exact difference between RELENG_4, RELENG_4_5 . . . RELENG_4_8
Read the documentation on the meaning of the various 4.X tags, and am not sure what is meant by this: "The release branch for FreeBSD-4.6 and FreeBSD-4.6.2, used only for security advisories and other seriously critical fixes." Similar descriptions are used for the other RELENG_4_X tags. If I specify RELENG_4 will cvsup also include RELENG_4_3 to RELENG_4_8? Sorry folks - I'm

4.8R and $FreeBSD$ version tag expansion
I noticed that there were quite a few files with version ids of '$FreeBSD$' when I ran mergemaster after an install of 4.8R. This isn't right is it? What are the consequences of installing over your files with unexpanded version ids? I would like to build a release(make release) and want to know if I can continue or if this is going to be a problem for future

Updating from 4.8 release to 4.8 stable
Hello, I am very new to FreeBSD and just installed 4.8 release. I want to upgrade this to stable. I have printed some of the pages out for makeworld and CVSUP, I am wondering what the best method for doing the updates are, downloading the individual packages and installing or using the CVSUP to do this? Currently I used mostly Red Hat Linux but have wanted to give this a try for some time

freebsd-update to 6.4-RELEASE doesn't work
Dear list, I cannot upgrade my 6.3-RELEASE-p7/i386 to 6.4-RELEASE with freebsd-update. I have run: # freebsd-update upgrade -r 6.4-RELEASE and then # freebsd-update install No updates are available to install. Run '/usr/sbin/freebsd-update fetch' first. any ideas? (btw: I've successful updated 6.3REL/amd64 to 6.4-REL) Best regards, Thomas.

Strange problem with "make clean"
Hello, I'm experiencing a weird problem doing "make clean" in "/usr/src". It happens on a couple of FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE machines (RELENG_4_8 to be precise). Cvsup, build & install phases all went fine, just "make clean" went wrong. I tried rm-ing the incriminated subdirectory and even rm-ing the checkout.cvs:RELENG_4_8 file and re-cvsupping but nothing

Tracking 4-stable rather than 4.8-stable
Hi, I would like to follow 4-stable on my FreeBSD box, and i can't fetch binaries from /stand/sysinstall. Can anyone help me? Here is how i did: 1) I installed 4.8-RELEASE from CD, 2) I used cvsup to upgrade. For this i used the stable-supfile as shown in the Handbook. => My OS version as shown by 'uname -a' and '/stand/sysinstall' is "4.8-STABLE". It

Heads up: New if_xl committed
As promised, the updated if_xl with full busdma support / other improvements has been MFC'd to 4.8-stable. While I have put this driver through extensive testing, it is possible that there may be bugs which are either present in the -current version or that I added in the MFC process. So, if you cvsup to -stable anytime in the future and notice problems with if_xl, please tell me ASAP!

FreeBSD Patch question
I administer a remote server and want to apply some of the security patches. (I assume this is the best way to go since I can't go into single-user mode to use CVsup). I have a couple of questions. First, I have installed one of the pgp ports to verify the patches. When I run it, I get this message: > File 'buffer46.patch.asc' has signature, but with no text. > Text is

yes unless you use the version as of :> 2004-03-02 17:24:46 UTC (RELENG_5_2, 5.2.1-RELEASE-p1) check it out with uname -a if it does not say -p1 it affects you. My guess, you are affected :) cheers -- Kind regards, Remko Lodder Elvandar.org/DSINet.org www.mostly-harmless.nl Dutch community for helping newcomers on the hackerscene -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van:

Own R function doubt
Hi to all the people again, I was writting a simply function in R, and wish to collect the results in a excel file.
