net logon scripts not running
I am running Samba4 on a Debian/Jessie AD DC. I have a network netlogon
share with a single script in it. This .bat file is referenced in the
ADUC profile and I can navigate to the netlogon share and run it, where
it does what it is supposed to do.
However when I log onto the workstation, it never executes. For example,
it maps a drive but the drive is not mapped after a logon.

Home drive and logon scripts intermitently not applied
Hi folks,
This problem has been driving me nuts for the last 3 years... Now I am
running Samba 4.0.9 but the very same was happening before the
migration to AD, with Samba 3.x. Most clients are running WinXP SP3
with all updates.
The problem is that both the logon script and home drive defined on
the "Profile" tab on the AD Users and Computers MMC, *RANDOMLY* and
*INTERMITENTLY* does

Samba "%G" replacement not working in "Logon script" ?
Dear Ricky,
Thanks a lot for your answer. But I still have two problems:
1. I am not using samba as AD DC but as PDC.
2. What I would need is the primary group... Do you thinks %WORKGROUP%
could work ?
3. And should I use %WORKGROUP% in smb.conf or in batch login script...
Thanks a lot in advance for your help...

Extending the AD schema - Cannot see attributes in RSAT
Hy Guys,
I am trying to migrate to samba 4 and I need some help. So, I have a samba
running with samba 3 and LDAP. Today I use my samba for auth of my e-mail,
file server and several other applications. I use a WEB based LDAP
administration program called goSA.
I have Installed samba 4.8.4 on a test machine and create some users, the
problem is, to keep my email and all functionality that I

smb.conf for Windows clients
So, I'm trying to paw through the long set of smb.conf options - and
it's rather daunting.
I'm wondering what smb.conf options are most
important/appropriate/common for mostly Windows XP/7/(possibly v8) clients.
TIA
-Greg

how to use root preexec on user share with %U not as root user
Hello everybody,
I am trying to get samba 4 to make a user dir without the use of ADUC to
set the homeDirectory, but with samba-tool user create only.
I created a root preexec but the %U is filled with root and not the
username of the user.
I need to user [users] and not the old [homes] because I got a GPO for
redirection to the //server/users/%USERNAME% and I need this folder to
be created

Samba "%G" replacement not working in "Logon script" ?
Dear all,
I experience now a strange bug with Samba 4.1.11 :
When I define a fixed-name as logon script in smb.conf, it works :
logon script = employee.bat
But if I try either %g.bat or %G.bat, or even "%G.bat", it doesn't work
:
* logon script = %g.bat
* logon script = %G.bat
* logon script = "%G.bat"
In the logs, there was a message showing that Samba was

Bug found in Samba 4 ?
Dear all,
As nobody seems to know what the problem could be, I think it must be an
important bug in Samba 4 that "forget" to replace %G or %g with the
group name.
Could someone confirm that it is a bug and that I should fill one, in
samba bugzilla ?
Thank you very much,
Denis

How do you join a Linux mailserver to a Samba domain?
I'm running Samba 4.1.6, Ubuntu 14.04 with Dovecot, Postfix & SOGo
When I try to connect to the mailserver via Thunderbird, it gives me a
specific error --
Unable to open the summary file for Inbox. Perhaps there was an error on
disc, or the full path is too long.
I've looked at (and reset) file permissions on the local drive where
mail is stored but not the mailserver, and

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
On a Windows domain member client in the ADUC console, you specifiy the
home dir path that is to be used on Windows machines on the "Profile"
tab. As soon as you click 'Ok' (or 'Apply' for that matter), the folder
is created (by the DC via your domain admin account) on the Samba server
hosting the share the path you provided leads to. Try it, its nice an
simple.

How do you join a Linux mailserver to a Samba domain?
SOGo/Openchange is not willing i f it is not holding the fsmo roles. And by
the way in an multiple DC replicating environment you can kill your domain
on the fly even with
a real "Exchange-Server" if you are not carefull enough.
So the only way to make OPenchange live in your domain ist o join it as dc.
And status of development as far as I know this is hard to do.
Or you manage to

Excellent! I've been messing around with GPOs on Windows AD domains for years,
more extensively this past year with Samba4 AD/DC and I absolutely hate them.
In my opinion they are yet another attempt by

I would suppose so, but not on the same machine :-)
Why would you want to though ?
Using the RFC2307 attributes, you will get the same ID number on every
Unix machine, whereas if you

Windows 10 ADUC no properties window
Hi,
Anyone know why I don't get the properties window when I try to create a
new user or view a user's properties. Was working fine last week when I
created 3 or 4 test users. I'm using the same workstation I had installed
RSAT on and created the users with before. Any idea's?

Freebsd pdc
I was just wondering how many people out there are using FreeBSD as a
pdc. I see a few guides on the net mostly followed by a load of posts
of problems people encounter. Is it like most things that once you
have done it once you can soon set up a machine at the drop of hat as
you encounter and remedy any problems. I have a few customers at the
moment one of who requires a pdc with roaming
