AMD Ryzen and CentOS
I have a new system with an AMD Ryzen 1600 CPU and I'm trying to run
CentOS, so far without success. The only information I could find was
a post reporting that CentOS 7 would crash during installation on a
Ryzen system: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=61831 .
I tried updating to the latest elrepo "mainline stable" kernel,
version 4.11 (by booting from a live CD and

I've installed CentOS 7 with the latest kernel from elrepo (4.11.8),
and I can't get Grub to install. I think I'll have to conclude that it

Booting CentOS 6 with Grub from CentOS 7
I had CentOS 6 installed on an MBR hard disk. I converted the disk to
GPT (with UEFI) and installed CentOS 7 on a new partition.
CentOS 7 itself seems to work properly.
Grub from CentOS 7 automatically created an entry for CentOS 6, but I
get an error if I try to boot CentOS 6.
The menu entry is:
menuentry 'CentOS release 6.10 (Final) (on /dev/sda7)' --class

Correction to HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
There's a mistake in HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey , so I'd like to ask that
someone fix it, or that I be given editing rights.
The mistake is that in the section on CentOS 6, step 8, the correct
command is "syslinux /dev/sdb1" (only).
Also, although this isn't a mistake, I'd like to suggest mentioning in
step 1 that the reason why part of the USB key has to be formatted

XKB: Failed to compile keymap
I had to stop using the fglrx video driver from ELRepo, which isn't
supported with CentOS 6.4. Now I can't start X; I get the following:

The CentOS "contrib" repository
According to the Wiki, the CentOS contrib repository "contains packages
contributed by CentOS users which do not overlap with any of the core
distribution packages".
The repository seems to be empty. Are contributions actually welcome?
Are there any policies about proposing packages?
Thanks,

NTFS and elrepo
I have here a box which I dual-boot between CentOS 5.4 and an older
version of that "other OS" that I'm using to check out the ELrepo
version of kmod-ntfs. After installing as per the directions on the
ELrepo site, I can mount an NTFS filesystem, and when I type "mount"
with no options the output tells me that the target filesystem is
mounted read-write. However, when I

Kernel crash
Hi everyone,
I updated the kernel from 3.10.0-514.16.1.el7.x86_64
to 3.10.0-693.2.2.el7.x86_64 . While I was following these steps
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless/Broadcom (I knew that I
needed to compile again everything) in order to activate WIFI, the laptop
crashed doing
# depmod -a
# modprobe wl

CentOS 5.4 and BitTorrent
If I remember correctly, when version 5.3 was released, about 95% was
made available by BitTorrent before the official release date, so that
the entire file would be available as soon as possible after the
release.
Could the same be done this time?

Donation programme
Is there any decision about the donation programme?
The Web page still says: "If you are looking to make a cash dontation to
the CentOS Project, please check back here after August 15th, 2009."
I assume that donations aren't refused, but is there a suggested amount,
as there used to be?

lm_sensors and Shuttle
Hi All,
I'm trying to get lm_sensors to work on a Shuttle with an AMD K10. The version
of lm_sensors in the main CentOS repo is 2.10.7, which is two years old now.
Support for the K10 was added about a year ago.
So, does anyone know if there are binaries available for more recent versions
of lm_sensors?
Also, if anyone has knowledge of the sensors layout for recent Shuttle AMD
motherboards,

Installing a single rpm package from desktop/browser on CentOS 7
Unfortunately, the GUI isn't quite set up to tell you what the error would
be. When you use `$ sudo yum install whatever.rpm`, the output in the shell
will often give you a clue as to what's going wrong--a missing dependency,
etc.

Strange dots on monitor
Yves thank you very much for your help, today I tried newer drivers but the
problem persists. So I think it is hardware problem. Since the laptop is
still in warranty I will probably contact the manufacturer. My only worry
is that they would not accept it since I am running Linux (the laptop came
with Windows - and I am not sure if the problem would be also present on
Windows). Do you think there

Updating information on Skype in HowTo
Hello:
My user name is YvesBellefeuille.
I'd like to edit the information on using Skype under CentOS 6 at
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype .
The current information is based on
http://www.openfusion.net/2009/09/19#fn.html , which was written in
2009 and is no longer accurate. Here are two examples: (1) it's no
longer necessary to install qt4; (2) the packages to be installed are

Install CentOS 7 on MBR hard disk
I have a UEFI system, but I want to install CentOS on a MBR (not GPT)
hard disk.
The installation program keeps telling me that I must create an "EFI
system partition on a GPT disk mounted at /boot/efi".
I can't find a way to work around this. Is there a solution?

Right, the problem seems to arise if you already have partitions on
your MBR disk. Perhaps Fred Smith can confirm this.

If you read

carefully, it seems to say that if you have UEFI and an MBR
