adding lines to multiple plot
Hi
I am trying to add density lines to multiple histograms created using R. I
have managed to get all 18 lines on the last histogram in the series,
however, i cannot figure out how to get each line appear on the correct
histogram plot. I know in Matlab there is a hold function, is there
something similar in R?
the following is the code i have used to get mutiple plots and then add all

EWMA error
hi,
Could anyone help me in solving the following error:
I have 5 stocks returns data (returns)

covariance matrix for each t

S<-cov(returns) # initial (t=1) covariance matrix
EWMA[1,] = c(S)[c(1,4,2)] ---ERROR # extract the

Pass Conditional & loop argument into a function
Dear R community,
I have been spending hours to solve my problem myself but I'm just unable to
do it. So excuse me if I demand your time.
My problem is, that inside my function, I want to pass conditional arguments
(that are the result of a loop) into a function.
I am sure that my approach is kind of stupid but I cannot think of another
way to do it. I apologize...

random forest -optimising mtry
Dear R-helpers,
I'm working on mass spectra in randomForest/R, and following the
recommendations for the case of noisy variables, I don't want to use the
default mtry (sqrt of nvariables), but I'm not sure up to which
proportion mtry/nvariables it makes sense to increase mtry without
"overtuning" RF.
Let me tell my example: I have 106 spectra belonging to 4 classes, the

Como cambiar el tamaño de los árboles de clasificación
Muy buenas; mi primera consulta. Utilizo rpart (con as.party) y
Gracias

Extract a predictors form constparty object (CHAID output) in R
I have a large dataset (questionnaire results) of mostly categorical
variables. I have tested for dependency between the variables using
chi-square test. There are an incomprehensible number of dependencies.
I used the chaid() function in the CHAID package to detect
interactions and separate out (what I hope to be) the underlying
structure of these dependencies for each variable. What typically

How automatic Y on install y/n prompts?
You are right, maintainer does keep a list of model's packages.
So how do I use a variable instead of $adaboost$?

how to take this experiment with R?
How about:
x <- data.frame(matrix(rnorm(1550),c(50,31)))
model <- step(lm(x[,1] ~ as.matrix(x[,2:31])))

You should read the section on Indexing in the Introduction to R document that comes with R, regarding $ and `[[`.

problem with setGroupGeneric from package methods
Hi,
There seems to be a problem with setGroupGeneric() from package 'methods'. The symptoms are somewhat erratic, in the sense that small changes may lead to any of the following behaviours.
1.Package works without problems on Windows and installs on Linux but gives error when loaded with library().
2.Package installs on both systems and gives error when loaded on any of them.

structural equation modeling in sem, error, The model has negative degrees of freedom = -3, and The model is almost surely misspecified...
Hi all,
I am attempting to learn my way through the sem package by constructing
a simple structural model for some of my data on bird diversity,
abundance, and primary productivity.
I have constructed a covariance matrix between these variables as per
the following:

Ruby 1.8.7 + Rails 2.3.2 + TLS = Where's the documentation?
After spending a few hours reading dozens of blogs and tutorials I am
still stumped. Numerous sites mention ruby 1.8.7 and rails 2.3
supporting TLS out of the box. However, I can not find any documentation
on setting this up to send emails correctly. Furthermore, after
attempting to send emails using Gmail and TLS i get the following error:

The constant part of the log-likelihood in StructTS
Dear all,
I'd like to discuss about a possible bug in function StructTS of stats
package. It seems that the function returns wrong value of the
log-likelihood, as the added constant to the relevant part of the
log-likelihood is misspecified. Here is an simple example:

[LLVMdev] Language Reference bug?
Hi,
The language reference uses "::" many places where it seems it should be
using ".. code-block:: llvm". The result is that Sphinx does not colorize
these samples.
Should I fix this? Or is it purposeful?
Also, anybody but me that has noticed that Sphinx does not always colorize
things even if you put the proper ".. code-block:: llvm" in front? If it

GlobalISel: Ambiguous intrinsic semantics problem
Matt: that’s fair. We’re generally apprehensive of option 2 as well.
Eli: Yes, currently we believe that aarch64.neon.addp is the only arm64 one affected, but we don’t know how prevalent this is on other targets. Splitting it is certainly possible combined with the autoupgrader.
If disambiguating the intrinsics is the preferred solution, then I think we should also have the langref also specify

system is computationally singular: reciprocal condition number
Hi folks,
I know, this is a fairly common question and I am really disappointed that I
could not find a solution.
I am trying to calculate Mahanalobis distances in a data frame, where I have
several hundreds groups and several hundreds of variables.
Whatever I do, however I subset it I get the "system is computationally
singular: reciprocal condition number" error.
I know what it means

Survival analysis MLE gives NA or enormous standard errors
Hi,
I am trying to fit the following model:
sr.reg.s4.nore <- survreg(Surv(age_sym4,sym4), as.factor(lifedxm),
data=bip.surv)
Where age_sym4 is the age that a subject develops clinical thought
problems; sym4 is whether they develop clinical thoughts problems (0 or
1); and lifedxm is mother's diagnosis: BIPOLAR, MAJOR DEPRESSION, or
CONTROL.
I am interested in whether or not
