Deleting and coalescing live snapshots
All, I have a service that takes new live KVM snapshots Si regularly, keeps a fixed number N (Si ,..,Si-N+1), and therefore needs to delete Si-N in this cycle. Until libvirt includes support for this capability that is said to be available in qemu, what is a safe workflow to delete old live KVM snapshots w/o losing data. Do I need to pause/shut down the VM? The development environment is

Fedora 18 / Rawhide switch over to using libvirt as the back end
Just a note [possibly more of a warning] that I'm intending to switch the default backend in Fedora 18+ to libvirt this week. For more information about what this means, see: https://rwmj.wordpress.com/2012/07/23/new-in-libguestfs-use-libvirt-to-launch-the-appliance/#content Barring any bugs, the change ought to be transparent. The reasons why we're making this change in Fedora are:

Fedora 18 dom0, no video?
Hi all. I''ve got a situation with Fedora 18 on a dual Xeon E5506 box, 16GB RAM, Tyan S7002 motherboard with the latest BIOS. Because of all the issues, I''m starting to think maybe there''s something wrong with the box itself, maybe something strange going on with the BIOS or mobo resources. Although this box was in service without incident for about 2 years prior. I

Why is cpu-to-node mapping different between Xen 4.0.2-rc1-pre and Xen 4.1-unstable?
My system is a dual Xeon E5540 (Nehalem) HP Proliant DL380G6. When switching between Xen 4.0.2-rc1-pre and Xen 4.1-unstable I noticed that the NUMA info as shown by the Xen ''u'' debug-key is different. More specifically, the CPU to node mapping is alternating for 4.0.2 and grouped sequentially for 4.1. This difference affects the allocation (wrt node/socket) of pinned VCPUs to the

Clustered Samba: Every 24 hours "There are Currently No Logon Servers Available"
All, i have this very weird and annoying problem in my clustered setup: every ~24 hours the vista clients cant login, or even unlock there screens anymore. The error they receive is "currently no logon services available" this is very odd, because i have 2 samba 3.5.8 servers available, running and configured to handle login requests. in the mean time the people that are logged in

Defining VM with snapshots?
All, Using Centos 6.4 with provided libvirt: [root@node1 ~]# rpm -q libvirt libvirt-1.0.1-2.el6.x86_64 Assume a VM with one or more live snapshots. In virsh the VM snapshots can be listed. With virsh: - Stop and undefine this VM. - Then define (and start) this VM. The new VM does not have the list of snapshots. Is there a way with virsh to rebuild the metadata such that

Hello I have a 3 node experiment as detailed below to estimate the bridged networking performance in para-virtualized Xen 3.0 on Emulab (https://www.emulab.net/) Here is how the 3-node topology looks (This topology is specified by means of an NS-2 file) topology: _______________________________ | | Node0:eth0 ------|Node1:eth0

Unable to convert vm
I am unable to convert a vm using virt-v2v. From the trace and debug logs I am unable to understand the cause of the problem. I assume it is a permission or configuration issue but I don't know where to start looking. The following command was issued: LIBGUESTFS_TRACE=1 LIBGUESTFS_DEBUG=1 virt-v2v -ic qemu+ssh://xxx at 192.168.xxx.xxx/system -o rhev -os 192.168.xxx.xxx:/mnt/exports -of

[LLVMdev] Crash in PBQP register allocator
Hi Sebastian, It boils down to this: The previous heuristic solver could return infinite cost solutions in some rare cases (despite finite-cost solutions existing). The new solver is still heuristic, but it should always return a finite cost solution if one exists. It does this by avoiding early reduction of infinite spill cost nodes via R1 or R2. To illustrate why the early reductions can be a

brick out of space, unmounted brick
Hello Gluster users, Before I put Gluster into production, I am wondering how it determines whether a byte can be written, and where I should look in the source code to change these behaviors. My experiences are with glusterfs 3.2.4 on CentOS 6 64-bit. Suppose I have a Gluster volume made up of four 1 MB bricks, like this Volume Name: test Type: Distributed-Replicate Status: Started Number of

status of Continuous availability in SMB3
hi Michael Adam: Thanks for you work on samba. Here I am looking for some advice and your help. I have been stuck in continuous availability of samba 4.3.9 for two weeks. Continuous availability in SMB3 is an attractive feature and I am strugling to enable it. smb.conf, ctdb.conf are attached. Cluster file system is cephfs and mount to /CephStorage client: Windows 8 Pro root at node0:~# samba

Tracking logins
Hi, I'm using dovecot-2.1.17 on fc18 and wondered if there is some mechanism, perhaps a database, that can store the logins/logouts for each user? I realize there's something already logged to syslog, but I'd like more of a history. While lastlog is great for users that actually login, my dovecot users don't login, just check email via pop and imap. Any ideas greatly

Release notes appendix for libguestfs 1.20 on Fedora 18
I'm just about to release libguestfs 1.20. This appendix covers issues specific to Fedora 18. Fedora 18 defaults to using the libvirt attach-method, meaning that libvirt is used to create and manage the libguestfs appliance. There are several benefits to this (see the full release notes). You can switch back to the ordinary method (directly running qemu) at any time by doing: export
