machine with 2 ethernet cards e1000 and forcedeth
I am using centos 5 x86_64 AMD64 X2 4200+. I am current on yum update.
My machine has two ethernet cards. e1000 (eth0) and forcedeth (eth1)
[root at fsdsigns2 ~]# more /etc/modprobe.conf
alias eth0 e1000
alias eth1 forcedeth
sometimes on boot the forcedeth driver thinks it is eth0:
[root at fsdsigns2 ~]# dmesg | grep eth
forcedeth.c: Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver. Version 0.60.

nforce 430 MCP61 chipset on centos 4.4
Hello All.
I've got an Asus board with a non-operational nic and sound chip on Centos 4.4.
Anyone know if this is possible to get working on 4.4? I've downloaded 5.0
but it looks like others still have issues* with this chipset.
Thanks.

centos 5 irq issue
I get the following on an AM2 AMD5000+, nvidia gigabyte motherboard.
Irq 169 is the USB.
Anyone know why this is happening? If I install Centos 4.5 I do not get
this.
THanks,
Jerry

MCP61 asus motherboard not work under 4.4
I just received an MCP61 based motherboard from asus.
The install from local cd works. However, the network
does not.
I am attempting to use 2.6.18.1 kernel on the machine.
Indications are it may work.
Come on 5.0, I'm ready for the updated kernel.

Passing audio to DomU
I am having difficulty configuring a DomU running WinXP for audio. My
hardware is as follows:
00:05.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev
a2)
I tried all sorts of settings in my config
soundhw=''snd_hda_intel''
soundhw=''snd''
The domain hangs (runs fine with no sound setting) and I get the following:

DHCP and DomUs: not working
I''m trying to get DHCP working with DomU clients. I don''t want to use
libvirtd. There''s a dhcpd on the machine and it works fine for all clients
in the network, but not for DomUs. If I set a static IP on the DomU all
networking for them is fine, so there''s no general networking problem.
I use the xen 3.2 packages for CentOS on CentOS 5.1.

How to find out values from dhcp query
How can I find out what variables and their values were provided by a
dhcpd server to my client?
I thought perhaps /etc/dhclient-eth1.conf, but that is not the place...

Sorting of passwd/group files
Is there a program on CentOS which will sort my passwd/group etc. files by
username or uid/gid? On Suse I can do this with a sysconfig switch and
Suseconfig, is there something similar on RH-based systems?

First install No Sound
Hi Gang.
I installed CentOS last night and the sound card detection

updating to 5.2 from local repo
This is my first major version update after using a local repo.
It seems that before I can "yum update" I have to fetch the complete new
5.2 base? Is this correct?
When I run yum update it now fails with various strange dependency errors
although all the updates are synced. When I change to using the original
repo file it wants to download many many more and shows a lot of files

Run one-time startup script
I have to change IP numbers across a number of virtual and physical
machines because of network center move. This has to be done before
network startup, of course. I'm thinking about the best method to do this.
Where should I include/init this script? Or would it rather make more
sense to do this on the last shutdown?
Changes largely involve removing old files and putting new files in

So, if it fails to transform (although bigger) the machine hasn't enough
entropy (because it's quite new?)? I'm generating now on the original
machine from last year which is still going on while a second run on one
of the machines where it failed to

years of watching my logs. I presume it failed because

Quation about CentOS 4 xenU kernel
I converted a physical maschine running CentOS 4.6 to a Xen VM on a CentOS
5 host. Almost everything was running when I decided to rsync /lib and
/usr a while later in order to get updated files and get the one or two
non-working programs to work. There are differences because of the xenU
kernel I didn't think about. I forgot to exclude rpm database and
/lib/modules.
Because the synced
