using lpadmin to add printers in CentOS 7 (v. CentOS 6)
In CentOS 6, I could do: lpinfo -m then pick the model I want and put it as the option to -m in lpadmin (line wrapped): /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p printer -o printer-is-shared=false -o Duplex=None -o Resolution=600dpi -m 'gutenprint.5.2://pcl-g_5e/expert Generic PCL 5e Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.5' -v 'socket://mydomain.edu' Alas, in CentOS 7, no matter what I do, I always get:

frustrating - which ppd for win clients
I have had terrible luck trying to find a ppd that works correctly for both win9x clients and winNT/2000/XP at the same time. The CUPS method is to find one ppd that works for all and I have tried several: those at linuxprinting.org, hp's sourceforge site, vendor winNT ppds (docs suggest these), and vendor win98 ppds. I have tried filtering PJL and not filtering PJL. I have the stock

can't create printers after upgrading cups
After upgrading cups on my CentOS 6 systems from version 1.4.2-72.el6 to 1.4.2-77.el6, I am no longer able to create working printers, either with lpadmin from the command line or with system-config-printer. When I try to run lpadmin, I get this simple error: [root at vlsi66 ~]# lpadmin -p newprinter -v lpd://printserver/serverqueue-E -P /path/to/ppd/thing.ppd lpadmin: Unknown [root at vlsi66

After 4.6 update: CUPS (via Samba): "'/printers/printers' no good!"
Since updating from 4.5 to 4.6 yesterday, I am getting a lot of CUPS errors. The error.log file is filling up with these messages: get_printer_attrs: resource name '/printers/printers' no good! And the access.log seems to be being polled often too, even in the absence of any print jobs submitted. On my network the CUPS-handled printer is exported from Samba. Given that the Samba

RH9, Samba 2.2.8a and printing with CUPS
Hi there I just installed the above mentioned system and try to print from a W2k box to the Samba box but nothing happens. There's no problem in printing from the RH box or via Webmin but when I try to print from the W2k box nothing happens. I don't get an error or anything. I installed the printer by the help of the add printer tool in RH, and simply go to the Printer--->Add

Wide open (security = share) w/ printers including driver download success story
Hi- I wanted to share my experience w/ the list in getting a completely wide open file and printer (w/ automagic driver download) with security = share setup working. My requirement was to setup a server for a small office of XP boxes w/ file and printer sharing and had always done samba as domain controller w/ full logons etc. No need for any security in this setup and I wanted to have the

Push install printers from a samba server
Hi there. I was wondering if anyone had a link to a good tutorial (or docs) in regards to setting up a push install of printers (HP 4200N) from a samba server (CentOS 4) to a mixed windows (98,2k,xp) enviorment. Now I have been investigating using a BAT file in a logon script, but the results seem to be unpredictable (maybe i am usign them wrong?). Then permissions on the target machine seem to be

Samba ignores printer options when printing via CUPS
Hi all, I'm having a few problems getting samba to pass along settings for various print options for all of our printers. Printers are set up using PPDs in CUPS, added to samba via the cupsaddsmb command and then added to windows clients via point and print. Unfortunately any print jobs sent from windows appear to completely ignore many of the CUPS settings such as duplex and print

WIN40 printer driver on Solaris not being installed?
I am having problems with the driver installation for WIN40 (9x machines) in Samba 2.2.5 / Samba 2.2.6pre2 on a Solaris 8 machine. I build binary packages for both debian and solaris environments. For debian 2.2.5, I use the 2.2.5 source with the printing patch provided by Jerry Carter. I use the packaging/Debian/debian systems to build and package the source. For Solaris I use the

Access denied when printing to Samba printers
Howdy all, I'm setting up a print server machine to serve hosts in an Active Directory domain. Debian GNU/Linux ("sarge", current testing branch), Samba 3.0.0beta2-1. Success so far: - All steps in the current DIAGNOSIS document <http://au1.samba.org/samba/devel/docs/html/diagnosis.html> - Sharing printer drivers from the [print$] share (yay!) - Connecting to the

samba, cups and cupsaddsmb
Hallo, I have an old samba-cups printserver (debian woody), connected to the domain through winbind,?that I must replace now. I installed a new samba-cups server on a sarge machine. Windbind works, I can get all users and groups. I copied the generic windows postscript driver files as in cupsaddsmb-manpage described to /usr/share/cups/drivers (tried also adobe drivers) Also tried the same
