Puppet client dying without errors
Few of my puppet clients (puppet 0.24.8, ruby 1.8.5, facter 1.5.2) are dying with out any error messages on on syslog. I cannot see much system resource usage on these nodes. What is the best way to troubleshoot the root cause of the problem? -Basil -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. I am trying to get puppet to manage my LDAP users but I don''t appear to be having much success. What I have in puppet.conf is this [puppetmasterd] ldapserver=ldap.myorg.company.com ldapbase=dc=myorg,dc=org ldapuser=cn=admin,dc=myorg,dc=org ldappassword=mysecret ldapparentattr=dc=myorg,dc=org I added the ldapparentattr in desperation and doubt if

package: ignores "source"; "provider" doesn''t work as advertised?
Hi I¹m not sure if I¹m misunderstanding, however, when I try the following: class thttpd { package { thttpd: version => "2.25b-4.2", source => "http://dag.wieers.com/packages/thttpd/thttpd-2.25b-4.2.el4.rf.i386.rpm" } [snip other code] } On fedora core 5, the ³source² is ignored: yum is used to pull the package from the upstream repos listed in

Calling a "subclass" correctly in a node def?
Hi Guys! I played with this a bit and perused the Puppet3 docs, and tried a few different ways of calling the module with no joy before giving in and posting. I''m kind of new to all this so bear with me. *Goal of module* Singular module to hold both a mysql (client) and mysql-server class. Module default would be ''mysql'', or for mysql-servers we''ll call

forcing user resource provider to be local files only?
I see that there are an assorted bunch of "provider" types for resource type user. Are there not any "local file" providers for it? I have need of ensuring that certain local user accounts get created on all machines, reguardless of what the system "/bin/password" and "useradd" type mechanisms are set to. It would be really nice to find a pre-written

nsswitch.conf, ldap, local groups problem
I'm using CentOS 5.0,5.1, and 5.2 on several systems where I'm seeing this problem. Hello, I'm seeing a weird problem that perhaps someone has run into with groups. First, a little background. I was made aware of a problem with CentOS 5 where if the nscd password cache is clear and someone tries to log in if there is no network connection with an LDAP account that it just

Workstations and Certs
I am trying to come up with a workable solution in managing numerous Mac workstations allowing a high degree of flexibility with regards to certs. My puppet environment is setup to application installation on machines that have been ''imaged'' with a base OS and the puppet and facter apps. So, when a Mac is ''imaged'' and subsequently re-booted, puppet is run at

London (UK) Puppet Meetup 24th March (UKUUG social)
Various people have said they are going to UKUUG and I wanted to remind people if they are about and want to discuss puppet, facter, etc they can come along. Entry is not restricted to UKUUG attendees, I''ll try and make myself obvious by having some puppet related paraphenalia. http://www.ukuug.org/events/spring2009/social/ Paul --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~

Hi, I''ve been using puppet for about a week and a half now, and it''s definitely making my life a lot easier. I''m using 0.24.1 and I''ve run into a small snag. I''m trying to write some code to make sure user home directories exist for users in LDAP. I''m trying to get their uid, gid and home directory from getent with something like: $uid =

Input sought on changing default vardir on OS X.
0.25.5 changed the default vardir from /var/puppet to /var/lib/puppet and it''s caused the odd issue we have to fix in the Mac pkg preflights. After re-reading ''man hier'' I''m tempted to change the default on OS X to: /var/db/puppet instead. /var/ multi-purpose log, temporary, transient, and spool files ...

hasstatus return code
Dear community, I use puppet to deploy iptables on every server. This is working fine. In the manifest I defined an iptables service which leads to my init script. The thing is each time I run puppet I got : notice: /Stage[main]/Iptables/Service[netfilter]/ensure: ensure changed ''stopped'' to ''running'' I would like to add a status command to my startup script
