ADSL ppp0, persist
Hello guys,
I have two ISP's connected to my router. One via eth2, second one via
ADSL modem, with ppoe doing on my Centos 5 .
The problem I have is, that when ADSL fails , interface ppp0 is
removed. This also removes my static routes configured for this
interface. I do not want that, as I have load balancing configured and
default route is removed when ppp0 interface disapears.
This is my

adsl-setup (compaq presario sr5010nx)
I just bought a new cheap compaq presario sr5010nx and so far have been
unable to get my dsl up and running on Centos5. pppoeconf on Ubuntu
works just fine -- same machine -- same harddrive.
I've run adsl-setup and system-config-network? (separately) numerous
times without success.
So far I suspect a missing driver but suppose it could also be a
detection issue.

Enabling CHAP
Hey everyone,
I'm having trouble accessing my Samba fs from my Windows machine. The
closest I've come to solving my problem is that I need to enable CHAP on the
Samba server. What alterations would I need to make to smb.conf or anything
else in order to set this up correctly? This 'Invalid password!' error is
getting on my nerves because I'm positive that it's correct.

Has anyone successfully used centos 4 as an iscsi CLIENT /w CHAP?
I am having a very hard time getting iscsi to work with
CentOS 4, if I put the same exact settings into the Microsoft ISCSI
initiator it works great, however I continually get authentication
errors from the kernel driver for iscsi when I try it on my *nix
machine.
Any advice?
Thanks,
-Drew

Has anyone successfully used centos 4 as an iscsi CLIENT/w CHAP?
Well, Im using an Adaptec Snap 4500 and I've had nothing but problems
with it, initially I thought it was an issue with CHAP authentication so
I completely disabled authentication and the kernel is still reporting
in dmesg and /var/log/messages that it cannot authenticate with the
target /boggle... On a side note, I know the iscsi slice works because I
can connect to it just fine on Windows XP

OT: Jerry seems like such a polite chap
I always smile to myself when reading the replies on the mailing list from

Need basic PPPoE startup help
I need basic PPPoE startup help.
adsl-start DID bring up my PPPoE link (ppp0) to my ISP over eth0 via the
DSL modem/bridge. My IPv4 CIDR block is routing and Shorewall is doing
the firewalling.
But shorewall has to be started after ppp0 is up and working. For now
this means running shorewall restart (or start?). Shorewall 4.2 will
have a way to restart shorewall without recompiling, I

question on alias IPs using ifcfg-eth0:x
When using ifcfg-eth0:x files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/, should
each file (where x increments appropriately) point to DEVICE=eth0:x or
DEVICE=eth0:0?
I apparently have my alias files all ifcfg-eth0:0 - ifcfg-eth0:7 show
DEVICE=eth0:0. Is this right? It seems odd to me and while it does
seem odd, the alias IPs are being appropriately responded to, answering
pings and nameserver

Adding Ethernet alias (why 3 hard links for an ifcfg-eth file?)
I need to add eth0:1 with a new IP address to my C5-based router.
Does a design document exist for the ifcfg family of scripts that explains
how they're to be used? Before I go digging through the script hierarchy
I'm hoping someone can point me to documentation to make the process easier.
One confusing issue is that the ifcfg-eth* files in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts are

ifcfg-rh: error: Missing or invalid IP4 prefix '0
Hi all,
I get the following in my logs, seems like its benign but wanted to
get any thoughts.
nm-system-settings: ifcfg-rh: parsing /etc/sysconfig/network-
scripts/ifcfg-bond0 ...
nm-system-settings: ifcfg-rh: error: Missing or invalid IP4
prefix '0'
I get this for all 4 nics in my bond as well as my loopback.
No network issues, all is well.

DNS params on ifcfg-eth files
Hi all,
i am using a laptop for my work. When i need to go to some customers
I need to change my tcp/ip configuration every time (phisical
interface and wirelss interface). Most of them do not have a dhcpd
server on their networks, and i need to this changes by hand. For this
pourpose i make some scripts to do this changes automatically.
All works ok, But i have problems with

bonding and ifcfg config
Hi,
I'd like to bond two existing interfaces and checked the RH EL 6.3 [1] doc.
Comparing the current settings of e.g. eth0 to the example config in the
docs I wonder what options I still have to use/copy and which I can drop.
e.g. what should happen to my RH 6.3 eth0 settings not in the docs?

Weird behaviour of ifcfg scripts
Hi,
I accidentally found that the existence of a file e.g. named
ifcfg-eth1:1 put in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ leads to the
appropriate interface being created even with the option 'ONBOOT' set to
'no':
DEVICE="eth1:1"
BOOTPROTO="static"
NM_CONTROLLED="no"
ONBOOT="no"
TYPE="Ethernet"

ifcfg-br options
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an option for the ifcfg-br file that matches the
brctl setageing parameter?
I am using KVM and am running a DPI guest and need this parameter set to 0 to get
mirrored span port data to cross the bridge to the guest vnet device.
Thanks,

ifcfg-link?
This is happening with the Centos7-armv7 image 1804, but I was wondering
if it is a broader C7 issue.
My image has only 2 ifcfg files:? ifcfg-l0 and -link.? 'ip a' is listing
the ethernet as eth0.? ifcfg-link has contains:
DEVICE=link
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
ONBOOT=on
I then used nmcli to create my ifcfg-eth0
nmcli con delete eth0
nmcli con add type ethernet con-name eth0 ifname eth0 ip4
