mdadm --create on Centos5?
Is there some new trick to making raid devices on Centos5?
# mdadm --create /dev/md3 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdc1
mdadm: error opening /dev/md3: No such file or directory
I thought that worked on earlier versions. Do I have to do something
udev related first?

CentOS5 pam_mkhomedir
I have a problem creating homedirs on the fly. Since RHEL5 / CentOS5 you have to
use pam_oddjob_mkhomedir instead of pam_mkhomedir.
Everything is working (the homedir is created) but two things.
First on every logon I get the following error message, and I don't know how to
fix it:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.redhat.oddjob was not
provided by any .service files

OT: a very big problem with ipsec-tools on CentOS5 (SOLVED)
Buf ... Solved. Problem was that /etc/pam.d/racoon doesn't exists (I found this
tip on NetBSD ipsec pages). Simply I have copied /etc/pam.d/passwd to
/etc/pam.d/racoon and now all works as expected.
Many thanks for your help Ross.

slow sendmail going out
I am trying to find a way to "speed" up sendmail going out of my box.
I am setting SMART_HOST. Dont get me wrong email does go out it just takes
like 3-4 minutes to get there.
When I do "mail xxxx at y.com" and send it the /var/log/maillog file shows
the connection and shows the relay as [127.0.0.1]. Then it just SITS
there for a long time.
Then it picks up the mail and

how do I manage a Dell PE 860 server via IPMI?
Hi all
I'm trying to get to grips with this one, but just can't figure it out.
I recently acquired some 2nd hand Dell Poweredge 860 servers, and
noticed that they have built in remote management interfaces. So, I have
setup one, and assigned an IP address to it, but have no idea on how to
access it remotely. Google'ing for an answer didn't bring me more than

mac: lib/gtk.pkg
Hello,
I'm sorry to just pop-up on the mailing list like this and ask a relatively non-R related question but I had no idea whom else to contact on this matter.
I'm working on a completely different port of an application to OS X which requires GTK and through Google'ing stumbled on a rather recent GTK installer for Mac at: http://r.research.att.com/
I was wondering if anyone here

Samba ADS domain member issues
Hi, I am having problems configuring my Centos 4 server as an ADS domain
member of our 2003 AD. I've followed the instructions on samba.org and
did quite a bit of Google'ing and haven't found an answer to the problems.
Basically I used the configuration illustrated in this section of the
howto, and of course a number of other suggestions I've found along the way:

Webcam under wine
Hi,
I recently installed a webcam under Linux, and I'd like to use it with
wine. I'd like to test x-lite with this webcam, but I have no idea how
to make it see my webcam. I tried in winecfg, but it doesn't seem to
contain anything related to the webcam.
I searched on internet, but only found some doc about msn messenger.
Apparently, it's kind of a hack, not a way to make the

I have a 32bit(PAE) CentOS5 machine running (stock CentOS) Xen. I've
been using the kernel dummy ethernet driver to create interfaces on the
host machine so that I can create internal networks for the guests and
host to communicate with each other. The only issue I have with this is
that the interface is not >=100MB, but is 10MB.
Is there a way I can increase the speed of these
