AIX and ADS support?
So, if I read this right, Samba4 should be able to participate as a domain controller, if I specify the option --with-ads, right? I'm using the following options: --with-winbind --with-swat --with-ads --with-ldap --with-acl-support --with-dnsupdate --with-aio-support --prefix=/opt/samba-4.0.0 --sysconfdir=/etc/samba-4.0.0 --localstatedir=/var/samba-4.0.0 The configure script pukes at the

sid_to_uid/public share problem
I've got a public share that any user is supposed to be able to access. But no matter who I try to connect as, I get the dreaded: "NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER". Important info: Samba version: 3.0.28a, OS: Kubuntu 8.04 Looking at the logs, I think the problem is here: auth/auth_util.c:create_token_from_username(1116) sid_to_uid for pcguest

How do I create a globally accessible directory [partly solved] (XP works/98 doesn't)
I just want a simple, globally accessible directory for anyone on my LAN. I don't care who they are, who they're logged in as on their windows machine, I don't care about security (it's my own private LAN!!!). Why is this so difficult to do? I've looked through the archives (which by the way, could someone spend a few minutes and put a SEARCH feature there. Following threads

connections always mapped to guest
I have setup Samba 2.2.4 on HPUX 11.0. I'm using it only as a print server. It appears that ALL connections are being mapped to "pcguest" regardless whether they are valid or not. I do not have a "username map" defined, "guest ok = yes" is set for my printer share. I am running winbindd, which seems to be working correctly. I ran the following command 5 times,

Why is an extra 'home' dir showing up?
My question is, how come daevid (on XP) sees the following directories: \\linux\dae51d \\linux\homes Shouldn't there just be the home dir only? Why does "\\linux\dae51d" show up (I assume it's b/c that's who I am logged in as on XP which maps to linux)? However, the fact that it does show up, shouldn't it be the actual HOME directory of the linux user account dae51d (as

Samba 4 vs Samba 3
So, I have "working" builds of Samba 3.6.10, and 4.0.2 using the traditional build system on AIX, both built with XLC. For historical reasons, we're needing to use 'encrypt passwords = no', so that Samba uses the OS password. The odd thing, is, the 3.6.10 Samba works just fine, but the 4.0.2 doesn't allow connections. Here's the Samba config I'm using on both:

Compromised
My wife's office server was compromised today. It appears they ssh'ed in through account pcguest which was set up for Samba. (I don't remember setting up that account, but maybe I did.) At any rate, I found a bazillion "ftp_scanner" processes running. A killall finished them off quickly, I nuked the pcguest account, and switched ssh to a different port (which I normally do

samba 3.2.5 PDC guest access lost
Hi all, I had linux samba 3.0.10 running as PDC of my domain which does only authentication for other linux samba boxes which are providing access to shares. After upgrade of PDC to Debian Lenny + samba 3.2.5 I've lost guess access to the shares which are run by samba 3.0.x boxes, while it works on samba 3.2.5 samba box. the scheme is like following :

"force user" option with NT4 domain
I've read a fair amount about this problem online, but have yet to find a solution. I have a CentOS 7 server running Samba 4. It is connected as a member to an NT4 domain. I have migrated over the configuration from an old Samba 2 server that I am trying to replace. Everything works except for the shares that have a "force user" option. When it is there, I get an error on

HELP! can't see Unix printer shares
I'm trying to use Samba to get access to my Unix printer. Unix System is FreeBSD-2.2-stable, and I'm running the latest port of Samba for FreeBSD-2.2-stable (Samba 2.0.0) from ftp.freebsd.org. I've checked all the references I can find on the web, and can't see the problem. Can anyone point out what I'm doing wrong. Under NT (adding remote printer), I see the entry for the

I just want to set up a folder on my Linux 7.2 running samba 2.2.1a-4. I have looked at the smb.conf over and over. Cannot find out why my share is not showing up. I just want users on my domain to browse the network and read the folder. I am on an NT domain and the furthest i got was seeing the workgroup testgrp on my network neighborhood. But when i click on the workgroup i get an access
