asterisk and TTS ( text to speech)
I have done research and reading around text to speech, and was wanting to
get an updated query of where everyone is with this. I have installed
festival 1.4 on CentOS 3.5 ( system was installed using Asterisk at Home
ISO ). I also changed the directory php application to use the festival.pl
to read the names of those who have not installed a greeting. It works
well enough, though the only voices

Automatic Speech Recognition and Text To Speech using iSpeech
Hi,
a set of AGI scripts that provide ASR and TTS for asterisk using the
iSpeech API (http://www.ispeech.org/) are available on this page:
http://zaf.github.io/asterisk-ispeech/
This is the first public release, updates will soon follow.
Feel free to test and report.

Transmitting synthetic speech using Speex?
Hi Reed,
I've been using Speex to transmit TTS for years. It works very well with
no tweaking. I use Microsoft TTS ("Microsoft Mike") with Speex at 16kHz
wideband and VBR quality 6. Sometimes I forget that the sound is even
coming from another computer and being compressed+decompressed. If
anything, TTS seems easier for Speex to deal with than real voice. But
I don't

Microsoft Speech Server/UCMA Integration
Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone's tried to use OR currently use the Microsoft
Speech Server or their UCMA 3.x SDK etc. as their ASR/TTS backend/engines
etc. If yes, then what's their experience? Please Note, this does NOT need
to be integrated with Asterisk ala MRCP or some module/plugin etc. I just
wanted to know if someone's used it and and what their experience has been

Text to Speech - Someone needs to do this
Why hasn't someone found 50 people who sound alike, put them in sound
studios and record the 10,000 most commonly used words. You would all
differnent forms of the 1,000 most words, i.e. leading, trailing, question
etc.
You can synthesize the other 0.05% when you run into them. With hard drives
so big, processors so fast and EXT3 that can handle 30,000+ files in a
single directory that

Text to Speech In R
Dear all,
Excuse me for my searching skills: I just couldn't figure out how to do any simple text to speech in R console.
What I want to do is, out put simple English words or sentences to speaker as voice. No fanciness. For example, I want the R console to speak "Hello world" or "Howdy".
Do you know of any related function/package? Thanks,
- Alex

Cepstral voices
what's the easiest way of using cepstral voices with asterisk ? On their
website, in the ssml page
(http://www.cepstral.com/cgi-bin/support?page=ssml), they say
"Asterisk PBX
SSML can be used with Cepstral voices in Asterisk by simply embedding
the markup into the input text."
what input text ? To what application ?
Thanks !

Looking for Speech Recognition (ASR) suggestions
Is it correct that the unimrcp is the best approach for Asterisk and ASR/TTS?
Could anyone provide pros/cons for the various ASR options for Asterisk?
We need the ability for very large grammars (over 100,000 options). Because of this, my initial thought is Nuance or Lumenvox. Does this sound correct?
Have a great day!

Looking for Speech Recognition (ASR) suggestions
Hello Luca,
Thank you for your response. I?m familiar with speech recognition and TTS, but new to MRCP.
Yes, the 100k options is used for names in a directory listing.
In the pre-MRCP support, Nuance ASR used API events/methods for the application to tell ASR when the prompt was playing and when it stopped. If ASR detected speech, it would signal an event so we would stop playing the prompt.

SAPI (Speech Synthesis API)
Replace nospam with ssb22 to reply by email.
Hi,
Does anybody have pointers about using SAPI 5
speech synthesis engines (sometimes called a
"SAPI 5 voices") under Wine? I've searched all
over the Web but can't find any mention of it.
Although English speech is well-supported in
Linux, speech in languages like Chinese,
Japanese and Korean is not. Commercial

Transmitting synthetic speech using Speex?
I used Microsoft text to speech with speex. It sounded
reasonably well. I didn't experiment with various quality
settings (8KHz, default quality). I was capturing audio
from a sound card, not the direct wave data from the TTS
engine.
