Custom hiera back-ends
So there''s this: http://docs.puppetlabs.com/hiera/1/custom_backends.html Is there a more thorough tutorial? That one''s a little … light. :-) -- Brian Lalor blalor@bravo5.org -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group. Executing a script after creating vhosts with create_resources
Hello I''d love a bit of advice in terms of how I should best go about this. I am creating a bunch of vhosts, their definitions are stored in json (I''m using heira) that json file will be generated from data held on another server. I''m just using the puppetlabs apache module and create_resources to then generate all the vhosts and their directories etc. I''m

Staging content from modules for temporary use by resources
Hello, I would like to find a few to use files available in a module for the execution of a particular resource, without having to stage the file explicitly onto the client and possibly having to clean it up afterwards. (This could also apply to content coming from templates.) The use-cases I have in mind are: running a SQL file (to set up some content in a database), extracting an archive

Hiera Automatic Parameter Lookup Question
This may be a dumb question, but here goes So I''m running on Puppet 3.1.1 on RHEL5, and i''ve been using Hiera since 2.5/2.6 ish and it''s been great!! I was reading up on Automatic Parameter Lookups and would love to use it for my modules. But I can''t seem to ever get Hiera/Puppet to load the value i''ve set in my yaml files. I feel like I must be

cross-subnet browsing problems
I'm trying to set up cross-subnet browsing using Samba on a Linux box and a Sparc UltraEnterprise with Win95 and NT Workstation clients. I'm using the Sparc as the domain master and also as the WINS server on the 108 subnet. The Linux box is the local master on the 46 subnet. Both are running Samba 1.9.17alpha4. I can see the conversation between the two samba servers and the browse

Kernel panic after update to 6.4
After successfully updating three CentOS 6.3 VM guests to 6.4 I decided to update the host as well. And it failed to boot. Kernel panic - Not syncing: Attempted to kill init! Pid: 1, comm: init not tainted: 2.6.32-358.2.1.el6.x86_64 #1 Plus a call trace I couldn't see Luckily I was able to boot from the previous kernel and get my system back up. After booting to the previous kernel I

Old hardware, newer kernels
I have an old server (old hardware) that's been running 6.4 with kernel 2.6.32-279.19.1.el6.i686, no problem. Except, any kernel update after that causes it not to boot anymore. All I get is a blinking cursor on the screen, nothing else. Is this the end of this hardware, no more kernel updates after this? For reference, these are all the options that kernel is booting up with (lines

cloud-init in CentOS 6.3 images
Good evening, all. I just tried spinning up a CentOS instance in EC2 using ami-de5bd2ee from the AWS marketplace. I put a dummy script into the user-data field when launching the instance from the EC2 console but found it didn't work, even though the SSH key for the root user did. I pinged Karanbir on ##aws and he suggested I post here to get the conversation started. I'm currently

Server dies after kernel upgrade
I am running a server with CentOS release 6.4 (Final) and the kernel version of 2.6.32-279.19.1.el6.x86_64 and everything looks ok, but when I do a yum update on the kernel to update it to a newer version "2.6.32-358.11.1.el6". It will not restart after the required reboot. It will start to load until the task bar at the bottom gets to the end than it stops loading I have been patient

HVM vLAPIC timer interrupts intermittently disappearing
Hello, I''m trying to port one of our existing appliances (running on 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4) to a Xen HVM guest . We''re seeing some very odd behaviour that doesn''t manifest on other platforms. The guest experiences intermittent lockups of a few seconds- shell sessions become unresponsive, and various software healthchecking in our application triggers,

Centos 4 repos help me!
Dear CentOS Community Is totally clear there's no support to Centos 4 platform today, but I need to install some packages -ideally- from repositories, so I'll be glad if someone can provide me still working ones, (obviously non-official). If isn't possible I'll move on CentOS5, but (initially) keeping current PHP and MySQL versions. In both cases, I'll need working CentOS4

Request help about developing android apps on CentOS

So here's my apologizes if I'm not able to claim the problem clearly. I'm now using CentOS 6.3 with kernel 2.6.32-279.19.1.el668. Recently I wanna transfer my work from WIndows 8 to Linux. Reusable Puppet config for Vagrant
I took an hour this morning to document how I use Vagrant and Puppet together to provision development VMs as well as more production-like systems. This may be entirely elementary to folks who are more fluent with Puppet, but this is an example I thought was lacking. https://github.com/blalor/vagrant-puppet-example I welcome feedback and criticism of this setup. I''m looking to

Samba vs. Firewall and/or SELinux
Hi all. I created a smb-share on my el6 for all windows-pcs in my home-network (I'm the only Linux-User in my family) for sharing all the stuff we have, like music and videos and documents. The share will be shown on the other pcs (Windows XP), but they can't open it. The error-message ist "Share not found" on our preferred language of course! SELINUX-CONFIG sh-4.1# cat
