capture.output() duplicates last line unless newline (R-devel bug)
In R-devel (2015-08-12 r69024), capture.output() incorrectly duplicates the last line unless it ends with a newline. I don't see this in R 3.2.2 RC (2015-08-13 r69049). It seems to have started fairily recently; I spotted this yesterday after starting to get errors in my R.utils check that use capture.output(), cf.

LC_TIME not set correctly by Sys.setlocale() ?
Related to the following question on Stackoverflow: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/44723690/unexpected-behavior-of-sys-setlocale#44723690 It appears as if Sys.setlocale() does not update LC_TIME correctly for use in date formatting. Although R reports that LC_TIME is changed to the new setting after use of Sys.setlocale(), as.Date() still uses the old settings. The only way to update this is

Strange behavior when using progress bar (Fwd: Re: [R] The code itself disappears after starting to execute the for loop)
Dear Martin and Jon, I can reproduce this problem in the Windows GUI, where I observed it using Jon's program after 75 iterations. I didn't observe the problem in a Windows terminal or under RStudio, letting the program run for more than 200 iterations in each case. Identify does sort the locations
Hi, Using identify function, I think I should get the index of the selected points in the order I clicked them. This is what I read in the help. But I feel they are ordered. Please let me know what I missed. In the following example, I clicked on the points labelled 7, 5 and 1, but I get 1, 5, 7 as output. > set.seed(0); x = rnorm(10); y = rnorm(10); plot(x,y); text(x, y, > seq(x));

problem with normalizePath()
The packages "readxl" and "haven" (and possibly others) no longer access files on shared network drives. The problem appears to be in the normalizePath() function. The file can be read from a local drive or by functions that don't call normalizePath(). The error thrown is Error: path[1]="\\Hzndhhsvf2/data/OCPH/EPI/BHSDM/Group/17.xls": The system cannot find the

vanilla session in R Gui or RStudio
[env: Windows, R 3.6.6] When I start R from the R Gui icon or from RStudio, I get a large number of packages loaded via a namespace. Not entirely clear where these come from. As a result, I often run into problems updating packages because something is already loaded. How can start a new gui session with minimal packages loaded? > sessionInfo() R version 3.6.3 (2020-02-29) Platform:

package MonteCarlo error: object 'packages' not found
This looks like the sort of thing that you should ask the package maintainer (?maintainer). Objects created by more than one data call?
Hello, All: If I use LazyData with the Ecdat package on R-Forge, "R CMD check" reports "no visible binding for global variable 'nonEnglishNames'", where 'nonEnglishNames' is a dataset in Ecdat used as the default argument for a function. With LazyData, that NOTE disappears. However, then I get, "Warning: objects 'Hstarts',
