Dovecot vs MBox
I'm still in the "what's wrong" stage of figuring out what's going on. But I've got a mail user who isn't getting new messages. Postfix accepts it and drops it in the users mbox. [This is verified. If I tail the Mbox, I can see the new messages.] "Mail" will see the messages too. But dovecot doesn't seem to know they exist. I don't think the MBox

Namespace problem? duplicated folders...
I'm sure this is related to name-spaces, but for some reason [brain damage perhaps? :) ] I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. In TBird, for example, I have a folder tree that looks like this Inbox -| Folder-A Folder-B Folder-C Folder-A Folder-B Folder-C And Folder-A, Folder-B, Folder-C are the same folders, just shown twice. [In two different hierarchies.] I'm using

smb.conf for Windows clients
So, I'm trying to paw through the long set of smb.conf options - and it's rather daunting. I'm wondering what smb.conf options are most important/appropriate/common for mostly Windows XP/7/(possibly v8) clients. WERR_DS_DRA_MISSING_PARENT while Joining Samba4 DC to Samba4 Domain
OK, we're getting closer here I think. I repeated with -d 2 without much help. Here is -d 3, which may point us in the right direction. As I suspected, it seems to point to some corruption in the DNS still, perhaps? The key line seems to be here: Missing parent while attempting to apply records: No parent with GUID 60e25dda-6d35-4aab-bfa5-6137cb271e27 found for object remotely known as

doveadm sync backup from old to new server
So that was really helpful for me to understand that a lot more clearly. Thanks! [Many, many thanks @Plutocrat!!] But I'm still getting a similar failure. Let me give the command I'm using. doveadm backup -D -u user at abc.net \ ssh root at po.abc.net \ docker exec b3093cxxxxxx doveadm sync -D -u user at abc.net The "local" server is where the data/mail currently is. flood of (auth in progress) connections from unresponsive windows client crashing samba
We have been experiencing a debilitating 'bug' in samba where something is causing a flood of the messages seen below in smbstatus and the network drives ( in our case N: ) on all clients become unresponsive. In fact, the entire client becomes unresponsive, essentially making them unusable until samba is restarted. We first saw this and connected it to the following open bug in samba

WERR_DS_DRA_MISSING_PARENT while Joining Samba4 DC to Samba4 Domain
Yes, I am running 4.7.3 on both servers. One has been upgraded (many times). The new one, obviously, is freshly installed. I am running DNS on the domain controller. In fact, I'm running all the default "server services". As I said, I have had some problems in the past, and for a while the DNS was not working (perhaps due to some database corruption) and I had to switch it off in

WERR_DS_DRA_MISSING_PARENT while Joining Samba4 DC to Samba4 Domain
I thought I had posted already, but my first message may have been confusing. Here is the output of the domain join: $ sudo samba-tool domain join redacted.domain.local DC -U"REDACTED\my.domain.admin" --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL Finding a writeable DC for domain 'redacted.domain.local' Found DC samba4dom.redacted.domain.local Password for [REDACTED\my.domain.admin]: NO DNS

Bug: Dovecot appending "MISSING_DOMAIN" to fetch envelope responses
Hi all, I'm seeing Dovecot include the string "MISSING_DOMAIN" in fetch envelope requests when an mailbox's `addr-spec` part does not have a `domain` part. For example: > C: a022 uid fetch 40 (envelope rfc822.header) > S: * 5 FETCH (UID 40 ENVELOPE ("Sat, 15 Aug 2020 12:53:05 +1000" > "test {{name}}" (("Michael Gratton" NIL

WERR_DS_DRA_MISSING_PARENT while Joining Samba4 DC to Samba4 Domain
I am not able to join a second domain controller to the domain, though. Is this a samba bug, or is there something I can do to fix the WERR_DS_DRA_MISSING_PARENT error? RSAT Hang
So, I setup Samba on Ubuntu 18.04, using the packaged Samba version. [Thanks Rowland/Louis et al.] I'm doing some testing/tinkering using FreeNAS as a share, using the AD as the authentication back-end. As part of that process, you need to add a computer account and change some security settings. I setup RSAT and can see the AD tree, and add users etc. When I try to switch to advanced view

Samba4 on Ubuntu 18.04 Howto setup ADDC with bind9_DLZ (extra part 4.8.1 samba)
So, I'm curious about the contrast between modifying netplan vs simply disabling systemd.resolved Is there some advantage to the gyrations to make netplan work, vs simply disabling resolved and manually defining the IP and DNS server? [I'm not complaining, I'm thankful for all the options - just wanting to have the best handle possible on the reasoning behind one method vs the other.]

Ubuntu 20.04 setup
Louis, et al. Hi! So, I'm working on a 20.04 setup. I think I'll still use the distro version and not Louis' packages. [No offense Louis - I just need to be sure if (forbid) anything happens to Louis, his packages aren't going to be supported any more, and I'll be on my own for security updates etc. The 20.04 versions are pretty current, and I think will meet my needs for the

GPO / Sysvol problems
So, I'm seeing some very odd behavior. I may have multiple issues - so I'm simply starting holding the thread of the problem and working my way back. So, the root symptom I'm having is that a GPO isn't applying correctly. [Roaming profiles namely.] I have two DC's. I change the GPO on one DC and rsync the update to the other DC. I can see that the files get updated. Yet when

I call rsync with the following parameters: /usr/bin/rsync -a --delete --numeric-ids --delete-excluded \ --rsh="/usr/bin/ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -i \ /etc/rsnapshot_ssh_certs/mykey" \ --link-dest=/data/snapshots/hourly.1/folder/mail/ \ rsyncbackup at server:/var/backups/mail/. \

One user getting: "Primary group is 0 and contains 0 supplementary groups" on standalone server
Greetings, We are having some rights issues on Samba 3.6.18 running on Slackware64 14.0 (the official Slackware Package). One of our users is having access issues and I believe I have traced the problem to the following entry in the log.smbd: Primary group is 0 and contains 0 supplementary groups Issuing the groups command for this user returns the 8 Linux groups in which the user has

[BUG] client state / Message count mismatch with imap-hibernate and mixed POP3/IMAP access
Hello, this is on Debian Jessie box, dovecot 2.2.27 from backports, imap-hibernate obviously enabled. I've been seeing a few of these since starting this cluster (see previous mail), they all follow the same pattern, a user who accesses their mailbox with both POP3 and IMAP deletes mails with POP3 and the IMAP (imap-hibernate really) is getting confused and upset about this: --- Apr 6
