering, before I start this, is how do I

Could not call fileserver.describe: #<Errno:: ECONNRESET: Connection reset by peer>
Hello there I''m having this error: Could not call fileserver.describe: #<Errno:: ECONNRESET: Connection reset by peer> From what i can tell, eventually the master decides it has had enough and freezes. I''ve got about 25 hosts checking in to it, but restarting the master daemon appears to be only a partial solution with the clients occasionally not being able to then

running and configuring puppetd as a daemon at a set time
Hello All I gather that the number of times the daemon checks in is controlled via runinterval (default 1800 seconds) Further, splay (and splaylimit) sets if a pseudo random time is used before checking in. BUT does splay have any meaning if i can not set when the daemon should attempt to check in? Or can i set the check-in time (i may have just missed the option)? cheers chakkerz

I'm attaching a patchset here that includes the transparent cube patches (i'll post the 3d plugin when i fix some problems that didn't happen in beryl). Patching order: btf-ftb.patch, clip-planes.patch, plugin-events.patch, cube-paint-order.patch, transparent-cube.patch. Special

veto dotfiles but not directory?
I've been playing around a little bit with the "veto files" option for the [homes] shares we have on our Samba servers (2.2.1a & 2.2.3a). I've discovered that: veto files = /.*/ works marvelously for not letting the users muck with their .dotfiles, which is exactly what we want, however, I've also discovered that it also clobbers the special directory entries

file type not autorequiring parent directories.
If I use the ''file'' type to sync a file where the parent directory doesn''t exist the sync fails. According to the puppet docs "Puppet will autorequire any parent directories that are being managed". Am i missing something? Problems with the voice quality under load
B.H. Hello, all :-) We have a cluster of Asterisk (v. 11.9) servers that host IVR applications. The servers work behind SIP proxy (kamailio) for load balancing. All servers are in 2 processor configuration, 8-10 cores per CPU. When a particular server gets about 500 concurrent calls, the sound quality begins to degrade, the sound plays slowly and with clicks. As far as i understand, it's

Module question: resources evaluated once or repeatedly?
I''ve been working up my first puppet module, one that will make Amanda configurations consistently. In general, I''d like the following to happen: - Each Amanda server should make sure all its holding disks are configured properly; this should only happen once per server, per puppetd run. Definitely not on a per-configuration basis. - Each Amanda server should keep its

Can a guest LDOM discover the identity of the host system?
That is...is there a mechanism provided to do this? As an afterthought, this also applies to non-global zones, although one can stick something in the oem-banner eeprom variable that is identically visible on all the zones, which is not the case on LDOMs. However, that''s not a supported mechanism. Having something that was would be better. Ideal if the same mechanism (on what might or

Big Brother with Shorewall loc dmz zones?
How would I use Big Brother with Shorewall and my loc and dmz zones to monitor hosts in both zones? If Big Brother''s server is on my LAN (loc) is it "safe" to forward the bb port from the dmz to the LAN? What would the security risks of this be? Common sense says that it may not be a good idea to forward stuff from the dmz to the LAN, but I''m inexperienced and unsure

routing via uplink based on source lan?
I''ve got a rather complex beast of a network that I''ve beeing trying to get properly routed for some time now. I''ve come really close, in that inbound traffic gets where it''s supposed to, and outbound traffic goes where it''s supposed to, but outbound packets are all apparently going over the wrong link. The system is currently configured as a

Downloading a file into a directory that does not exist
