Getting Started
Hello all,
I am Mohd Azeem. I want to contribute in Xapian but I am a newbie here. I wonder if anyone could help me in getting started with Xapian. I have some basic knowledge of IR and implemented TF*IDF and PageRank schemes, and also implemented Inverted Index and Web-Crawler.
regards,
Azeem

Reading a password-protected PDF
Hello respected developers,
I was wondering if it is possible for xapian to read a password-protected
PDF. Searches in the archives and google had yield 0 results. I also tried
looking at the source code but I could not find the specific one related to
this issue. The characteristic of the set of PDF is as:
1. a set of password protected PDF documents
2. all PDF is set with the same password.

Weighting recent results
I did some digging and found a thread from 2011 talking about how to
subclass Xapian::PostingSource in order to incorporate the date or
recency of a document in its weighting:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.search.xapian.general/8849/focus=8856
As in that thread, I want to be clear that I don't want to sort by date,
but rather incorporate date information into the score by which I

Are the results in the order of relevancy
I am using aaf and things are working fine.
I''m just curious to find out if the results are returned in the order
of relevancy of the search term.
I am thinking of getting the ids and further processing those ids and
returning the result in a different order. Then it struck me what if the
results are in the order of relevancy. Based on the answer to the
question I''ll

Balancing relevancy and recentness
I was wondering if there was a good way to either balance the relevancy
score with recentness of matching documents- or include the recentness
in the score somehow?
Thanks,
Ben

Custom weight factors - pushing the relevancy ranking how we want it
Hi guys (and gals?),
We're using Xapian/Omega for indexing and searching forums.
As forums are, the content that is relevant to a search is not just
determined by the frequency or location of the terms; the date the topic
has been last modified is important as well.
Another issue we find is that the amount of results is so overwhelming,
the user is unable to find the correct topic for his

More relevance for recent documents
Good afternoon
I would like to ask if is possible somehow give more relevance to the
recent documents in search results.
I dont want to sort results according to the date, I still prefer
relevance, but I would like to see recent documents with better scoring.
I was trying to add search query using AND_MAYBE, which should use
relevance from both subqueries, but it didnt add any benefit to the

Using relevance when sorting by generated key
Hi all,
I am trying to implement a scheme where documents in an MSet will be
sorted based on relevance as well as geographical distance from a given
(non-fixed) point.
I understand that this can be accomplished by using PostingSource in
order to implement a custom weighting scheme that would combine BM25
weighting and distance. The problem is that I am using perl and
PostingSource is not

getting the unique values and counts from a vector
Hi all,
>From a vector, I want to get the unique values and the counts of these
unique values in the vector. For example,
x<-c(2 ,1 ,2, 1, 4 ,2 ,1, 4 ,1 ,1)
xu<-unique(x)
xn<-numeric(length(xu))
for (i in 1:length(xu)) {xn[i]<-length(which(x==xu[i]))}
There must be a very much simpler method of doing this. Can somebody
direct me to the functions that I must read in order to do

How do you use Mongrel?
Hey folks,
I''m working on the Mongrel book with Zed, and wanted to get some
feedback from the core users (this list) about how they use Mongrel.
That sounds a bit vague, but I''m interested in hearing things about
frustrating problems / workaround, preferred configurations, if you
have a particular way you set up / store your config files when

Very little space is available in one of my plots for the legend. I would
like to lift it out of the main plot area and present it in the subtitle
area. Would appreciate any help that I can get.
