Traffic Control Diagnostic Graphing Utility
I wrote a Perl script to poll `tc` for traffic control statistics (just bytes presently) for leaf qdiscs. The information is fed to either RRDTool or Munin[2], depending on what parameter is passed to the script. If the option for a RRD database is used, graphs[3][4] are written to disk for each ten second polling interval. If invoked via Munin[2], it handles graphing and samples at five

Suggestions/Pointers on where to begin my search for a solution?
Hi- I''m working in the IT department of a small liberal arts university-- we''re getting *massacred* by P2P traffic. Informal testing/probing indicates that about 60% of our traffic from the dorms was P2P-- we''ve taken the initial step of hardlimiting the dorms to no more than 40% of outgoing university bandwidth. Also, we''ve blocked the

compare / contrast of linux fw and others
Hi, I was wondering how a linux box configured as a firewall stacked up against some of the commercial products like checkpoint-1 and gauntlet. Can someone direct me to a good book or online doc that compares linux to some other firewall methods? Mind you, I''m not talking about a firewall in the classical sense, ie ip forwarding turned off and used as a proxy, but the typical Linux box

Impossible to IPfilter this?
Hi! I'm trying to increase security on my FreeBSD 4.8 firewall/DSL router/VPN router. My problem is with firewalling the VPN part. I'm using a tunnel to a RedHat 7.1 box running FreeS/WAN. This tunnel allows traffic from my internal net (172.17.0.0/24) to that box only: spdadd 172.17.0.0/24 $REDHAT/32 any -P out ipsec esp/tunnel/$MYADDR-$REDHAT/unique; spdadd $REDHAT/32 172.17.0.0/24

Advice....
Hi, I''m a relative newbie to LARTC but I have read Matthew Marsh''s book and lurked on this list for a while.... I still seem to be missing a few key ideas here.... So... Maybe folks on the list will be kind enough to help. I have two different ISPs. Cogent and Bell. I have three different firewalls (2 PIX and 1 IPCop). And I have an Ubuntu Linux box doing LARTC for around

BUG dovecot and nginx
we have setup a two level proxy configuration for our zimbra server: [ dovecot 2.2.12 (imap proxy mode) ] V [ nginx (imap proxy mode) ] V [ zimbra imap server] and it does not work ... after tying a login, the connection just hangs and ends after 30 seconds with a timeout. - if I try again rightaway in the same dovecot connection, the login goes though without trouble.

IPSec delays
I've been using IPSec and racoon alot lately creating tunnels between FreeBSD machines. Everything works as it should once I've got it running. I do however seem to get delays when one, or both ends of the tunnel drop or are rebooted. On reboot, once the machine starts racoon, it takes two or three minutes for the tunnel to come back up. If I stop and restart racoon, it takes only 60

cpu load monitoring
Hi, I have a server running Centos 5.2 and am implementing a GIS mapserver app. I have some sample logs from another implementation that give me an idea of bandwidth requirements but I would like to check the cpu load. I can not be at the server during the test and am interested in knowing if there is logging of cpu load available. Anyone have experience with this? Recommendations? Dave --

Kernel-loadable Root Kits
Thanks for the module, I think its a good idea to commit it to FreeBSD for a few reasons: 1) Some folks just prefer more static kernels. 2) Securelevel is a great thing, but can be a pain to do upgrades around remotely. [A lot of folks use FreeBSD simply because its a breeze to run remotely]. 3) Until someone writes code to add modules to a kernel via /dev/mem and releases it to the script

General Security Issues
Greetings list, As a newbie to security I would like to ask any recommendation that the list might have. We are about to "install" a new box with 4.9 stable to the nice and innocent internet world. :-P The box has no services running expect apache and we telnet to it via SSH. Main function of this box will be graphing various interfaces via rrdtool. So, I would like to ask if there is
