Apparent bug remains in v4.0.7 - Hosts allow parameter causing errors and vey slow MS Office document access
>From smb.conf:
hosts allow = 10.0.0. 127.
Same story using the following syntax instead:
hosts allow = 10.0.0.0/24 127.0.0.1/8
If I comment out the hosts allow line, the slow MS Office document access
and most of the errors in the log go away.

4.05 stable - domain join attempt failing with "NO DNS zone information found in source domain, not replicating DNS", followed by LDAP error 50
I've been trying to join Samba 4.05 stable to an existing Windows 2000
domain but keep getting an LDAP error 50 - LDAP_INSUFFICIENT_ACCESS_RIGHTS
despite attempting to joining with the Windows administrator account. I did
a capture of the network traffic generated by the failure for more
information on what's going on and discovered the following:

No NTLM with PAM after upgrade
After updating From Dovecot 1.07 (included with CentOS 5) to 2.11, NTLM
authentication will not work. Attempts to authenticate against Samba

Requested xxxx scheme, but we have a NULL password after upgrade
I'm having an issue I can't seem to work around after upgrading from Dovecot
1.0.7 to 1.2.17.
After getting Dovecot 1.07 working on CentOS 5.9, I decided that it might be
wise to upgrade to a later version, so I stuck with 1.x and went with
1.2.17, which I had to compile from source. CentOS was originally using
/etc as the starting path for Dovecot files but the source distribution puts

Directory Permissions?
Hello,
Running Samba 3.3.10 on FreeBSD 7.3.
Cannot copy a folder with a subfolder and 10 files in the subfolder from

that the folder gets copied but not the subfolder and its files.

Samba AD changing a user's password as non-root user
Hi!
I'm using Samba in an AD setup, (version 4.2.0) and I'm looking for a way to
change the password of a user from the command line, as a non-root user.
I know I can use 'smbpasswd', 'samba-tool user setpassword', or 'samba-tool
user password', but these all seem to require root privileges. When I run
them as root, they work, but when I run them as non-root

Samba3.5 + OpenLDAP config/install problem
System Summary:
centos 6.2
samba 3.5
smbldap-tools 0.9.6
openldap 2.4.23
Hello,
I am installing smb 3.5 on a CentOS 6.2 host using smbldap-tools. I've
previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4 using smb 3.0 but
CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the
configurations cannot be moved straight across.
Currently, when I attempt to connect to an smb share

Printer Admin Difficulties
I have been trying to setup a new print server on Fedora 12 based around
samba-3.4.7-58.fc12.x86_64 and cups-1.4.2-28.fc12.x86_64. All looks
good except for the ability for printer administrators to manage
printers. Whether I specify users in a system group using the
deprecated printer admin option, or specifically using net rpc rights
and the SePrinterOperatorPrivilege, it does not matter.

Samba Connection Problem
I've just set up samba for a small LAN. I'm running samba 2.2.7 on RH 8. Now I have a real problem that I have no clue on. I have VERY intermittent connectivity
to the Samba server. If I left a computer (Windows 98) idle for a while, and then try to browse the contents in the Samba server, I will get this error " domain is unavailable" or "The specified network name is no

Samba internal DNS + 2nd DNS
I'm workign to setup Samba4 and my current centos server deployment uses
TinyDNS/DNSCache for the DNS. Understanding that it is best to use Sambas
internal DNS for AD, I'm wondering how others are doing DNS? I really
don't want to use BIND.
Should my DHCP server send ddns updates to Samba's internal DNS for client
leases?
Thanks,

FW: authenticating using winbindd against NT4 domain fail s (URGENT)
Hi folks,
Can anyone shed light on this issue? I haven't heard from you guys. Is there
anything else I could do to expedite resolution of this issue? I've read the
WHATSNEW.txt and reviewed the release notes. I am not sure if I've fully
grasped what needs to be done. Can someone point me in the right direction?

getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I'm trying to get a FreeBSD 5.4 server to join a NT4 domain as a member
domain server using winbindd. I've compiled Samba with WinBIND support, ACL
Support, Syslog support, UTMP support, SMB PAM module, and with installed
POPT library.
I've reviewed Chapter 20 of TOSHARG and implemented a good portion of it
into our smb.conf file but am having trouble making the 'getent'

FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then
have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having
trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba
list in hopes someone can help me out at this point.
Can anyone help me out here?

We have installed samba4 under Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS.

Joining domain works - logging in doesn't
I'm building a replacement samba 3.5.6 domain controller to replace an
old 3.0 one. Some other things are changing too. Our user accounts are
now in LDAP rather than flat files (although the machine trust accounts
will remain in a flat file), but that should be hidden from samba as
it's going to be done through NSS. The smbpasswd file is a TDB file and
will remain so. Our users

And as extra, disable powersaving on the network card.
