Kindle failure
My Kindle for PC has worked fine in WINE for many months, although the offered upgrade last month did fail to install; I didn't need it anyway. Now it has suddenly stopped working, I think since latest Ubuntu updates, not the 1110, it was fine with that for weeks. What might this mean? $ wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Amazon/Kindle/Kindle.exe fixme:service:scmdatabase_autostart_services

acts_as_tree
Hello, I''m trying to create categories that have their own subcategories, and each subcategory may have its own subcategories, .. and so on. After some reading, I found out that the best way for creating such a thing is to use acts_as_tree, but I didn''t find any tutorial or article that explain this in a clear way. After a lot of work I was finally able to create categories and

Kindle PC 1.8.1 and wine 1.3.32
Kindle crashes in wine. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=24648 I am using arch linux. I downgraded wine because it was not working in latest wine from arch. I also tried other Kindle for PC versions and failed. Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x7855753a (thread 002c), starting debugger... Problem with Wine on a Mac
I'm trying to use Wine on an Intel Mac (OS 10.4.11) to run the Amazon Kindle for PC app. I've installed Wine following the instructions at http://davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/ and when I do "wine KindleForPCinstaller.exe" from SH's $ prompt, it successfully creates the file "Kindle For PC.desktop" (which looks like a Windows shortcut or batch/shell

Arrange values on a timeline
I have a set of labels arranged along a timeframe in a. Each label has a timestamp and marks a state until the next label. The dataframe a contains 5 such timestamps and 5 associated labels. This means, on a continious scale between 1-100, there are 5 markers. E.g. 'abc' marks the timestampls between 10 and 19, 'def' marks the timestamps between 20 and 32, and so on. a <-

Looking for simple line-splitting code
A 3rd option could be scan(text=x, what="", blank.lines.skip=FALSE) (all because readLines() doesn't obey the text=x convention, perhaps it should? I'm unsure whether the textConnection is left open in Rui's method.) -pd > On 5 Feb 2025, at 15:35 , Duncan Murdoch <murdoch.duncan at gmail.com> wrote: > > Thanks to Rui, Peter and Tanvir! Thanks to Rui, Peter and Tanvir! Peter's seems to be the fastest of the 3 suggestions so far on the little test case, but on the real data (where x contains several thousand lines), Rui's seems best. Search for (any of) multiple terms slow
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, this may be an obvious logical problem I'm not aware of, which cannot be solved any more efficiently... but maybe it's just a bug or there is potential for optimisation in Dovecot (or Thunderbird?). When searching for multiple terms at once ("any of") with Thunderbird/Dovecot (using FTS Squat indexes), it takes much longer (not

Looking for simple line-splitting code
If I have this object: x <- c("abc\ndef", "", "ghi") and I write it to a file using `writeLines(x, "test.txt")`, my text editor sees a 5 line file: 1: abc 2: def 3: 4: ghi 5: which is what I'd expect: the last line in the editor is empty. If I use `readLines("test.txt")` on that file, I get the vector

Slow printing in batch?
For doumentation purposes I run a batch R program that does reshaping etc. of data and finally prints things. When I paste the code into an R-window everything runs in a few seconds, but in Batch mode i get in the output file the result below. Any clues why R uses 4 min to print a 1129\times 6 dataframe in batch mode? The scrit I use to run R is: c:\stat\r\%R_VERS%\bin\Rterm --no-restore
