Trouble embedding functions (e.g., deltaMethod) in other functions
Dear R community, I've been writing simple functions for the past year and half and have come across a similar problem several times. The execution of a function within my own function produces NaN's or fails to execute as intended. My conundrum is that I can execute the function outside of my function without error, so it's difficult for me, as a novice functioneer, to figure out

Glm and user defined variance functions
Hi, I am trying to run a generalized linear regression using a negative binomial error distribution. However, I want to use an overdispersion parameter that varies (dependent on the length of a stretch of road) so glm.nb will not do. >From what I've read I should be able to do this using GLM by specifying my own quasi family and describing the variance function using varfun, validmu,

Clarks 2Dt function in R
Dear Ben, you answerd to Nancy Shackelford about Clarks 2Dt function. Since the thread ended just after your reply, I would like to ask, if you have an idea how to use this function in R I defined it the following way: function(x , p, u) { (p/(pi*u))*(1+(x^2/u))^(p+1) } and would like to fit this one to my obeservational data (count) [,1] [,2] [1,] 15 12 [2,] 45 13 [3,]

nls - can't get published AICc and parameters
Hi I'm trying to replicate Smith et al.'s (http://www.sciencemag.org/content/330/6008/1216.abstract) findings by fitting their Gompertz and logistic models to their data (given in their supplement). I'm doing this as I want to then apply the equations to my own data. Try as a might, I can't quite replicate them. Any thoughts why are much appreciated. I've tried contacting the

R Error/Warning Messages with library(MASS) using glm.
Hi there, I have been having trouble running negative binomial regression (glm.nb) using library MASS in R v2.15.0 on Mac OSX. I am running multiple models on the variables influencing the group size of damselfish in coral reefs (count data). For total group size and two of my species, glm.nb is working great to deal with overdispersion in my count data. For two of my species, I am getting a

[LLVMdev] problem trying to write an LLVM register-allocation pass
Hi Susan, In x86-64 the REX prefix must be used to access an extended register (r8-r15 and their aliases), but cannot be used when accessing the high byte of the ABCD regs (AH, BH, CH, DH). In your test case you have hardcoded %vreg1 to R8B, and %vreg15 to AH, and the test case contains a copy between these registers. The copy simultaneously must have a REX prefix, and cannot have a REX prefix,

Two 3D cones in one graph
Dear R-users: The following code produces two cones in two panels. What I would like to have is to have them in one, and to meet in the origin. Does anyone have any good ideas how to do this? Thanks for your help Jaakko library(lattice) A<-matrix(ncol=2, nrow=64) for(i in 0:63) { A[i+1,1]<-sin(i/10) A[i+1,2]<-cos(i/10) }

shapes in rgl
Does anyone have a way of producing solid shapes other than spheres in rgl? I am using rgl to produce a simple visualisation of a forest model results using "lollipops". Its just a bit of fun, but as many of the trees are pines I would like to depict their crowns as cones. If there is a solution I need it to work under windows. Here is the example. library(rgl) library(misc3d)

Rgl
Dear r users, I have two kinds of data I'm trying to represent in Rgl. The first are measurements of soils: heights, diameters, and centerpoints of each. I would typically represent these in 3d space as cylinders or cones. The second are radar data of the area under the solids , xyz plus amplitude that I would like to represent as a point cloud. Is there a currently implemented method to

drawing arrows with rgl
Hi, I am looking for a package which allows me to draw arrows (cylinders with cones on them, basically) in 3d images produced with rgl. Is such a thing available? I did notice the 'compositions' package, which contains 'arrow3D'. However, it relies on 'tensorA', which fails to install on my machine with the error message copied below. If anyone can help me fix this

problems with optim, "for"-loops and machine precision
Dear R experts, I have been encountering problems with the "optim" routine using "for" loops. I am determining the optimal parameters of several nested models by minimizing the negative Log-Likelihood (NLL) of a dataset. The aim is to find the model which best describes the data. To this end, I am simulating artificial data sets based on the model with the least number

Testing wanted: OpenSSH 4.8
Hi, We are preparing to make the release of OpenSSH 4.8 soon, so we would greatly appreciate testing of snapshot releases in as many environments and on as many operating systems as possible. The highlights of this release are: * Added chroot(2) support for sshd(8), controlled by a new option "ChrootDirectory". Please refer to sshd_config(5) for details, and please use this

[Q] DIDs
Well I suspect this list will pick up quite a bit since the article in Linux Magazine. So I'll try to get my questions in early. I looked at Asterisk about a year ago but the TPTB wanted a prebuilt solution (at that time) and I couldn't find anyone local enough to satisfiy them. We still don't have a new phone system because no one offered a good solution at a reasonable price. I

Windows testing
R 1.4.0 is now sinking into feature freeze, and we'd like some help testing it under Windows. Duncan Murdoch and Uwe Ligges have already volunteered. I've put a copy of SetupR140.exe at http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/RWin Also in that directory is a file TESTING suggesting some tests, not all of which have been run on this build. As the graphics internals have been changed a lot

simultaneously maximizing two independent log likelihood functions using mle2
Hello, I have a log likelihood function that I was able to optimize using mle2. I have two years of the data used to fit the function and I would like to fit both years simultaneously to test if the model parameter estimates differ between years, using likelihood ratio tests and AIC. Can anyone give advice on how to do this? My likelihood functions are long so I'll use the tadpole

Threshhold Models in gnlm
Hello, I am interested in fitting a generalized nonlinear regression (gnlr) model with negative binomial errors. I have found Jim Lindsay's package that will do gnlr, but I have having trouble with the particular model I am interested in fitting. It is a threshhold model, where below a certain value of one of the parameters being fitted, the model changes. Here is a sample: Cones:
