ensure => latest forcing recompile?
I''m running puppet from svn - build 2537. I''ve got a functional
configuration and am testing it on a couple of development machines
prior to moving it into production. I noticed today that the machines
are taking ~300 seconds to process their configurations, so i watched a
run and saw that it''s recompiling all of the Packages every single time.

Using tags in case/if statements
Can anyone provide me with an example of using tag values in case or
if/else statements in classes?
In a discussion about a month ago, Luke suggested using tags is
preferable to "if defined" and I''m just wondering how to do this.
Cheers,
James

So I''m still working on a ''perfect'' setup so I can document it on the wiki,
and will submit some puppet patches against 0.23.2 next week, but here''s
what I''ve done that has made a big difference to stability here.

Modules design patterns ?
Hi,
I''m writing puppet modules since a couple of weeks now, so I''m still
considering myself as a new comer in this field.
It seems that modules I can find on the web or the recipe page on the
wiki almost all use a design pattern where the module is shipped in one
or several class(es) whose configuration are determined by "global" or
nodes variables ala:

Storeconfigs purge Perl
Here''s some happy-fun Perl to make your storeconfig/virtual resources day better. I probably should have written this in Ruby, but perl comes naturally :)
#!/usr/bin/perl
#
# Perl DBI to remove all related entries from Puppet''s storeconfigs database.
# Use when a host is removed from the Puppet network forcibly
# Alternatives: run puppet on host to be removed with a blank

Moving a file with Puppet
I wanted to move a file from one directory to another because my co-
worker didn''t like where it was being put by puppet. I went into
puppet and changed the name parameter of the the file directive. I
then created a new file directive to delete the old file, but I was
wondering if there was a better way to do this.
So, just to clarify, I went from:
file {"myfile":

If/else issues.
Can some one point out to me what I am missing? I suspect I have
messed up the if/else some how. I am getting a ''

According to the Language tutorial this should be correct. I am

Installing a file only if a package is available
Hi,
is there a way to make sure a file is installed only if a certain
package is installed on the client?
e.g. I want to distribute the client key for NX via puppet. However I
only want to install these files if package ''freenx'' is installed on the
client.
I tried adding ''require => package["freenx"]'' but then puppetd complains

RFC: ssh-copy-id tweaks
I'd like to propose a couple of tweaks to ssh-copy-id:
o Change the default ID_FILE from identity.pub to id_dsa.pub or perhaps
{id_dsa,id_rsa,identity}.pub to cover all the bases, although the
patch below deals only with id_dsa.pub - it would need some more
tweaking to deal with more than one (possibly non-existent) file.
o If the destination authorized_keys file already contains the

Display file problem with PXELINUX
Hi All,
I am having trouble with pxelinux display file not calling the correct name to
retrieve the graphic image. I guess the filename length is determained
the first time ^X is used, and doesnt re-size the field name on next call.
For example when cycling through F1 - F2 - F3
the f1 image displays fine, and its the longer name
f2 & f3 just display the text and no image, output from

weird behaviour of commands option : bug or not ?
Hello
I think I've found a bug but since no one replied to me on comp.security.ssh,
I'll try my luck here.
On my client, PreferredAuthentications is set to publickey, password.
When using the commands option in authorized_keys file like
command="ls" ssh-dss <key>... it is supposed to connect using the private key
associated with <key>, perform ls and then quits.

Support for here documents with sftp client in OpenSSH 2.5.1p 1-1 (RH Linux 6.2 [2.2.x kernel])
Damien,
I was going down the path of public key authentication when I encountered
problems. I've been discussing it off-line using the simple example of
creating a key pair with no passphrase for an account on "myserver", then
trying to connect to myserver using the "ssh -i id_dsa myserver" command.
It's not working, so we're debugging now (see below). If you
