adjust SOA record
Hi, We have outdated SOA information in our samba DNS. We used to have a DC1, and it is no more, however it's listed in our SOA records on both remaining DC's. I think this is not correct. I am under the impression that in order to get full failover support, all DC's need to have listed themselves as SOA. This is also what google tells me:

samba_dnsupdate
Guys, what i noticed. Look at this. Refused- 1/3/0 (Class 254) ( /24 ) Paully used /16 update 1/3/1 (Class 254) CNAME V-RDS02.mydomain.com CNAME ? And, if he uses in his example samba-tool dns add dc3 mydomain.com V-RDS02 A 130.130.0.252 A record was used. Is resolv.conf checked and it is sure in pointing to the correct DNS of the AD first? addresses: -

Is there a way to list all the current entries with samba-tool? Use it as a way to check what is happening? Hi, 'm trying to setup a Win 2k8 r2 as member server of my domain as Andrew did on his video, but I've come across this error: Aug 9 22:47:10 voip named[17100]: client 192.168.254.160#62102: updating zone 'samba.dghvoip.com/IN': update unsuccessful: samba.dghvoip.com: 'name not in use' prerequisite not satisfied (YXDOMAIN) I followed SambaWiki howto word by word, and my

Moving the 1st DC (FSMO) to another site - howto?
Ole, DC IPs (A records) are not meant to be changed (not changed _often_ at least), CNAME are. CNAME are aliases. When a AD site is created nothing else is done, you added a 2016-06-24 3:48 GMT+02:00 Traupe, Ole <ole.traupe at tu-berlin.de>: > Thanks again for your help, James! > > I did test-wise and I didn't see any changes in DNS. Problem with dynamic DNS
(please reply to the list) If the record does not exist, then you have an other problem. Because samba does support this : cat /var/lib/samba/private/named.conf.update /* this file is auto-generated - do not edit */ update-policy { grant INTERNAL.DOMAIN.TLD ms-self * A AAAA; grant Administrator at INTERNAL.DOMAIN.TLD wildcard * A AAAA SRV CNAME; grant

Problem with dynamic DNS
Hi! We are facing problems with Windows 10 and dynamic DNS. The problem is that samba_dlz prevents AAAA deletion. Can we permit AAAA somehow or fix this? Disabling IPv6 and removing IPv6 driver from interface made no difference whatsoever. This works on Windows 7 just fine. Samba version: 4.1.6-Ubuntu We see the following with wireshark: Domain Name System (query) Transaction ID: 0x8aa4

New DNS-Records not aviable
hi again. after some tests, (on my operational domain and on a new testdomain) i detected this behavior: on samba 4.11.6 sometimes the new DNS-records finisches on a wrong dns zone. the problem occurs, if more then 5 records are created with the same name in more then one domain zone for example: testa1.jupiter.mydom.org testa2.jupiter.mydom.org testa3.jupiter.mydom.org

Demote a dead PDC: residuals in "DNS" console
Ok, I made a backup following the Samba wiki and then did this. Had to wait a bit between updating the SOA's because I got a strange error message saying that a time value for the non-update of some resource cleanup wasn't set. But a few minutes later I could update the second SOA as well, and now the Samba log is clean. Ole Am 28.10.2015 um 16:42 schrieb Ole Traupe: > Hi, >

DC replacement and DNS issue
Back from another test: rather than build new DCs, join them and use one of them to seize FSMO roles, I just seize FSMO with one of my current DCs. Once more the SOA was not updated, which seems to mean there is a real issue about that as seizing these roles has chances to precede removal of old FSMO owner. To update SOA record using samba-tool: 1) If not created, create a NS record for the DC

ISC's dhcp server, radvd and bind9 now adding samba as an AD DC
Hi, Why modifying a working conf when you can build your DC on others systems (VM)? That could be really nice to learn but you add a lot of complexity in your process, I think. Why not using DLZ to access your AD zones? I expect Bind to be able to mix its behaviour: flat file for some zone, DLZ for others... Now regarding: update-policy { grant AD.DOMAIN2.SUBDOMAIN.TLD ms-self *
