new Win7 security setting broke Samba
Good day all!
I administer two Samba servers (RHEL 4.5) which, up to recently, had been working well. Our security officials changed the LAN Manager group policy for the new Win7 systems from 'Send NTLMv2 response only; Refuse LM' to 'Send NTLMv2 response only; Refuse LM & NTLM'. We were running samba 3.0.33. I have upgraded to 3.6.8-44. I have tried a variety of

Looking for experiences with filesystem choices....
Lots of opinions out there and I have read and read, so I have a home server
that I have finally setup with a hot swap hdd cage and what I am planning on
doing is copying my data drive every other day and rotating them offsite,
haven't figured out how often though. So I did my first test last night and
the backup drive was formatted with ext3 but looking to try to speed things

Preventing hour-long fsck on ext3-filesystem
Hi!
I'm justing in the process of setting up a new fileserver for our
company. I'm installing CentOS 5.3 (64 bit) on it.
One of the "problems" with it is that it has a 3.5TB filesystem for
the user data which I formatted during setup as an ext3. Now my
experience with our current fileserver is that a 0.5TB ext3 filesystem
needs approx half an hour to complete (and kicks in

estimating degrees of freedom iof student t
I have come across the following situation when using the function
pt which calls the student t distribution function. I simulate data
from a normal distribution and fit the student t. The estimated
degrees of freedom gets larger at each iteration and there is no
convergence. It seems there should be some mechanism where it
switched to a normal distribution when the degrees of freedom gets

[LLVMdev] Suggestion for VM porting to LLVM
Gabrielle,
The way I see it, its pretty much the same thing... Conversion to LLVM-IR of
a custom bytecode is the same as conversion to LLVM-IR of a custom language.
The syntax of the 'custom language' just happens to be binary bytecode.

RESTful web service tutorial?
Hi,
I would like to turn some of our simulation codes
out to pasture and string some of them together
by draping them in web services.
I''m looking for a RESTful Camping tutorial to get
started ... pointers appreciated.
Some simple example applications:
airfoil force calculator: feed it an airfoil
geometry, an angle of attack, and a Mach number,
and it returns the lift, drag, and

[LLVMdev] Suggestion for VM porting to LLVM
Well, you are right :)
In fact I've started porting the VM in the spare time and it is
working fine. I'm still having some issues to understand the garbage
collector, but I'll delve more into it as soon as the other features
will be complete

Escaping characters
Hi,
I am writing some help about post formatting. I am using redcloth to
format the text, and in a FAQ, also formatted with redcloth, I explain
what to type to what to obtain.
So, how could I escape ''*'', ''#'' & Co, to have an output like
<redcloth>
Type *word* to obtain <strong>word</strong>
</redcloth>
I tried "Type

"no camping required" deployment?
Hi,
So Lennon got me going with my database-less Camping app,
but I''ve just realized that, I have no deployment strategy.
This app is to provide a GUI front end to our FUN3D fluid
flow simulation monster, which is used by ourselves, companies,
universities, hobbyists, and the military. The end result
of which, is a file of (key, value) pairs read by FUN3D.

Account locking synchronization between Linux and Windows (my solution)
We are using a Samba domain controller with a Sun Directory Server 7 LDAP backend and we observed that when an account was locked out on Windows, it would not lock the account on Linux as well.
We are using Samba 3.0.33 on CentOS 5.3 and this is the change I made:
To configure samba to perform proper windows lockout in conjunction
with a linux lockout,

research question
Heya,
I'm a PhD student at the University of Southampton. I'm researching the how
multi-threaded software uses shared resources such as shared state and
message passing over networks etc, and how those uses change across software
versions. I am attempting to read through the source code of Icecast but
don't have a great understanding of multi-threaded C so if anyone could give

Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server
provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is
running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few
questions regarding Samba and Linux clients.
1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages?
Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network
